Interface = puke by Fragmad on 08 Aug 2008

rating 1 / 5
I have been playing on pokerstars for a
while now. But I decided to try out
Pokerroom in the look for the fishes
(50nl).
And the tables at Pokerroom definetly is
softer (compared to stars). But there's
two problems I have with Pokerroom,
these are, only 5-handed tables (no
6-handed). And the interface/usability
is sooo bad, the graphics are really
terrible, plain and simple.
If you are looking for fish, you can
play here, but you will probably hate
the site after a while too, maybe you
can handle the software, I can't.

PokerRoom.com Room Review
|
PokerRoom.com Overview
was one of the first online poker rooms. It launched in 1999 with play money tables only, but has served up real money games since 2001. Since the US legislation which made online gambling transactions illegal, PokerRoom has eliminated US players from its "real money" tables. This has lead to a decline in traffic, but even so, PokerRoom remains one of the top online poker sites in the world.
PokerRoom offers a large list of games: No Limit and Limit Hold'Em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Draw. PokerRoom's short handed tables are 5-max instead of the 6-max we would see on FullTilt and PokerStars. They also offer a wide range of heads up tables. As far as tournaments, they offer SnG's from 1 dollar to 500 dollars in full table, short handed, and heads up. They also have many scheduled tournaments with guaranteed prize pools of over $100,000 and satellites to large live tournaments like the WSOP.
PokerRoom also allows you to bring your home game to the internet. You can set up a game among your friends in a matter of minutes with whatever stakes for cash games or tournaments you please, right on the poker client interface. Furthermore, they offer "Team Play" where you can set up teams or join an existing team where you will enter "team tournaments". In these tournaments you will be sharing buy-ins and winnings with your team. The team will be split to play against members of the other teams and awarded points on their finish in the round. Payouts are then awarded by the payout structure for that particular event.
PokerRoom is also the first online poker client to have the e-Commerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) seal of approval. eCOGRA, is "a non-profit organization, is the independent standards authority of the online gaming industry, specifically overseeing fair gaming, player protection and responsible operator conduct. The function that eCOGRA performs protects those who engage in online gaming where it is lawful".
In addition to poker, you can convert your account money into "Casino Chips" and play other casino games on your web browser. Popular games such as Blackjack, Let It Ride, Video Poker, Roulette, Slots, Craps, Baccarat and Pai Gow attract hundreds of players going for some nice payouts ranging from the thousands to the tens of thousands for the highest jackpot prizes.
Poker Room is a Thawte Secure Site and is licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
PokerRoom.com Software Interface/Usability
offers an interface with the best graphics around. They have realistic 3D avatars sitting at the table as you play; so if you can be a bald guy, James Bond, or a hustler grandma while you play poker if you feel so inclined. If you prefer, you can also turn these off.
The lobby at PokerRoom is very straight forward and easy to use. Each type of game can be split between different stakes and amount of players in your search. Furthermore, they show average pot size, hands per hour, and players to the flop. Each player's stack is also right in front of you in the lobby. The only downside to the client is that player search, hand histories, cashier, and account info are not accessible in the client directly. In the lobby they are links to different web pages.
At the tables themselves, there is a very nice set-up. At the bottom of the screen they tell you how big the pot is, what the last bet was, and exactly how much rake has been taken, all in digital values. On the bottom right they have chat which also tells you the action. Another cool feature is during an all-in, they show the percentages for each hand winning and continue as they change during the flop, turn, and river. This way you can know if you were right about your decision or just how sucked out you got to an exact value.
A cool feature of PokerRoom is the "Instant Play" online capability. You can play any of the tables online without downloading the client. Most poker clients are large and take up a lot of disk space so this is a good feature for those of us with other things cluttering out hard disk. Not only can you play on your browser without downloading the client but you can also take out the donkeys on your mobile phone from any location where you have WiFi to your cell.
You can have all your PokerRoom hand history files automatically saved to your computer. These HHs can then be used with Poker Tracker to keep track of your progress.
PokerRoom.com Poker Room Action
is a fairly large poker site so finding a table is not a problem. Hold'Em seems to be far and away the game of choice. There are plenty of tables full or almost full in every limit of Hold'Em with no waiting list. They even have a fairly regular $50/$100 No Limit game. Also, a ton of action at $10/$20, $5/$10, and $3/$6. Omaha still offers a good game but it may take a little longer to find it. There is little action on the higher stakes Omaha tables. Though, 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Draw have plenty of action through all the limits. SnG's throughout the buy-ins fill pretty quickly. It's certainly easier to get one going in the $5-$50 range though, you may be waiting a little bit at the $100-$500 ones. You will not have trouble with traffic at PokerRoom.
PokerRoom's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
For the most part appears to be quite fishy. At the lower stakes we see a lot of calling stations and spewers. Mid-stakes no limit is a gold mine. There seems to be almost no regs and a massive quantity of open-shoves with AJ suited and calls with J8 suited. If you ever find a full stack at the table (it is extremely rare) it is either a reg or pure luck and it is easy to figure out which in minutes. It appears a one could have a pretty massive win rate at these tables.
PokerRoom Promotion Code & Bonus
offers an
exclusive FTR bonus allowing 100% initial deposit bonus up to $500, which is FIVE TIMES as good as PokerRoom's standard 20% up to $100! You do not want to miss this deal! Make sure you use the PokerRoom Bonus Code FTR for this special bonus! Bonuses are released by earning player points. Each dollar requires 7 player points. So, the full amount of $500 would require 3500 player points. Raked hands of $.50 to $.99 earn 0.5 player points each, while each raked hand of $1 or more earns 1 point.
It sounds a bit confusing, but player point information can easily be checked via the My Account (Cashier) button. Bonuses are not released into your real money account until the full amount is earned. Multi-tabling at the stakes I play at for just a few days, this was no problem to clear -- long before the bonus expiration of 60 days.
New depositors will also be given 3 free tickets to the weekly welcome series tournament. This tournament is a freeroll restricted for only new depositors, so you don't have to worry about the thousands of players you usually see for a $50 freeroll. Also, the total prize pool per week is $2,500! This is a larger freeroll than normally offered with LESS players! All you have to do is finish in the top 15 in any of the daily tournaments (you get 3 tickets) and you will be qualified for the weekly final on Sunday.
Again, be sure to use our exclusive Bonus Code: FTR to get these bonuses.
PokerRoom.com also offers a lot of player point related promotions, such as WSOP qualifiers, freerolls, etc.
is a nice
addition to your list of hangouts, stop by some time
and check it out.
PokerRoom.com Customer and Technical Support
offers great support and with many different options. First, there is the email route which garners quick and helpful responses. Also, they offer 24 hour live chat with a customer service representative. The chat is a little slow, but they are happy to answer all of your questions. A special feature of PokerRoom's customer service is they offer 24 hour phone support in the US, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom, and New Zealand, and they put your account reference number right below the phone number for ease of access.

at the lower limits where I play, still
doing well at the low stakes no limit
tables. I'll be playing here for a
while.

I learnt to play at Pokerroom and I
still like its look and feel best. The
ease with which you can create private
tables is a big plus; the software is
excellent, and the percentage calculator
when players are all-in is an excellent
touch. 5-handed tables are good fun, the
forum/community aspect is strong, and
you can play poker without downloading a
client. It's not all that fishy, and is
not great for bonuses. But it's got the
solidest and most professional feel of
the 6 sites I have joined.

This room is no substitute for your
bonus fix if that's what you're after.
The look of the table is nice and the
action is ok-- when it's working.
I've had 4 disconnections in 3 days of
using the site and I'm cashing out now
without getting the bonus as it's a
LONG way away. The bonus would be tough
to reach at my low limits but I had
thought it was doable. However, the
disconnects torpedo any desire I have to
get the bonus. I'd just as soon take
my lumps and losses for now. Lots of
loose action at the .25/.50 tables. The
.5/1 tables are a little tighter but
still rather loose, with accompanying
bad beats that go with so many callers
in a pot. I like loose tables but the
frequent disconnects make this site and
its bonus unplayable.

The players here are absolutely
horrible. Lots of bad beats, but lots
of money to be made if you can handle
the cheesy graphics, and ridiculous egos
in chat. Don't hit the play money
tables if you're any good. I always
like to hit some play tables to test a
site before I "invest". I found you
can actually be voted off! After
kicking the crap out of the table, they
held a vote. I was alowed to stay by
one vote. Was not even chatting - just
winning! They were actually going to
boot me from their table for winning
PLAY MONEY! I only play this site to
when I am at my mother-in-laws because
she has a MAC and MACS don't suppoert

play when it's more about making some
easy money than playin in a fun,
challenging game.)

I would say I have played on them all
that are worth playing on and PokerRoom
is quite simply the nicest looking, most
fun place to play. They have great games
(need more micro limits) for all levels
with an easy to understand interface.
Their download software is genius with
the best features Ive ever seen (now
gives the odds when you go all in) and
theyve even got a pretty cool casino.
The players can be tough (with their
mouths aswell) but have found their
support extremely helpful in all
aspects. Lots of bonuses if you keep

just visit their newly revamped Forum

I learned and started here....Was down
about 400 the first 6 months, then I got
involved with their posting
site(pokah.com...little substance, since
the Poker Rush of 2003/04), created my
own group, made some decent posts and
suggestions buttering up support a
tad....bam was off and running, made all
my money back plus $500, made a
withdrawl for $300, leaving me with $175
of free money to play with, from that
day forth it all started to unravel, I
struggled a little for a bit, withdrew
$200(2wkslater), kept $100...But was
starting to get annoyed at the play and
influx of young idiots and decided to
chk out some other sites, didn't see
too much better...so I went back.
BIG MISTAKE!
SINCE NOV. 24,I HAVE WON EXACTLY "TWO"
BIG BETs

