Poker Nordica.com Overview
is part of Merge Gaming, one the newer networks. Even though the name is new, the software is not. It has been around since early 2005 (formerly Poker.com) and has undergone many updates and changes. They’ve also added new rooms to increase traffic. Poker Nordica welcomes all US players to play in real money games.
Poker Nordica offers one of the largest variety of games seen at an online poker room: Limit, Pot-limit, and No-limit Hold’em; Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo; 5 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo; Razz; Limit and Pot-limit 5 Card Draw; and 2-7/A-5 Lowball. They also offer Badugi, a spin off of 2-7 Lowball with 4 cards.
Even with all the different games on offer, over 90% of the players are still addicted to the ever popular No-limit Hold’em. Other than during peak hours, there usually are only a few (or no) tables open for games like Omaha, Stud, and Lowball. Of the people playing No-limit Hold’em, almost all are spread across stakes $.50 - $1 and below. There are generally few tables open, if any, for stakes higher than this.
Overall, the Sit & Go traffic at Poker Nordica is slim, but the low stakes get action. If you like playing at $22 and below, you should have no trouble getting a game running. In fact, about 85% of the games we saw listed as running/finished were in this buy-in range. The most popular types being played are the heads-up tournaments and there is always a match going. They also offer regular/turbo in 10 or 6 max, and custom satellites to larger tournaments.
Multi-Table Tournaments at PokerNordica are primarily low stakes, much like their Sit & Go traffic. Most of the buy-ins are in the $1 - $20 range, and they offer many small guaranteed tournaments ranging from $200 ($2 + $.20) up to $3000 ($23 + $2) daily. Many of these guarantees do not hit the mark, so you can expect to have some nice overlays in prize money from a lot of tournaments. An example of this would be the $3000 daily guaranteed prize pool with a $23 + $2 buy-in; currently there have around 100-110 or so players that enter, generating around $500-$700 in overlays daily.
You can really cash in at Poker Nordica with their freerolls. Every month, they are giving away over $100,000 in special tournaments with no buy-ins! Daily they offer many $50, some $500, and one $1000 freeroll, with a $2000 and a $10,000 weekly. One of their big promotions is their large $50,000 monthly freeroll, which is offered on the last Saturday of every month. One point that needs mentioning is that some of these freerolls, while having no buy-in, do have entry requirements. For example, in order to play in the monthly $50,000 freeroll you had to have earned at least 5000 Comp Points in that given month. (Comps Points are explained below.)
Playing real money games at will earn you Comp Points. While playing ring games, Comp Points are awarded to all players dealt in a raked hand. The amount you earn depends on the limit you’re at: from 3 points per hand at low stakes, up to 10 points per hand at the high stakes. You also earn Comps by paying tournament fees. The amount you earn varies and is listed in the tournament lobby, but usually averages around 75-90 points per $1 paid. Comps are mainly used for tracking bonuses and to award freeroll coupons (as described above). They also are used to evaluate eligibility for exclusive offers and special player's clubs.
Depositing on PokerNordica can be done through the following methods: Click2Pay; Neteller; Moneybookers; MyCitadel; Ecocard; Visa/MasterCard; and ePassporte. Poker Nordica recommended using ePassporte for depositing from the United States.
Poker Nordica.com Software Interface/Usability
The overall appearance of the interface at is very attractive. The lobby is well organized in a tabbed menu and by using these tabs you can show or hide different limits within games. When you join a new table, a tab in the lobby is displayed as well as a new window opening up. Up to twelve tables can be opened at once, which are resizable for your convenience.
The tournament lobby is accessed by selecting ‘Tournaments’. There you will find the regularly schedules MTTs along with Sit & Go and other private/satellite tournaments. One negative thing about searching through their MTTs is that, because there are so many, the list can look a little overwhelming.
The table layout is also very appealing. The seating offered for every limit is 9 player full ring, 6 max shorthanded, and heads-up. While sitting at the table you will find a few options to make multi-tabling easier. You can select a preferred seat, auto features, 4 color decks, and hand descriptions. You can also adjust table size to as small or as large as you like, or use a full screen mode. The note taking is also very nice at Poker Nordica. Not only can you take notes on anyone, you can select an icon to be associated with that player (ranging from a shark to a fish) along with using a color to display around them. This can help to make decisions easier.
Game speed was average, perhaps slower paced than some other online poker rooms. This can be good for your game if you like to take time to make decisions. However, it can be frustrating to those who like fast-paced games.
Hand history is instantly available but you have to go to the lobby to access it. In the lobby, go to ‘History’ to access their viewer. One frustrating thing is the format is very hard to follow. They are displayed in a picture format, as opposed to text. Additionally, they cannot be saved locally in text format. Instead, they are saved in XML format, so you cannot copy and paste into most applications.
PokerNordica Poker Room Action
Because the network uses is fairly new, the action is not as high as some other online poker rooms. Currently, they have an average of 4000 players connected with almost all that traffic being at the low stakes. The same holds for their tournaments, with the average buy-in being $22 or lower. With the great software and game selection, one can hope the action will grow at Poker Nordica.
Poker Nordica's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
The fish rating at is average in comparison to other online sites today. Most sites that still allow US players tend to be a bit tougher than rooms that block them. However, don’t let that scare you! There are still many fish swimming at PokerNordica.
PokerNordica.com Bonus and Promotions
Currently, exclusive to FTR, offers a first time deposit bonus of 200% up to $400! To take advantage of this, you must use sign up at Poker Nordica through the links on this page and enter coupon code FTR when making your first deposit. Clearing this bonus is done by earning Comp Points. As stated earlier, here is how Comp Points are earned:
While playing ring games, Comp Points are awarded to all players dealt in a raked hand. You also earn Comps by paying tournament fees. The amount you earn varies, and is listed in the tournament lobby, but usually averages around 75-90 points per $1 paid.
If you want to take advantage of this bonus, you must earn 250 Comps for every $1 in bonus money. Bonuses will be paid out in $10 increments (every 2500 Comps.) To earn the full $400, you will need to earn 100,000 Comps. This is quite a lot, even though Comps can rack up fairly quickly: you usually earn about 3 per raked hand even at micro stakes and 75 for every $10 + $1 Sit & Go played. If you have a lot of time to grind this out it is worth it, but note that it will take quite a long time. Something else to note is that you can not cash out at any time while earning or your bonus becomes invalid. Also, when making your first deposit you will get a freeroll coupon for a daily $500 freeroll, but it must be used within 7 days.
