Tom McEvoy, the 1983 World Champion of Poker, is widely recognized as a foremost poker author and a player of the highest integrity. In 1985 McEvoy wrote the first book ever published on how to win poker tournaments, but the publisher went out of business and the book went out of print. Then in 1995 he developed a publishing association with Dana Smith, his long-time publisher and sometimes co-author, and came out with Tournament Poker, which is often credited with teaching more people how to win tournaments than any other book in history. "Tournament Poker is one of the most important poker books of all time," Howard Schwartz (owner of Gamblers Book Club) write in his book review.--This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Brad Daugherty, 1991 World Champion of Poker
So you want to win the World Series of Poker? Read Tournament Poker and then just do it!

Russ Hamilton, 1994 World Champion of Poker
Nobody knows how to win poker tournaments better than McEvoy.

Phil Hellmuth, Jr., 1989 World Champion of Poker
Tournament Poker is the world's most definitive guide to winning poker tournaments.

Tournament Poker has long been the "bible" for tournament players. Revised and updated in 2001, this book gives you solid advice on how to win 11 tournament games at the World Series of Poker, with a chapter devoted to each game. McEvoy also defines strategies for winning super satellites and multi-game tournaments. He also includes two special chapters, one on the lifestyle and monetary demands of professional poker players; the other with specific answers to the questions his poker students most frequently ask. Endorsed by a dozen World Series of Poker champions.

The book isnt that bad, but its not that great either. Its nice to have a tournament book, and to cover games that are not Hold'em. It covers Razz, Omaha, 7-stud, 7-stud h/l, Lowball, PL and NL Hold'em. I believe it still deserves a read, but other books are probably my crucial to the beginning players.

More like a diary of some of Tom's successes (and he has had many) but only a few anecdotes. Buy one of TJ Cloutier's books (or Slansky's) for much much more insight.
