SCOOP event 21-L can easily be cataloged as a who’s who in online HU play. 1550 of the very best players online duked it out in this HU shootout tournament. The field was large, but this was definitely not an indication of an easy ride for tough players within. Instead, wherever they turned there was another tough player licking his/her chops for a chance at decapitating (poker-wise) the opponent, executioner style.
Every single player in this event had some sort of accolades to show for; there were almost no fish at all in such a huge turnout, which is pretty much unprecedented.

HU: The stage was set for the final table. Of the huge 1500-strong field, only two gladiators remained. Because this was a shootout event, both players would start out the final table with exactly the same amount of chips, so it was basically all for grabs. He took home $96,000 for his efforts tonight. Event 21-H is one of those crazy high buy-in online events in which the buy-in is actually 5 figures. That is $25,000 + $500. OMG I have never seen such a big buy-in online. This is probably some sort of a record.
The thing is, with such a big buy-in, only the crème de la crème, the who’s who, the flowers of the flock, the picks of the bunchcrop, the bluest blooded poker players online in the world at the moment show up. The thing is, you will not have a single fish in here, not one single dead money participant. These are all seasoned vets. These guys know how to play.
The total field counted just 32 players, who have the roll for this kind of event. Since the field was small, and they were all superstars, I will tell you exactly who participated tonight. The list contained Daniel “KidPoker” Negreanu, Apathy123, gunning4you, supernova9, get crunk, TBFB, Jovial Gent, Genius28, tjbentham, str8flushin5, Dario Minieri, Zugwat, Sifosis, ScHnibl0r, PeteEastgate, zangbezan24, SixthSenSe19, Andrew “good2cu” Robl, lftarii, steamraise, RunThisTable, philivey2694, takechip, skilled_sox, James “Andy McLEOD” Obst, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, CADX2, MrSmokey1, mistakooll, toweliestar, Dokosoko and John Duthie.
As you can see, these are all seasoned vets and poker phenoms, the ‘Nova Elite’s and the Live Pros. This is serious business.
The game, as already mentioned, had a $25,500 buy-in, but the field paid out only 4. This is standard since the field was only 32 deep to begin with. The winner of the night would go home with a cool $360,000.

3rd: ‘Dokosoko’ vs John Duthie turned out to be an extremely interesting matchup. The chiplead went back and forth for many many times, but John Duthie at times seemed unwilling to bluff in the right spots and was always folding marginal hands when ‘Dokosoko’ came back over the top. It was a pretty tough match, and us as observers cannot really truly know all of the metagame that went on here. It’s particularly true for Heads-Up matches, and really true for tough matches like this one.
The blinds did start to creep up though, very nastily.

HU: As soon as the final table started, the guys asked for pausing of the tournament to discuss chopping. As it was explained to them, they would split the $560,000 in prize money on the table between them and only have to leave 16K for the winner. Toweliestar decided to play for 60K and chop the rest, and John Duthie agreed, therefore both players went home with $250,000 and would play for the remaining $60K.
$250,000 guaranteed, now that is a position every single poker player wants to be in!
Again, chips in the players’ stacks were like a perfect sine graphic on both sides, but eventually ‘toweliestar’ would get to a 5:1 chip advantage over Team PokerStars Pro John Duthie. The final hand went down like this:
