Occasionally after one of my girlfriend’s episodes different parts of her personality will be brought to the forefront than others for a short (15 minutes to 6 hours) period of time. Some of these parts come out so often that they have names. Here is a list of the ones I’ve seen so far:

Michelle – Normal Michelle. The only girl I’ve seriously considered marrying since I’ve been a legal adult.

“Little Michelle” – The first one that happened. Seems to act around age 8-10. Has slurred speech and prefers her left hand (even for writing). Obsessed with cats. By far the most common.

“Mean Michelle” – Tries to hurt herself. Michelle talks about this one in the 3rd person, and this talks in the 3rd person about Michelle. Tries to intimidate me. I have to physically restrain this one. After this one started showing up, Michelle had about a one week vacation in the hospital while they adjusted some of her meds. Haven’t seen this one since. One strange part about this is that “Little Michelle” mentioned “Mean Michelle” once about 6 months before I ever saw her.

“OCD Michelle” – If you’ve ever seen Jack Nicholson in the movie “As Good As It Gets” then you know exactly what Michelle looks like in this phase except she’s a lot sweeter. I’ve only seen it once, and that was tonight, and was what inspired me to write this. This is extreme, genuine OCD. She tried to force herself to touch a doorknob and started to have a panic attack that turned into a grand mal seizure.

And the other fun part is it’s not a multiple personality disorder. They aren’t varied identities (despite “Mean Michelle” being referred to in the third person), but instead her anxiety forces her to act out certain events in different ways. I might type up some good stories about this later, but for now I just had to get some of this off of my chest.
