An astounding 200,000 people helped Pokerstars.com, the world’s largest poker site, to make history on Sunday December 4th by participating in the largest poker tournament ever. This event was part of Pokerstars’ ongoing 10th Anniversary celebrations. The previous record, held by Pokerstars, was set in 2009 when 149,196 players participated in a $1 buy-in event.

Pokerstars put up an extra $50,000 towards the prize pool to make it an even quarter million. The turbo tournament ended just 7 hours in with “sokoluk1991” from Russia walking away with the top prize. He netted just over $40,000. As part of the deal between the final three players, the 2nd and 3rd place finishers also cashed for at least $25,000 apiece. Not bad for a $1 buy-in!

The tournament brought together players from all over the world, a diverse mix of different languages, races and creeds. Unlike other sports and games, only poker allows players to play alongside the professionals, with a good chance to beat them and win large sums of money. This is what makes poker so great and special. Pokerstars hopes that this new record will help raise awareness and aide the future of this game that we all love.

Pokerstars continues their 10th Anniversary celebration for the rest of the month with more huge money guaranteed tournaments and prize giveaways. The Sunday Million on December 18th will have a massive $10 Million guaranteed prize pool, while the $11 buy-in Sunday Storm special on December 11th will have $1 Million guaranteed.
