Default FTR OFC tournament! 1st Prize: Play OFC w/ Barry Greenstein

Poker legend Barry Greenstein will be joining FTR for an AMA. He has agreed to play some heads-up OFC using our app during the event.

What better way to find him a worthy opponent than with a good, old-fashioned shootout?

Time for an Open Face Chinese Tournament at FTR!

There is no buy-in, the following prizes will be awarded:

1st Place: Play a game with Barry Greenstein!
On November 9th, during the AMA (starting @ 4:00 PM EDT), Barry will play a round with the winner of this tournament. This can not be re-scheduled.

Here is how it will work:

The games will be played here: http://www.flopturnriver.com/chinese-poker/ (You must be logged into the forum to participate.)

    • Reply to this thread by Sunday, October 27 23:59 ET if you're interested in joining the tournament. You will be added to the list of players.
    • On Monday, October 28, I will reply with the bracket (matches will be created using random.org) and add the tournaments in the lobby. These will be labeled "[R1] Player A v Player B".
    • All matches will be heads up.
    • You will be PM'd your opponent and password for your table.
    • You must contact your opponent to setup when you would like to play your match.
    • All players will have a 48 hour deadline to finish their matches.
    • Failure to complete your match by the deadline will result in a DQ.
    • All matches will last for 20 rounds. Whoever has the highest overall total points at the end of 20 rounds advances to the next round of the tournament.
    • If the final round results in a player getting Fantasy Land, another round will be played. This will repeat until neither player has FL.
    • Single elimination.
    • Upon completion of your match, reply to the thread with the results.
    • Once the first round is done, the next round will be announced and the same 48 hour deadline will be in place. This will continue until there are only 2 players left.
    • The tournament must be finished no later than Thursday, November 7, so I have time to set up the match with Barry Greenstein before the AMA on Saturday, November 9.

Note: In the event of scheduling conflicts, please PM me or post here and let me know the situation and we can try to work something out.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or notice any bugs while playing, use this thread!

Perfect number of players makes an easy bracket w/ no bye's or extra matches for anyone.

I have the bracket made, and as soon as I figure out how to create the tourney tables, I'll be sending PM's and passwords.
  18. #18
I am struggling to be able to send private messages (and I assume receive them as well). It is saying that my account isn't authorized to send PMs?

If Pascal or someone could give me a hand with this, so I can PM my opponent and get a time scheduled ,that would be great.

    Round 1 is started!

I have created tables and sent out passwords to everyone. If you did not receive a PM from me with your password, or if you have any trouble sitting at your tables, please respond ITT.

All round 1 matches must be finalized by no later than 11:59 PM ET on Wednesday, October 30.

I need the following players to please enable PM's for the duration of the tourney so I can send you your passwords, and you can schedule your matches with your opponents.

    sam1FTR
    harring_sean
    OhEfSEAbiscuit

Please PM me to let me know when you have done this. I will supply you with your password as soon as I am able.

Please note that if you do not complete your games in the allotted time, you will be disqualified.

If you have a personal reason for NOT wanting to enable PM's, then it is your responsibility to contact me and let me know a discreet way to send you your passwords.

Excellent. Looks like that worked for now.

I sent Pascal a PM asking him who can help us with this issue, so hopefully we'll have it resolved before round 2.

Cobra, I can play tonight at 6:30 Eastern time (approximately 2 hours from when I am typing this). Does that work for you?
  28. #28
We don't have to play 20 rounds in one night right?

I will be here in about 2 hours from now yeah. Not sure how long I will be on for though, probably around 2 hours or so.

You should be able to stop and restart your games with no problems.

Everyone should know that I didn't limit the tournament matches to 20 rounds. That way, if someone is in Fantasy Land on the final round, you can play another round.

Just pay attention to the round number. If your match goes over 20 rounds unnecessarily, I will use the score after 20 rounds to determine the winner of the match.

    No, No, No.

There was apparently a glitch that ended the match after only 3 rounds. I'm talking to the OFC programmer to try to get the table re-opened.

If any table ends before 20 rounds, let me know.

Same thing happened to mine and Cobra's game, for the record. We were only 4 rounds in, and I just hit fantasyland on the 4th round...

I'm not sure if that was my fault. I may have clicked End Game instead of New Round. My bad.

Your table doesn't say "game ended" in the lobby, it says "round results". Please confirm that both players have clicked the button for the next round.

Furthermore... your table is different than the other tables. It was the 1st one I created and I did it incorrectly... accidentally sitting down at your table. I had to be removed... but your table is set to 20 rounds... none of the other tables are set like that. Hopefully, neither of you will have FL on the final round... 'cause I don't know how it will handle that.

For all the other tables, though.. there is no set number of rounds... which is how I meant to do yours, but I messed up.

So pleases keep me posted as to the status of your match.

Notice that their session ended at 17 rounds...

There was a glitch that closed their table after 3 rounds. At that point, the score was 37 points to KoRnholio, who had hit FL on the first round. In fact, KoRn and I were worried that eberetta1 had rage-quit at that point.

See the first 3 rounds here
and the other 17 rounds here.

    Thanks.
Did you receive the PM I sent you with your password?

We can use this thread to schedule our match. I'll be free tomorrow evening, so it should be fine.