SnGo)flopped the nuts 773.T. K...chpldr
went all in w/ AA at turn, take half his
stack..He is FULL TILT...moves all in
nxt hand, How sweet of him...CAUSE I GOT
THE ROCKETS IN MY POCKET..He shows 23o,
Flop:482.32....Game over for me!
Over the last 6 mos(played, 1st time in
while lastnight...$1/2ring, just to see)
Started too good, AA, AJs, QQ, win all 3
hands, last one with trips vs KK, for
$50 win, Next hand...I($72.5) get KK in
BB, everyone chks,sb calls, I raise $4,
same guy calls($73), evryone else
folds...K72, is flop(rainbow), I chk, he
bets $12, I re-raise to $24....he goes
all in..I call...turn: 2 river: 2...
I know it happens, but still...add it
up.
2 withdrawls, couple of Neg replies to
posts, started playing with other
sites...NOT A PENNY IN PROFIT
SINCE....OH AND ALL THOSE OLD PLAYER
POINTS I HAD...ONCE EQUAL TO REAL $, ARE
NOW WORTHLESS!
I know more than a few with similar
issues....

although there is less choice than at
Empire/Party. I have found the customer
support to be excellent and their
payouts over 1k are fast and basically
at no cost to you. They do have
occasional issues with connectivity but
in the one tournament where that
affected me they paid out the remaining
participants on a pro rata basis. I like
the mix of players, there appear to be
fewer whiners than at some other sites.

For what it's worth I really enjoy
playing pokerroom.com. Not to say that
it
doesn't have its faults but overall I
think it's a great site. Unfortunately,
I own
a mac and since I don't want to spring
for Virtual PC I'm forced to play on
sites that accepts macs. And the list is
small. But eventhough I have a lack of
choices I have no complaints. The
sign-up process was painless got my
bonus pretty quickly and I haven't had
huge connection issues. The site is a
breeze to move through and there's
always action. The interface is simple
and
direct. The characters that represent
the players get a little tiring to look
at
after awhile but it's not going to stop
me from playing. As for the action.
Tons of tables both ring, multi and
single table. I stick to the single
table
action and can find a game at the level
I want to play no problem.
Technical support: on a technical level
I haven't had any huge issues but I
will
get bumped off on the rare occasion.
As for technical support: I wouldn't
say it blows but I sent them two emails
about collusion and heard nothing back.
I would assume that this is their
highest priority so it's a little bit
of a negative. But since I sent the
email I
haven't seen the players that were
cheating So hopefully they took care of
the
problem. As for ease of game. I'll just
put it this way... There are plenty of
fish
in the sea.

I've played at PR since 2001. Still do,
but that is changing as I try other
sites. I play the SNG's almost
exclusively. (I do like PR's SNG's,
but one too many disconnects when down
to 4 handed is getting hard to take)
Interface: I like it. But its the 1st
one I learned too, so take that for what
its worth.
Action: I never have trouble finding a
game.
Technical/Customer support: Absolutely
Terrible. I've had numerous emails that
have never been responded to. (numerous
= more than 3, less than 10). One email
to report collusion: no reply. Three
times on disconnects in critical
situations: no reply. Pokerroom does
warn of no allin protection, so you are
forewarned. (I've experienced far more
than 3, but these were pokerrooms system
and had a direct impact on outcome).
After a withdraw was rejected by
neteller I found the phone number to
support. That got fixed in less that an
hour. (more on collusion can be found at
pokerrooms forum Pokah! "A warning to
MTT players". Judge for yourself).
Ease of games: I've went from knowing
nothing to better than holding my own.
IMO I think there is a good mix.
Bonus/promotions: A pokerroom plus. You
can earn bonus points through tournament
play. Not many offer that. I find it
fairly easy to achieve in @ 2-3 weeks.

few freerolls.

I have been playing on Pokerroom for 6
months now and it is great. The graphics
are so awesome, way better than any
other site, except for maybe
pokerstars.com. The main attraction is
easy to use interface, getting to tables
is so easy. Especially useful if you
and a friend are trying to get to a
table...they load quickly and actually
have names so it is easy to tell a
friend what table you are at.
PartyPoker, the so call best in the
buisness, is terrible with this, their
tables just have a seven digit number.
Also they have a feature where you can
find out if a friend is online and
playing at their site with a
playersearch button. Pokerroom is the
cream of the crop when it comes to
online poker. Some times the beats seem
exceedingly frequent and bad, but that
is just poker. People dont' like to
loose and when they do they want to
blame the site, not their play. I would
recomend pokerroom to all!!

Pokerroom.com seems to have fewer frills
than any other site out there. The GUI
is simple and easy to follow. The
button commands make moving chips into
pots without a mouse quite simple. The
sit-and-go qualifiers are plentiful and
at most put you one step from making
substantial money. The monthly draw
gives you a chance to earn a fully paid
seat to a WPT event, and the multi-table
tournaments are smooth with fair
payouts. Plentiful bad beats make some
folk refer to the server as Jokerroom,
but that is just poker and the emotional
roller coaster associated. All in all,
pokerroom is your basic, no non-sense
