FTR1000 The Winning Poker US Yes

Recently, the United States Department of Justice brought an indictment against the three largest poker sites in the online poker industry, charging PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker with charging bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling. Because of this incident, which became known as “Black Friday”, these three sites have barred players from the United States from playing for real money.

The indictment has left players wondering what the future will hold for online poker. People across the country lost a way of making income and have money locked up in these poker sites, as they decided to stop deposits and withdrawals, as well. Fortunately, a statement was released saying these poker sites would allow players to cash out and PokerStars has already allowed US players to begin withdrawing their money. This only solves one of the problems US poker players are currently facing, though.

Currently, no one knows what it going to happen to online poker. The industry rebounded well after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, but that is no indication of what will happen to poker today after the current indictments. One possibility is state-by-state regulation of online poker in the United States. If this possibility were to become a reality, South Dakota online poker could be in the works.

At the current moment, South Dakota online poker is legal for most residents. The law states: “No person engaged in a gambling business may use the internet or an interactive computer service to bet or wager.” This means if you are not involved in running one of the states brick and mortar casino and poker card rooms, you can play online poker. In a state-by-state regulated system, South Dakota online poker would allow players to play in either a free market or an intrastate structure. Some of South Dakota’s existing brick and mortar casinos could market an online card room to increase revenue for their company and the state.

Of course, South Dakota online poker is just speculation at the moment. Only time will tell what will be in store for online poker. This is just one of the more hopeful paths that could be taken.
