Despite August traditionally being the slowest month in online poker with many people preferring the outdoors to a good old poker game, this weekend saw an unexpected spike in attendance at the biggest tournament at PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. Perhaps this has something to do with the FTOPS series kicking off, but who knows.

As always Sundays begin with the Sunday Warm – Up and this time the prize pool skyrocketed to $616,200. With no deals being made UK’s “luetch1” took down the first place prize of $96,745.31. “luetch1” is an accomplished poker pro with more than $2m in cashes over his career.

With more than double the players and the prize pool, next in line was the Sunday Million and the last two remaining players struck a deal, the better part of which went to German player “goodvibe1” who held a commanding chip lead and got $205,751.97 out of the deal. On the other end of the deal was Iranian player “Farzinem” who received $162,051.39 for his efforts. Eventually the German easily cruised to victory, overcoming a total of 7063 players.

The Sunday 500 saw almost 800 players enter the race for one of the biggest payouts of the weekend and this time it was “jmc2536” from Macao who got the better of them all, finishing off the tournament with a straight out win for $71,820.00.
Meanwhile, on Full Tilt Poker the first FTOPS events kicked off. In FTOPS Event #1, 3503 players showed up creating a huge $700,600 prize pool. After a long fought battle, UK pro “kid_bramm” emerged victorious. No deals have been made at the final table, leaving “kid_bramm” with just as much as he had hoped for – $129,611.00.

In FTOPS Event #2 the turnout was not as big as almost 1000 players showed up. Eventually when play got down to heads up, it was Argentinian “mendezoo” who had a small chip lead over his opponent from the Netherlands “broskyprosky”. “mendezoo” got $47,541.83 out of the deal and “broskyprosky” got $45,021.13. Despite this “broskyprosky” managed to turn the tide his way and ended up winning his first FTOPS event!
