NUTS: Smart Live Poker offers five different deposit bonuses to ensure all players are happy. Smart Live Poker customers will be playing on the Ongame Network, currently the fifth largest in the world, so there will always be a game running. Finally, even if you are an average tournament player, Smart Live's tournaments are very soft.
-
BEATS: Smart Live, and every other room on the Ongame Network, prohibits US players from playing at their room. Also, at least some players have troubles adjusting to the software.

Smart Live Poker Room Review

Smart Live Poker Overview
Smart Live Poker is fairly new to the world of online poker and, although they may not yet be a well known brand, they are doing a good job of carving out their own unique niche on the immensely popular Ongame network. Smart Live Poker is based in the United Kingdom and is registered as a company in England and Wales. They are operated by the Smart Gaming Group and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.
The software comes courtesy of Ongame, a Bwin owned poker network with a rich history in this young industry. They have been providing top class online poker software to a range of clients for a number of years and have continued this proud tradition with their latest piece of work for Smart Live Poker. Unlike almost any other online poker client, you can access Smart Live Poker via your TV. UK residents can navigate to Sky channel 869 or Freeview channel 22 and punish fish from the comfort of their own living room.
As far as the different varieties of poker are concerned, all the bases are covered at Smart Live Poker. No Limit Hold ‘em, Limit Hold ‘em, Pot Limit Hold ‘em, Pot Limit Omaha, Limit Omaha, Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, Pot Limit 5 Card Draw, Limit 5 Card Draw, 7 Card Stud, and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo can all be accessed immediately on Smart Live Poker. Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of people are found in the low stakes No Limit Hold ‘em cash games. These various rooms are packed with willing players all looking to grind out a profit or blow off a little steam. However, unlike many other online poker networks, the action does not drop off as soon as you venture in the upper areas of Mid-Stakes. There are full tables running up to $25/$50 all day round. All but the richest players will be able to find a game for their level with ease.
Sit & Go tournaments also fair very well on Smart Live Poker. Just $0.50 will get you in on the action, while high rollers can test themselves for as much as $500. As with cash, S&G players are to be found on the cheaper tables, but there’s still a better-than-average spread of games at different stakes. Even during off-peak hours, we saw a number of $215 STTs running. MTTs don’t fare quite as well as cash or S&G, but there are still plenty of big money tournaments to enjoy. Smart Live Poker runs a weekly $25k Highroller guarantee, as well as daily $20k and $12k tournaments. You can’t move without running into one of the regular small guarantees that run multiple times every 24 hours. From $1k to $10k, there are a whole host of different value added contests. The jewel in the crown of the Ongame network is the monthly Champion Chip tournament. Logging in through Smart Live Poker is a great way to access this $250,000 guarantee event.
Smart Live Poker Software Interface/Usability
Although there are a few jagged edges, in general the Smart Live Poker client is a very smooth piece of machinery. Everything runs neat and clean and a muted green color scheme compliments the action well. One problem for older computers will be the amount of RAM the client uses. Running one or two tables should be fine, but lower-memory machines might struggle if you attempt some serious multi-tabling.
Navigating to your game of choice is a very easy process. Simply click on the large button for whichever of Cash, Sit & Go, MTT, Play Money, or Cashier you are after. You can then use drop down boxes to filter your game limit type, buy-in range, and tournament type. Small tabs will then allow you to flip between the various different poker games. Most of the window is taken up by the table list, which is a refreshing change from the sites which like to cram in hundreds of extra trinkets, to the detriment of the table list real estate.
The tables run a similarly smooth operation, with animations, cards, and chips that are all easy to take in at a glance. All of the tables can be dragged and resized to a shape of your choosing. This is great for multi-tablers who like to cram multiple tables onto the same screen. To avoid having to squeeze and expand every table window, you can click a hand tile button that will auto-size each window to take up an equal amount of space. Every time you open a table window, it has a large chatbox wing attached, but this can be retracted at the click of a button. Actually playing a hand of poker is also a breeze. The bet-slider should be familiar to anyone who has played online poker before and it comes complete with useful buttons to snap the bar to a specific fraction of the pot. One very nice touch is the chance to hide the area containing check-boxes, such as Auto-Muck and Auto-Post, that you only need to click once per session.
There are a few settings that the user can alter and tweak, but not as many as some other sites afford you. The table animations can be turned on and off, as can a four color deck. It is an Ongame tradition for every seat at the table to contain a preset avatar. Although these add a little character to the game, they can thankfully be switched off before you become too bored of them.
Hand histories are an important tool for serious players to improve their game. Although an instant hand history can be viewed at the table with a few simple clicks, there is no way to export this information to your hard disk.
Smart Live Poker Room Action
Sadly, there are no US players permitted at Smart Live Poker, which cuts out a whole swathe of potential players from the tables.
As part of the Ongame network, Smart Live Poker appears to be on to a winner. Synonymous with the now defunct PokerRoom in the early days of the poker boom, Ongame has since been acquired by the Austrian gambling giant Bwin. They are now going from strength to strength and now sit 5th in the world’s most popular online poker networks. This also makes them the third most popular network that does not accept American customers.
Smart Live Poker Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
The Ongame network does not accept US players. While this reduces the overall amount of traffic, it does mean that there’s a slightly different style of game on Smart Live Poker, compared to some of the big sites. The play should in general be more passive and aggressive players may well find that they fare better than average. Despite this, enough time spent trawling the flop percentages and other stats should allow you to find almost any kind of table.

Smart Live Poker Customer and Technical Support
Players looking for help on Smart Live Poker should probably first turn to the FAQ section. It’s a solid offering and should be able to deal with a good number of concerns. Otherwise there are a few different ways to get in touch with the support team. The quickest and most efficient way of talking to a member of the team is by activating the Live Chat. A representative should contact you immediately and in our experience they generally seemed very keen to help us out. Unfortunately, it seems that they are not particularly knowledgeable about their product and it took a fair amount of questioning to extract any information we could not have found by searching on the site.
