Could RaiseOnce Be Phil Ivey?

With the Halloween weekend rapidly approaching, it seems as though one of poker's biggest names may be playing in costume. The player in question is “raiseonce”, who has become a frequent fixture at the nosebleed tables over at PokerStars. After appearing sometime during 2009, the mystery man has made a name for himself with a hard-driving, aggressive style. This, combined with several other factors, has led many online wizards to predict that raiseonce is, in fact, Full Tilt pro Phil Ivey.

Negreanu Draws Fire at WCOOP Final Table

Once embraced as one of the most likeable characters in the game, Daniel Negranu has drawn a sizable amount of heat over the past several months. From his criticism of Ultimate Bet to his well-publicized slur toward Annie Duke, Kid Poker has found himself in the limelight a bit more often than he and his employers would like, perhaps. Now, it seems, he's given detractors more fuel for their hate machine.

Duke Fires Back at Negreanu

For those who may not have been paying attention, a somewhat bitter conflict has arisen between two of the game's biggest names. In a recent interview (parts of which were thought to be “off the record”), Team PokerStars member Daniel Negreanu blasted away at top female pro Annie Duke, labeling her as a “fucking cunt.”

WSOP Notes: Men in Drag and Lifetime Bans

Outside of Men Nguyen's win and the handful of first time bracelet winners, there have been very few big stories. There is, of course, the player who was banned for sweeping in a tablemate's chips. And there's also the news that players caught smoking marijuana in the Rio parking lot will receive a lifetime WSOP ban.

Quick Hits: Laak nears world record, Bracelet talk, and others

It's been a slow couple days in the poker world, outside of the always exciting WSOP. Most of the online giants are holding off on the big promotions, spending their money instead on lucrative sponsorship and advertising deals. While this is great for the visibility of the game, it sure does make for some boring online play. But as we say in poker, there's always another game. There are plenty of interesting news nuggets to find, if your ears are open and your reads are sharp. With that in mind, here is a brief rundown of the latest info from the digital and tangible felt...

Phil Ivey Punched Out in Ivey Room Opening

Sometimes, no matter how much preparation and anticipation go into an event, things don't work out the way we plan. Such was the case with the opening of Phil Ivey's poker room, hosted by the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The initial event, a $1,000,000 Freeroll was attended by some of the biggest names in the game. Chino Rheem, a member of the 2008 WSOP's Main Event Final Table, took home an extra $100,000 bounty for taking out Ivey.

Strike Three for Clonie Gowen: Full Tilt Lawsuit Denied

Clonie Gowen has been denied for the third and final time, effectively ending her bid to capture a 1% stake in Full Tilt Poker and its partner companies. U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Jones ruled last week that, no matter what may have taken place at the now-infamous Golden Nugget meeting between Gowen and the members of the Full Tilt brass, the company owes no additional compensation to the plaintiff.

Full Tilt Fires Back at Gowen

Chapter Two of the Clonie Gowen vs. Full Tilt saga could be even uglier than the first. The online poker giant has launched a return volley straight for the heart of their former representative. Gowen, who filed suit in November of 2008 after she was released from her contract, claims that she was offered a 1% stake in the company. If this were true, she would be entitled to a return of approximately $40 million. Full Tilt has added a lawsuit of their own to the mix, requesting that Gowen make a statement in which she disavows her claim of owning any stake in the company.
