Play with Hollywood's Finest B-listers. Lots of different options for tournament players. Software actually has some unique features. Tons of bonus options to choose from at Hollywood Poker ranging from $50 up to $5000! |

Beats (Suck): |

Software has cool features, but kind of clunky, you have to really explore the software to find all of its secrets. The software also has some annoyances. No US players allowed at Hollywood Poker. Bonuses can take a very long time to earn, so make sure you can grind out a lot of hands. |

Hollywood Poker.com Review
is where you can play with the stars! Literally. Well maybe not stars, but people who have been on TV anyway. HollywoodPoker is powered by Safepay Int. S.R.L., a company incorporated under the laws of Costa Rica. It runs on the same network as PokerRoom.com (OnGame), and uses the same software and traffic. Hollywood Poker does NOT accept US players from any locations to play for real money.
If you're use to the old Hollywood Poker and haven't played here for a while, be prepared for a lot of changes! They have switched network a couple times, and seemed to have finally found a home on the OnGame network. The software has been changed drastically since it was on its own network, which is good and bad. The traffic is now enormous, which is probably a nice tradeoff. For cash games, you can fine Hold'em (no limit, pot limit, limit), Omaha / Omaha Hi/Lo (pot limit, limit), and 7 Card / 5 Card Stud. With the great amounts of traffic, finding a game is easy. There are always (yes ALWAYS) many tables of every limit running, especially during peak hours.
Tournaments and sit & gos are quite popular as well, however not as much as cash games. That doesn't mean you won't be able to find a game for your bankroll, because you will! Sit & Gos range from $1 + $.20 up to $500 + $25, and they offer regular/turbo, 10 max, 5 max, heads up, multi-table (up to 5 tables), and deep stacked. They also have a unique luckbox tournament called MAD Tilt ALL-IN, which starts you off with 60 chips and 10-20 blinds. You can play these with up to 50 players (with 3 places paid) if you really feel like gambling! They also offer specials like King of the Hill tournaments, which are like STEPs. Grand prize is $2500 if you can work your way up to the top! MTTs have quite the range as well and offer $14 million guaranteed every month. Their most popular guaranteed tournaments are their $22 ($10k and $20k gtd), $33 + rebuys ($30k gtd), and their weekly "Big Deal" which is a $320 buy-in and has $150,000 gtd. On the last Sunday of each month, this tournament is HUGE, with a $1000 + $40 buy-in and is $1,000,000 guaranteed! Usually there is an overlay, so this can be very nice to play if you have the bankroll.
Speaking of tournaments, they have some interesting regular tournaments. Every Thursday night they have the Michael Woods Invitational Tournament. This is a $10+1 tournament that anyone can enter. There are celebrities in this tournament, and they have bounties, $20 each. They also have a leaderboard of all the collected bounties. Here is a partial list of celebs I took off the leaderboard. Vince Van Patten, Michael Kane, Mena Suvari, James Woods, Ricki Lake, Kato Kaelin, Scott Baio, Mimi Rogers, Tim Busfield, and Michael Ian Black. Looks a lot like Bravo!'s Celebrity Poker Showdown, doesn't it. They also have "Easy Money" tournaments where it's a $5+$1 buy in and 50% of the entrants will win money. They also have a "Lucky Dollar" tournament that costs $1 to enter and has $2,500 added to the prize pool. For first time depositors, you can enter the "Red Carpet" tournament, which is free for you. They only throw in $2 per entrant, so not necessarily a big prize pool, but I guess it's something. They also have freerolls throughout the day.
This site does have some neat things. I've enjoyed playing there so far. The celeb factor is interesting. Today Michael Woods, Timothy Busfield, and Ricki Lake were all hanging out in the chat room. But again unless you were a fan of Thirty something or day time talk shows, you might not care all that much. Still a fun place to play regardless.

Hollywood Poker.com Software Interface/Usability
's software has some very cool features, but it has one MAJOR cosmetic issue. If you look at the picture above, that is what every table looks like, exactly. The same people, sitting in the same chairs. My first time in I had no choice, but to be the busty babe in red. I guess it's better than being the grandma in Seat 10! You can also turn these avatars off if you prefer. The lobby has a nice layout, and is standard if you're use to OnGame. In fact, everything is exactly the same as any PokerRoom skin minus the banner! You can select Cash Games, or Tournaments then find a table or tournament for you. One annoyance with the cash games is they don't list them all based on stake. What I mean is you have to select between Micro, Low, Medium or High and do not list all tables in one column. Also, the stakes indicator can be confusing. For example, it lists $1-$2 in the lobby when it is actually $.50 - $1. Not sure why they do it this way.
Being able to have it full screen, and really see the detailed graphics (for a poker room anyway) is impressive, but obviously you wouldn't use it if you play multiple tables. It does have some really cool features. The note taking is more detailed than I've seen on other sites. You can also classify people and tag them with a little colored button that will go next to their name. You can determine which button stands for what. So you can label one Tight/Aggressive and put that button next to someone, etc. So once you have the table pegged you can just look at the button you placed next to each player, to see how to play them. Kind of neat, in my opinion. You also have the option of typing in notes on each player as well.
You can also vote people off of a table, if they are being abusive or obnoxious. The current bet, pot size, and rake are all clearly visible at the bottom of the screen. The chat window is easy to manage. You can simply click on the options to the left of the chat window to decide if you want dealer chat, table chat, both. You can also make the chat window external and bigger to fit the side of the game screen. Last but not least you can have a stats bar that you can open up and will be at the bottom of your screen, keeps a running tab on your current session. You can also choose mini-view, which shrinks the table down a lot, but can not adjust them how big or small you want. You can only choose tiny, big, or HUGE.
Hand histories are instantly available at the table, and you can also save them to your computer automatically. Then you can use Poker Tracker/HUDs to help while playing.

