is a poker room based in Kahnawake and owned by the Fortune Lounge Group. Island Poker is a new site running on Las Vegas From Home Entertainment Software. This room is on the Action Poker Network, so you'll be sharing tables and players with Superior Poker, Tiger Gaming Poker, and Nine.com Poker. It is a very small room with a very small player base. The players there do seem to hang out there often, indicating loyalty to the room.

Users can deposit using a bank draft, firepay, credit card, and neteller. Island poker recommends using neteller above all other deposit methods, even going so far as to increase the bonuses doled out when users use neteller to deposit.

Despite offering many games and different blind levels for limit and no limit hold'em games, the only populated games are found at lower stakes. You'd be hard pressed to find any NL game with a max buy-in of more than $100; for limit players, this story is a bit different. Even in the middle of the afternoon, you can find a populated full table at $15-$30 blinds.

Island Poker also offers some unique poker games such as Chinese poker, Pan, and Guts in addition to Holdem, Omaha, and 7-card stud.

The interface featured at is nimble and clean, with nothing to bog down your PC or their server. It allows for fast gameplay, leaving few pauses between hands and dealing out the cards rapidly. The lobby looks nice, and gives you vital information on the tables for ring games, including average pot size, and even more importantly, the average percentage of players seeing the flop.

The table interface is just as clean and appealing as the lobby area, with everything geared towards playing poker. There are no distracting avatars and the background image for the table is very pretty. You have the option to tell the server what you're going to do in advance of your turn, with the option to check, fold, check/fold, or to call a bet. There is no call any / raise any button. Once the action is on you, you have the normal options of folding, checking, calling, and raising. What's unique about Island Poker's table interface, though, is that when raising, you have two buttons to raise with. One is the minimum raise, and the other is to "raise other", where you are taken to an applet where you can either type in your bet or use the slider bar to bet. Be warned though; Island Poker's software isn't the most robust technology out, and if you type in your bet, make sure that when you click the "bet $___" button, that the number in the blank space is what you mean to bet. Oftentimes, the software will ignore what you typed in and raise a predetermined bet size anyway. This is a major fault with the interface. Otherwise, there are no problems.

One important thing to note as well is that this room does NOT offer shorthanded ring games…period. If you specialize or enjoy playing 6 max NL tables, then this room is definitely not for you.

Because of the limited player base at , you will be hard pressed to ever find a NL ring game above a max buy-in of $100. In fact, at $100 NL, there usually are only 1-2 tables populated with players. The microlimits, fortunately, are always populated, and will always be filled, but if you roll with blinds any larger than $.50-$1.00, then this room is definitely not for you.

The action when playing limit hold'em is actually better at Island Poker than it is when playing no limit hold'em. You can find a game populated at nearly every blind level, right up to $15-$30 blinds. If you're a player who specializes in limit poker, this room is a great room for you.

Island Poker also does not feature any MTTs to speak of. The only tournaments that they host are SnG's, so the closest you will get to a MTT is a 20 person SnG. If you like SnG's with small buy ins, this room is definitely for you. They offer SnG's as low as $1+$.15, and if you like feeder tournaments, you can buy into the lowest stage of their WPT entry tourneys for $.05+$.01, but if you do so, you're going to need a lot of luck to ever cash anything. There is a small wait time whenever you are trying to start a tournament with a buy in of $5 to $10, but nothing outrageous.

To contact customer support when sitting at the tables, you can simply click the "call floor person" button located in the bottom left corner. This will bring you to a page where you can talk to "live help." Island Poker's live help is, quite frankly, horrendous. If you ask more than one question at a time, they will often ignore one of the questions and just forget about it. And whenever they are "checking on something", don't let them "check" for more than a minute, or else they will stop talking to you and consider the help session closed. That being said, if you repeat your question enough times, you will eventually find someone competent enough to answer it. Sometimes you'd be better off just asking people at the tables instead of going through customer support.

The competition at Island Poker is expectedly soft…very soft. The players here are akin to their counterparts at Pacific Poker. You'll rarely find less than 2/5's of the players seeing the flop, even when there are raises of 4x the BB preflop. Just play straight ABC poker, nothing fancy, no bluffs, and you should do fine. Players at Island Poker don't seem to understand how to raise or how to bet, much less how to fold. Just make a hand, and make them pay. They generally don't understand pot odds, so it's even worth it to see the flop with Ax suited from late position because if they bet, it will often be so small as to allow you to draw to the flush with odds. You will be much better off here just tightening up and letting the cards take care of themselves rather than trying to bluff people out of pots.

offers an initial deposit bonus of either 50% up to $200 or 100% up to $100. We clearly think that the 100% initial deposit match bonus is the better way to go. But you must use bonus code @JECEPJ4 to receive the 100% bonus.

The bonus is paid out just like it is at Party Poker and its skins, in one lump sum and only after the requirements have been met. What are the requirements? You must have 6 "pop points" for every dollar that you deposited, not for every dollar in bonus. It is very important that you recognize this distinction. If you deposit $100, you will get $100 in bonuses from Island Poker, but this bonus will not be cleared until you earn 2000 "pop points"!

How do you get "pop points?" Players are awarded 1 pop point for every $.10 they contribute in rake. This means that clearing the bonus is going to be slow going because you're going to have to give them $200 in rake before you can clear $100 in bonus money. This is pretty brutal.

It is most definitely NOT recommended to come to this room to strictly bonus whore; to do so is not a positive expected value move.

“Island Poker truly on an Island” by ensign_lee, 14 Jul 2005

Interface:  4/5   Action:  2/5   Support:  3/5   Fish:  5/5   Bonus:  1/5

This place has a very small player base, but the good news is that they're all REALLY, REALLY bad! For a micro NL player, this is heaven! Shorthanded games are in short (read: zero) supply, but full ring games are everywhere. If you play the Party $50 or $25 NL stakes, this place will be easy pickings for ya. The bonus is insanely hard to clear, but if you have no other bonus to work off, it isn't really that bad of a choice. All in all, a site worth visiting, but not to play at regularly.

Interface:  4/5   Action:  2/5   Support:  2/5   Fish:  5/5   Bonus:  2/5

The interface at Island is good unless you like short handed games. The action is somewhat weak. Technical Support is not all that great. Fish are the reason for choosing this room! The bonus is hard to clear.
