In a display of complete domination and run good, Swedish poker pro Isildur1 crushed Rui Cao in SuperStar Showdown 10, winning $150,000 over 2,257 hands. After two months without a PokerStars SuperStar Showdown 10 was certainly one to remember.
In the biggest pot of the night, Blom four bet preflop to $2,700 with Kc Jh 9c 6h, Cao called with Ac Qd Tc 9h. The money went all in on the turn of 8c 7c 5s Qs with Blom’s nut straight holding to win a $67,700 pot. For the duration of match Blom kept getting there, winning most of the PLO all-ins. As one of the most aggressive players in the game, and as we’ve seen many times before, when Isildur1 runs well, he’s virtually unstoppable.
To take nothing away from Rui Cao, the Frenchman is still one of the top nosebleed players in the world, but Sunday was Isildur’s day. Isildur won approximately $140,000 at $50/$100 PLO and approximately $10,000 at No-Limit Hold’em. Hat’s off the Isildur, out of 10 SuperStar Showdowns, this is only the second time anyone has been able to to win the full escrowed $150,000 bankroll, the first time being, when Isildur beat Daniel Negreanu for $150,000 back on March 20th.
This heads up match between Blom and Rui Cao was over six months in the making, Rui Cao, one of the hottest players in the game today, had wanted this match to happen since way back in December of 2010. Cao got the action he desired in this big loss, but this is certainly not the last we will hear from Rui Cao. Cao has had massive winning sessions online this year, including some against Isildur1 outside of the challenge.
The win brings Isildur1’s overall record to 8-2, with his only unavenged loss being to Ike Haxton. This record is rightly impressive, with only 2,500 hands per showdown, there is a lot of variance involved, throughout all the top competition, Blom has proved time and time again that he is one of the top No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Hold’em head’s up players in the world. No word yet on who the next SuperStar Showdown challenger will be, but whoever it is, it promises to be an exciting match!
