After an extremely poor showing last week, PokerStars managed a huge comeback this Sunday, crushing guarantees in their five biggest tournaments. The Sunday Million saw a huge rebound, with nearly 9,000 players joining the weekend’s largest tournament. With the WCOOP starting in a few days, let’s hope the tournaments keep getting bigger and better!

First up was the Sunday Warm-Up Final Table which was graced by well-known tournament professional “apestyles” whose 3rd place finish for $67,650 was his biggest and 10th $20k+ score of his career. He’s made four other major final tables including a 5th in the Million in March ($57k) and 6th in FTOPS #17 ($34k) this past May. Taking home the title was “CuCbKu” who until yesterday did not have a $10,000+ score to his name, in fact his biggest cash was a 13th place finish in this very event in July.

2. Jarfish $95,940

The Sunday Million drew a huge crowd, and created a prize pool of nearly $1,800,000. First place was slated to receive over $250,000, that was until the final five players decided to chop after Gbror780 busted in 6th place for just under $54,000. Steve “Gboro” Gross is arguably the best online tournament player in the world, and he was on a fast track to win the tournament until his AK was outflopped by AQ for a t20,000,000 pot. The $50k+ score was the 4th of his career, way behind his win in FTOPS#10 for over $275,000 and taking 2nd in the $1M on FullTilt for $126,000. Gross also finished 2nd in a SCOOP event earlier this year for $128,000 which helped bring his career earning to over $3,000,000. After the five-way chop “angiebug4”, who took the smallest amount, dominated the field to scoop the additional $30,000. Even with the side-money, he was only the 4th highest earner in the event, potentially costing himself over $100,000 because of the chop. Below are the final-table stacks, bust-out hands, and chop-adjusted pay-outs:

Another well-known player was present at the Sunday500 final table in the form of “rivermanl”. After an epic battle with “faithless” in which the chip-lead swung back and forth multiple times, rivermanl was able to take down the title and over $88,000. This was his 2nd biggest score of his career, well behind the $137,000 he earned for winning FTOPS Event #8 last November. This was also his 4th major victory, having also won the Second Chance and $215r on PokerStars within the past 12 months. Thayer “THAY3R” Rasumssen, a top-100 ranked professional, made the final table and busted in 6th place for just over $20,000.

One major where cash-game players seem to shine in the $215r on PokerStars. The re-buy and add-on structure allows for much deeper stack play than normal freeze-outs, which can give an edge to those used to playing with 100BB’s or more. “Brianm15” was just another high-stakes cash game professional who was able to outlast a strong field and take down the title, winning over $41,000 in the process. This was the biggest non-SCOOP score of his career, having reached the final table of the Main Event last year (taking 8th for $100,000). At the cash-game tables, Brianm15 is up nearly $300,000 on PokerStars alone within the past 12 months. Other well known professionals “YanniYankiev” and “Wretchy” reached the final table but busted early, finishing in 8th and 9th place respectively.

FullTilt continues to build off the success of August’s FTOPS XIII which set many tournament records. The Sunday Brawl got the day going with nearly 2,400 entrants creating a $478,800 prize pool. A few big names reached the final table including Bryn “OneUponAStar” Kenney, a high-stakes tournament and cash game professional who has been seen battling with the best players in the world at the highest stakes on FullTilt in both NL and PLO. Kenney wasn’t the only professional playing the Brawl, as 22 of FullTilt’s very own sponsored pros played including Lee Watkinson, John Phan, and Marco Liesy. In the end “PoutsoKefalos” outlasted “Jims619” for the title and nearly $98,000. This was his first recorded score over $10,000 on FullTilt and his 1st major final table.
