Very unique online poker room, combines video games with real money poker. There is no other site out there like PKR today. Many different features. |

No US players allowed on real money tables, although the idea is fun this site isn't really the best option to build your bankroll. |

PKR.com Review
It is important to note that due to the October 2006 legislation in the United States currently does NOT accept US customers to play in any real money games. If you are in the US you can still create an account, but will only be allowed to use play money chips.
Do you like Video Games? Do you like Poker? Well great, PKR has exactly what you want. I was excited when I heard about the idea of PKR Poker because it was like no other. In every other online poker room today you play at a flat 2d table with no animation. Although that may be necessary for people who love playing 12 or more tables, the idea of PKR is very intriguing. PKR attempts to enhance your online experience by taking it to a new level, a completely controllable 3d environment.
It seems that this idea has also caught the eye of some other people as well. After only being active for a short while, their player base has grown from a few hundred to a few thousand. Also, during peak hours you can find close to 7000 people at one time. However, I noticed that out of the average of 3000 connected there is about 1000 or more on the play money tables. There are also times when there are more people playing with play money than real money.
Currently PKR only offers two games, limit, pot-limit, and no-limit Hold’em, and limit, pot-limit Omaha. They plan on expanding their games to include others in the future. During my stay at PKR I noticed only one Omaha table ever running, with 3 people. The majority of the real money players are playing low/mid-stake no-limit Hold’em. If you are playing mid stakes such as $100nl, then you should have no problem finding a table to play.
PKR’s Sit & Go and Multi-Table Tournament’s do not get much traffic at all. In fact, like ring games, I noticed at times that there were more people registered for play money tournaments than real money. Most of the SnG traffic is the $11 range and below. There were a few $55 games running, but I never saw any higher stakes. As for tournaments they have various guaranteed prize pools ranging from $200 ($1 +$.10 buyin), up to $3000 ($25 +$2.5 buyin) daily. Most of these tournaments see 200-300 entrees and are continually growing. They also have special $15000 and $25000 guaranteed main event prize pools coming up the next coming weeks. In addition to their regular tournaments, they also offer many $50 daily freerolls and $1000 premium freerolls (which require PKR points to buyin).
PKR offers various deposit methods for non-US players; Neteller, Visa/Mastercard, Switch, FirePay, Solo, and Click2Pay.

PKR.com Software Interface/Usability
This is where stands out from all other online poker rooms today. They have taken online poker to the next level and have given it a “live” feel. When playing at competing poker sites all you do is click the mouse with no real action to keep the average player captivated. However, at PKR you will never be bored while you play.
PKR’s lobby has one of the best layouts I have seen to date. Everything is organized with tabs and colors. You can also customize what is being displayed and sort the tables by any means. Also, if you select the “Me” tab at the top you can create a custom character for you to use at your tables. Here you can spend PKR points to get custom clothing, or chip tricks, but there are enough free selections for you to create yourself (or anyone else).
When you first sit down at the table you might be a little overwhelmed from the options. The first thing you would want to do is change the camera to whatever seems most comfortable. I was surprised to see all the different methods, anything from overview to even first person mode. Next to the camera options you will find various animated emotes for your character to act. There are many for you to choose from to enhance your game and the chat. I happened to find them fairly annoying as many players would just spam the same ones over and over. You do however have the option to disable them. These options may be fun for someone looking for a fun game, but a serious poker player they tend to be just a nuisance.
One other thing being at the table that you will notice is your cards are not displayed for you. When you are dealt your hand, your character looks at what it is then it is not shown again until you press “Look at Cards.” In the screen shot above, it shows a character checking his cards when the action is to him. I could not find an option so your cards are always displayed, and I found this to be frustrating. Many times hands are slowed down because everyone is always looking back at their cards. This also makes multi-tabling very difficult, which is hard to begin with.
While playing, hand histories are instantly available for you to look through right at the table. There is a tab on the right side of the table to open this. Hand histories are also automatically saved onto your desktop. One problem I saw was they are very unorganized. It was nearly impossible for me to look through them if needed. Also, to my knowledge, programs such as Poker Tracker currently do not support PKR.
I think PKR has a very unique and interesting approach to online poker. Making it a 3d environment really adds to the feel of the game. However, for the serious player, I don’t think PKR is for you. You can play up to 4 tables of real money at once, but it gets pretty distracting past two. Tables are rather larger than normal, but resizeable. The resizing also has some issues and everything starts to get crammed and sometimes not displayed. However, if you need a break from the same old online poker room and want to play in a video game like world for real money, give PKR a try!

