California Online Poker Bill Hits a Snag
In an unexpected turn of events, California Senate Bill 1463 was pulled from today’s meeting agenda. This bill would legalize and regular online poker within the state of California. It was expected to be voted on in the Senate Governmental Organization Committee today. Senator Rod Wright, chairman of the committee and one of the introducers of this bill was the one who made the call on removing the current iteration of the bill this morning. At this point we can only speculate on the ... [continued]

On June 12th there will be some additional changes to California’s online poker bill SB1463. The main change will require that license applicants must currently operate a brick and mortar card room or casino that offers poker. Other changes include reducing the duration of the online poker license from ten years to five, as well as removing a provision which could have allowed other casino games to be offered by operators after two years of being licensed. The fee for a five year online ... [continued]

There has been a lot of recent talk about online poker in California becoming regulated. Unfortunately, at this time that seems to be more of a dream than a reality. The deadline to hear such issues in 2011 is September 9th, and as that date grows nearer, it seems these discussions will have to be picked up in 2012. According to California State Senator Darrell Steinberg, "online gambling legislation isn't going to go away". However, at this time it appears the state is not prepared to hear about the subject.

Things look good for 2012. As more and more information is brought to the forefront about internet poker's profitability, states like California might be inclined to allow online gambling legislation. Not only will this bring more revenues for cash-strapped states, but it will allow their residents to freely gamble from the comforts of their own homes. Between now and 2012, online poker players are being asked to contact their representatives, requesting they take this gambling legislation seriously.

Everything has seemed to turn chaotic ever since April 15th, or better known as "Black Friday". It was this day that three of the internet's biggest poker site's domains were seized by the F.B.I. and left its players in complete shock. Since that Friday, U.S. players are still unable to withdrawal their money from these sites while (most of) the other users can. Actual play has also continued for non-U.S. players at these sites as well.

On the plus side, some other poker sites are now opening up their real money play to U.S. members which seems fantastic for all parties involved. This would be a great temporary solution. However, a lot of players are optimistically hoping that poker will officially become legal in the U.S. but no one knows what the future holds. Right now it seems as if the best hope for this is for each state to have their own laws about this. One intriguing topic would be California online poker.

California online poker is an interesting idea for multiple reasons. It has the biggest population in the country and these aren't just typical citizens; a good amount are celebrities or very rich businessmen. This means that more people are capable of gambling for big bucks.

Gambling in California is mainly done by the Native Americans in the state. Of the 109 tribes located in California, over half (57) actually operate 58 total casinos. This can be seen as an actual obstacle as these tribes are affected heavily if a bill should pass. They'll need to get a fair share of the money from California online poker or else major controversy could ensue.

Overall, California has been trying to regulate online poker via several bills in the state legislature earlier this year. Unfortunately, all of their attempts have seen to just been ignored or denied. It is important to note that nothing is set in stone but will be interesting to see what happens because it would seem like California online poker is and would be one the biggest in America. Who knows, maybe one of these proposed bills will actually pass.
