This past weekend marked another milestone for online poker tournaments. For the first time since Black Friday, PokerStars upped the guarantee in a large amount of their Sunday events, including the Sunday500. To celebrate, PokerStars ran two tournaments for each one of their majors, resulting in huge numbers of entries and prize pool amounts across the board. The two PokerStars Sunday Million tournaments combined surpassed 13,000 players and $2,700,000 in prizes pools. While the first Million was chopped between five players, the 2nd running crowned a true champion, “KJulius10”, who earned a nice $177,391 after defeating “weygang” heads-up.
Even the non-PokerStars events saw major success, as both the $200k on Party Poker and $250k on Bwin easily surpassed their guarantees. It seems online poker tournaments are certainly on the upswing, and with potentially big news coming on the American legislation front, could grow past levels never before seen.
