Poker Hall of Fame Announces Nominations for 2013

The names of ten players on this years’ Poker Hall of Fame ballots have been released. In existence since 1979, and founded by the legendary Benny Binion to market his Horseshoe Casino, the Poker Hall of Fame is there to preserve the names and legacies of the world’s greatest poker players and is considered one of the greatest honors in poker.

The membership that includes 44 people is currently handled by the WSOP. The list of players who have been elected to this prestigious club over the years include the stalwarts of poker of the likes of Doyle Brunson, Benny Binion himself, Stu Ungart, Johnny Chan, and Phil Hellmuth. Some other famous pros, such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Tom Dwan, have been nominated by popular vote in years past but cannot yet get on the list due to the age restriction of 40 years.

Other criteria for consideration include playing against acknowledged top competition, playing for high stakes, and playing consistently well to earn respect of peers and stand the test of time.

The ten poker personalities vying for the induction from the class of 2013 are: Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, David Chiu, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Tom McEvoy, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen and Huckleberry Seed.

The winner- or winners – will be decided in the voting process among the 19 living current Hall of Fame members and an 18-person media panel. The outcome of the voting will be announced by the WSOP Governing Council by October 11. The ceremony of induction will take place during the WSOP Main Event final table festivities on November 3 at the Rio in Las Vegas.
