Iowa's proposed intra-state poker legislation is stuck in traffic. After clearing the state's senate last Tuesday, the bill has failed to make the docket in the House of Representatives.

Politicians in Iowa have taken a major step toward legalizing online poker. Earlier this week, the state's Democrat-controlled senate approved a measure which would legalize an intra-state version of the game, carrying the day with a vote of 29-20.

The recent indictment of the owners of Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars and Absolute Poker have mucked up online poker for the United States. On April 15, 2011, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an incidment against the three largest online poker sites, charging them with bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling. Because of this, these three sites have barred U.S. based players from playing.
These legal issues have players worrying about what the future holds for online poker. Before the indictment, online poker was becoming more and more popular. Because of this, a large number of players, both pros and casual players alike, have been affected.
At the present time, no one knows what will become of online poker in the United States. Online poker showed its resilience after bouncing back from the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006, but that is not an indication of the future after this indictment. There are numerous possibilities for online poker, though. One of these possibilities is state-by-state regulation.
Iowa online poker would be one of the possibilities if this occured. Iowa currently has brick and mortar poker rooms on river boats and on Native American reservations. They also had a proposed Iowa online poker bill called File 458 but it was later yanked from the Ways & Means Committee schedule before it could come up for a vote. If state-by-state legistation of online poker occurs, these card rooms could open Iowa online poker sites of their own, generating money for their casinos and the state.
These current legal issues have definitely caused worries about the future of online poker. Iowa online poker is one of many probabilities for the future.