The reason you do not have the permission to send PMs is probably due to your brand new account with no posts yet. This is so that FTR can see that you're not a spammer or a serial troll before we hand out permissions that could be used to pester us. Just keep posting your thoughts and questions in any forums you like, and very soon you'll have all the usual forum permissions.

You might want to make sure you have your tournament match scheduled before you post on other topics... I think there's a limited number of posts per day allowed to new FTR members. It would be unfortunate if you got wrapped up in another dialogue and couldn't schedule your match.

@MadMojoMonkey I want to be sure my table is operating correctly. So far I have set my first five, and my opponent has done nothing. Is this right? Also, is there any insurance against my opponent doing absolutely nothing for the next 36 hours, and then making his next move at 11:59 on Wed. night, thus being the last player to act and somehow disqualifying me? Also, what if this match does not get finished? Or even this hand?

Yes, this is correct. You started before your opponent joined the table, which is fine. It's good practice to send a PM to your opponent to schedule your match, but it wont hurt anything if you sit/play before them.

Send ImSavy a PM and schedule your match.

First, I'd assume that it was a scheduling error. I would allow an extension on your time to accommodate the scheduling issues.

Second, you just made that up about the "last player to act" stuff. That's a terribly unfair rule and I have no intention of being so silly. We'd resolve it with a conversation, and if we were unable to agree on a decision, then I'd make a ruling. That ruling would be as fair to the ideal of tournament competition as I could determine.

I'm fine with checking in 'whenever' to make a move. does that work? or do you need a more specific time?
  50. #50
I really don't want to be playing 20 rounds over a long period. Means I have to constantly be checking to see if you've made a move. We can do that until we agree a time to play it all if you like, but I'd really prefer a time.

I have just received a confirmation email that some issues I was worried about are taken care of.

    1) If the final round of a tournament table is FL, the game will continue until no player is in FL.
    2) It will also extend the match in the event of a tie.

This allows us to remove the 'end game' button from tournament tables. So you should only see a single button at the end of a round when you're playing a tournament. This will prevent any mis-clicks from prematurely closing a tourney table.

When I create the tables for round 2, I will set the limit to 20 rounds (tables are on 'unlimited' rounds right now). This should allow the players a more intuitive interface between rounds when playing a tournament table. Also, it should end the match w/o any glitches.

This change will be evident in round 2.

    @Savy: I am disappoint:
Using your post to insult your opponent is such poor-loser/ bad-sportsmanship that I don't even know where to begin.

I've reviewed the chat. I'm not interested in 'who started it' but Savy, your use of vulgar language seems to me like the turning point where it went beyond a friendly chat. I'm not saying it's wrong to use such language... but context is everything and Puppymint is new here and not familiar with your ascerbic nature... meaning he has less context to see that statement as a friendly jab (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, here).

I don't think he was accusing you of cheating. If anything, shooting an angle, maybe... but not cheating.

As it played out, you were both rather insulting to each other, which I'd just as soon DQ you both for taking a friendly game too far. However, I don't want to set a precedent of over-modding the event, either. Furthermore, this chat log is borderline, and while I don't think it's in the spirit of the event, I don't think it's clearly overboard as pertains to character attacks.

Consider it a lesson. Tone does not transfer well over chat.

    A message for everyone:
PLEASE KEEP ALL CHAT FAMILY FRIENDLY IN THE TOURNAMENT.

I reserve the right to disqualify anyone who uses the in-game chat to flame their opponent.

harring_sean whooped me in the match.

    Check it out here.

It was a great match... we were tied repeatedly in the match, as late as round 13.

On the final hand, we both laid 4-flushes in hearts on the bottom... and we both got there.

Here's the match between sam1FTR and Cobra_1878. Wow... 62 point victory for sam1!

I think some of the drama between ImSavy and Puppymint could have been avoided if we used the timer for this tournament. It is something we are testing in development but it hasn't yet made its way into the live version of the game.

Players get 2 minutes to set all 13 cards per game. People typically take about 20 seconds for the first 5 and about 10 seconds for each of the remaining 8 cards such that they use about 1:40 of 2:00 and have about 20 seconds to spare. If a player runs out of time then it is a foul.

Under the timer format people don't have a lot of extra time to chat which would have been a good thing for this particular match.

But what about emergencies, like with me today. That would have a crappy reason to foul.

I am withdrawing from the competition. I would like a crack at Barry but I refuse to be lambasted publicly in the forum as I was, seemingly without consequences. I will also be leaving FTR. I certainly have nothing to prove in my OFC game.

I appreciate the effort of the owners of the site, who invited me to become a part of this community. That is why I was here. Good luck with your OFC, some of this looks very promising. Maybe think about the company you keep.

I'd very much like to discuss this in PM's, Puppymint.

Not quite sure everyone appreciates the restraint I exercised to not reply to that post. I still can't get over being called a cheat about something I made the guy aware of early on in the guy aware of early on in the game. That's what annoyed me.

I would also like to point out that my post was the 'nice' version.

Seems savy was making a genuine attempt to be nice and to help out if it was your first few times playing...... he was told he was just being "played with" first..... so what he didn't hear of your website.... this was all in fun, and a great idea from ftr.... there are other golden club members here to.... makes non sense how this all ended the way it has when its to be a game of fun...... seems like people playing the lawyer game over a poker forum...