PKR Poker Room Action
is newer than other rooms, so the action is still relatively small. Their player base has grown since launch, but as stated earlier there may be times when play money is more popular than real money. Although they offer Hold’em and Omaha, don’t expect to see an Omaha table running. There is still enough action in the real money games to play, especially if your bankroll is suited for mid-stakes. I expect their numbers keep growing and the action getting larger with such a unique room.

PKR.com Customer and Technical Support
had good support when I dealt with them. I had sent them an e-mail with a various questions about their software and they sent a reply within 4 hours. They have a few ways to contact them listed in their website, including live web chat, e-mail, and toll-free (for some countries) telephone. The easiest way to contact PKR is on their website through their contact form.

PKR's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
Don’t expect to see a lot of multi-tabling shark at . In fact, I think it is safe to say 80% or more of the player’s don’t even know how to play Hold’em but are playing because it looks neat. You will occasionally run into a rock, but this is definitely the fishiest website I had seen.

PKR.com Bonus and Promotions
PKR currently offers a couple different first time deposit bonuses. The first is a 50% first deposit bonus of up to $250 or $25 with a minimum of a $20 deposit. In order to earn both you need to earn as many PKR points as your bonus amount (for the $25 you need to earn 3000 PKR points). Earning PKR points is a bit confusing at first, as it is not like any other site, but here is their description:
“PKR points are awarded on raked hands played on real money tables. They are calculated against the amount that you’ve put into the pot divided between the other players at the table. That means the bigger the pot, the more PKR points everyone gets. Your points are also based on the amount that you put into the pot – so the more you contribute yourself, the more PKR Points you’ll earn in the hand.
Example - In a 4 handed cash game with a $50 pot raked at $2.50 a player who bet a total of $9 would receive 45 points (reflecting the 18% of the pot they contributed).
You also get 100 PKR points for every $1 you spend in entry fees.”
In order to earn the 50% bonus you need to accumulate 125 PKR Points for each $1. So if you take advantage of the entire $250 you would need to earn 31250 PKR points. The bonus will not be given in partial amounts, it must all be earned within 90 days. This may seem like a lot, however earning PKR points is rather fast. It states on their website that you can earn 3000 points in about 20 raked hands.

“Wonderful!” by Cavalar, 11 Jun 2007 |
Interface: Action: Support: Fish: Bonus: |
I have played at several other sites
(Party Poker, Empire Poker, Ladbrokes,
Pokerroom and Sportingbet), but i will
never go back to playing on any of those
sites. PKR is simply the best poker room
out there - in fact, I can't even see
why any low- or mid-stake player should
want to play at any other site!
Of course, PKR has its cons, like slow
lobby updating, minor bugs and seldom
any high stakes games going at all, but
after all, this is nothing compared to
the extreme advantage of this poker
room, namely the graphics. Any other
poker room is just boring compared to
PKR! An excellent website with forums,
blogs and guestbooks for all the
players, is not very bad either.
I cannot understand that this review
says that the
manually-looking-on-cards-feature is a
bad thing. It give off incredible
accurate tells, and I have to say that
it is much easier to actually read
people at PKR than at any other site.
Playing at PKR is a love or
hate-relationship. If you are a hardcore
player, winning 5000$ or more during a
normal day, I guess this probably is not
for you (although I would suggest that
you gived it a try, just for the fun of
it). If you play for play money, for
fun, for low stakes or even mid stakes -
no matter how serious you are - PKR IS
in fact for you! The loyalty program is
also excellent.
As mentioned in the main article, you
get one PKR point for every single cent
you pay in rake. These points can you
purchase clothes, accessories and even
chip tricks (although most of them are
really expensive.) The website also
includes a tournament ranking system, a
good way of seeing how you are doing
compared to the thousands of other
players at the site.
I think PKR should have been rated much
higher here at flopturnriver.com, this
is an extraordinary poker room with no
equivalents whatsoever, grapichs that
makes all other poker rooms look like
something you wore in the 80's. Ugly,
boring and not attractive. PKR is the
best, and I will probably never play at
any other poker room again (at least not
before any of them makes a PKR-ripoff
that is actually better than the
original.)
Come join me at the tables :) |
