Tuesday featured FTOPS VII Event #10, which was one of the most sought after events of the series. The buy in was $1060, the highest in FTOPS VII so far, and had a guaranteed prize pool of one million dollars. Yes, you heard me right, one million dollars. But apparently, one million wasn’t good enough. When registration closed at 9:00 ET, the prize pool had reached over 1.6 million dollars. That means first place would be taking home just under $330,000; life changing money, indeed. The top 204 players would be paid, with the lowest possible payout being $1,484.10.
The cream of the Full Tilt professional crop came out for this event. Phil Ivey, Allen Cunningham, Former WSOP Main Event winner Huckleberry Seed, and David Benyamine just to name a few. Erick Lindgren, who was the winner of Event #9, came out to win an unprecedented two events in a row. Yet, none of them faired better than 570th place, not even close to the money. However, Brad Booth and Stefan Rapp did well, placing 65th and 60th respectively, for the same payout of $3,298.
The top online professionals in the world came out for this event as well. Top two MTT players (pocketfives.com) m8kingmoves and mr. menlo both entered but neither made the money. Top cash game professional pr1nnyraid played as well, but also did not make the money. Of the professionals that faired well, Tmay420 (13th ranked MTT player by pocketfives.com) and Roothlus (93rd ranked) received 21st and 25th respectively, both earning around $9,000. 70th ranked player RandALLin received 13th place. Afterwards he commented that 13th place, which was just missing the final table, was “brutal.”FTRer’s were present in this event as well. Sauce123, Massimo, and Johnny_fish all played, but none cashed.
When jcada99, who won the Sunday 750k guaranteed on Full Tilt a month earlier, was knocked out in 10th for just under $22,000, we had our final table.
The final table was full of experience to say the least. Corey “muchaka” Cheresnick had top 5 finishes in a WPT and WSOP event, and had a solid chip stack. GhettoFabolous (88th ranked MTT player by pocketfives.com) had won Super Tuesday on Poker Stars last year for just over $80,000. Drewkamm and TK420 US were experienced high stakes cash game players who had some tournament success as well. And Moscowflyer was a high stakes Omaha regular. It looked like with 6 professionals at the final table, the other 3 would have no shot.
However, we were down to five in the first forty minutes, and after an hour we were down to our last two. But surprisingly, we ended up with a player named gautchos and a player named fish_lovr heads up for 1st place and nearly $330,000. Gautchos had a 4 to 1 chip lead on fish_lovr when it all started. It wasn’t too long we saw fish_lovr all in twice for his tourney life, and it was finally all over.
