FTR1000 The Winning Poker US Yes

As many poker players know, the three biggest online poker rooms in the business, PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker, had an indictment brought against them by the US Department of Justice. Charges of bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling were brought against the big three. Subsequently, these poker sites barred US-based players from playing for real money on their sites. This event, which was dubbed "Black Friday", has caused uncertainty throughout the online community.

The uncertainty throughout the community is about the future of online poker. Players were unable to access their money after the three sites barred deposits and withdrawals. Recently, PokerStars began allowing players to withdraw their money and a statement was released stating Full Tilt would eventually allow withdrawals, as well. This only helps with a small part of the problem Black Friday has caused, though.

Even though online poker rebounded nicely after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, the future is very unclear at this moment. While poker players are hoping it will make the same type of rebound, there is no guarantee of that. There are many different possibilities for the future of online poker and state regulation is one of many. If this happens, Rhode Island online poker is a distinct possibility.

Currently, there are no laws against Rhode Island online poker. While the state has no brick and mortar card rooms, it has been silent on the issue of online poker. Many players from the state travel to Foxwoods or other close by brick and mortar casinos to play poker. If Rhode Island online poker became regulated, it could bring in more revenue for the state, as well as help these casinos from out of state dipt their toe in the water of online poker.

While the future of online poker is very uncertain, Rhode Island online poker is one of many different outcomes. Only time will tell, though, and the online poker community will be waiting on bated breath to find the answer.
