While the biggest news of the week might be PokerStars potential purchase of FullTilt Poker, there was still plenty of action on the felt, as Sunday tournaments continue to be on the rise. Taking the headlines this weekend was the start of Party Poker’s annual PokerFest, a tournament series featuring high buy-in events.  PokerFest started on Sunday and will run for two weeks, until May 6th. There will be over $3,500,000 in guaranteed prize pools, as well as a $1,000,000 Main Event to close the series. There are also jackpots, iPods, and WSOP tickets up for grabs.  Players can qualify for events for as little as $1 through Party Poker’s satellite system.

Elsewhere, iPoker and Bwin’s biggest Sunday events continue to flirt with their guarantees. It seems once in a while there will not be enough entrants to match the guarantee, creating some nice overlay for those who did enter. This was the case for Bwin’s weekly quarter-million dollar guaranteed championship, which fell short of the $250k prize pool mark for one of the few times in 2012.  One site that never seems to have this problem is PokerStars. In fact, Stars has been raising their guarantees as of late to accommodate more player traffic.  What might boost their traffic even more is the purchase of former online poker giant FullTilt. After FTP was unable to pay-back their customers last year, their license was revoked. Since then, there have been plenty of groups rumored to have purchased the site. Until now, none of them seemed all that logical. However, reports came out today that PokerStars might be buying the former world’s #2 online poker network.  This could be great news for tournament players as it would mean the return of the Sunday Brawl and the Sunday $750k, two huge online poker events. Stay tuned to the FTR News Section for any breaking news on FullTilt Poker.
