Another Sunday or major tournaments is in the books, and with it, another weekend of massive prize pools and huge first place payouts. Tournament attendance was again up across the board, with sites like Party Poker and PokerStars benefiting the most from another stellar weekend. Last week, PokerStars took it upon themselves to up the ante so to speak, as they increased a lot of the guarantees on their weekend events. They’ll take that one step further next weekend, as the $55 Red Spade Open will carry an enormous $1,000,000 prize pool. This means PokerStars expects at least 20,000 players in the mid-stakes event which takes place on Sunday, February 26th.
The rest of the online poker world continues to thrive as well. Tournaments on sites like BWin and the iPoker Network are also consistently passing their guarantees. At this rate, it might just be a matter of time before tournament levels surge past their pre-Black Friday levels. Even better, with US legislation on the horizon, a second poker boom could be on the way shortly.