Hollywood Poker.com Poker Room Action
has some decent action. They have a lot of tables, and a lot of amount of players. There are always tables with 1 seat open just waiting for you. The players are pretty similar to most poker only sites. A lot of people learning the game, and are also drawn in by the Hollywood factor. You'll see some money thrown around in here. Most players are at the no-limit tables, but you can find some limit and Omaha donks sitting around. They don't accept US players so the peak time for the most action is late/early Eastern Time. They pretty much have a consistent number of players connected, around 15,000+ during peak hours.

Hollywood Poker.com Customer and Technical Support
Hollywood Poker's support was great. I used their live chat function built into their website and was greatly satisfied. I was chatting with a representative within seconds and they always had a quick answer to anything I was throwing at them. They even offered to help me setup my account and making a deposit, going over which bonus would be best for me. They also have an e-mail, which tends to be slower, but still decent. I recommend trying out their live chat if you have a quick problem.

Hollywood Poker's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
The game at the low levels seems pretty friendly to the bankroll. The people here are the ones who watch Celebrity Poker Showdown and want to play like Mimi Rogers. These are not people who watch the WPT or WSOP and aspire to be the next Doyle Brunson or Phil Ivey. Making money is fairly easy as long as you keep yourself disciplined. You won't experience a ton of bad beats here, as it seems most people are passive and know when to fold.
OnGame is known to being one of the fishiest sites out today, kind of like the good ole Party Poker days. Throughout all limits you will find donks who play waaaay too many hands, and seem to like donating money. The tables offered are 10 or 5 max, and most people don't know how to adjust to this if they're use to 9 max and 6 max (play can be quite different). If you like shorthanded you should be able to destroy the games.

Hollywood Poker.com Bonuses and Promotions
Here's another part of that is interesting. They have a total of 8 different initial deposit bonuses that you can choose from! Pick the one that suits your bankroll the best! None of these bonuses require a bonus code, so make sure you sign up through the links on this page.
I will go over how to earn them first, making it easier to choose which one you like. All of these bonuses require 8 points per bonus dollar, and are released in different increments based on the bonus you choose. They all expire in either 60 or 90 days, so if you take the large ones, be sure you will be able to clear them in time. They can take a long grind! For every $.10 you pay in rake, you earn fractions of points. They start at $.10 - $.19, which is worth .1 points, $.20 - $.29 .2 points, $.3 - $.39 .3 points, and so on up to $3+ for 3 points. You also earn 5 points for every $1 in tournament fees. You can increase the amount of points you earn by raising your VIP level.
First off, they have a MASSIVE Professional Player bonus of 1000% up to $5000 on your first deposit! This is the biggest bonus I have ever seen offered on any online poker site, up to $5000 free! With this, you also get a FREE iPod Shuffle, $320 tournament ticket, and Hollywood Poker girls calendar/deck of cards! These extra gifts are given to you after you clear the entire bonus. This bonus is released in increments of $1250, and requires 40,000 points before the whole thing is cleared. As you can see this is a LOT of points, so make sure you have the bankroll large enough to play at least mid stakes and a lot of time for 3 months. (Expires in 90 days).
Next they have a 500% up to $2000 Poker Maniac bonus! With this, they also give you a FREE iPod Nano, $162 tournament ticket, and Hollywood Poker girls calendar/deck of cards when you clear the full $2000! This is released in increments of $500 and requires 16,000 points. (Expires in 90 days).
If those 2 are too large, you can also take advantage of their 400% up to $1000 Poker Fanatic Bonus! As with the other bonuses, you will get free items when you clear it, including a FREE iPod Shuffle, $108 tournament ticket, and Hollywood Poker girls calendar/deck of cards! This bonus is released in $250 increments, and requires a total of 8,000 points. (Expires in 60 days).
The fourth bonus offered is a 300% up to $600 Poker Enthusiast bonus! Upon clearing the $600, you will also be given a free $54 tournament ticket and Hollywood Poker girls calendar/deck of cards! This is released in chunks of $200, and you need 4,800 points to clear. (Expires in 90 days).
There are also 4 other smaller bonuses offered, but I wouldn't recommend them. These are smaller and it is worth it to build up your bankroll until it is large enough for at least the fourth. These are all great and have their own advantages, some of the best bonuses offered anywhere! The only downside is they can take a LONG time to complete. Obviously, it makes more sense for the serious player to take up one of the larger bonus options because there is an opportunity to walk away with a lot of free cash. For the smaller stakes player just looking to test out this room, one of the smaller bonus options would be perfect.

“Hollywood Poker” by bombest, 26 Aug 2005 |
Interface: Action: Support: Fish: Bonus: |
I stumbled upon Hollywood poker
though a different poker advice
site. I was lured by the bonus.
I think Hollywood Poker is my favorite
poker site between partypoker (second
favorite), and pokerrewards (awful,
after I finish the bonus rakes I'm
never coming back. It has a lot to do
with their user agreement condemning
bonus chasers, like me).
I had some trouble with depositing
the money and had to call the customer
service line. The person was very
helpful. I had to call again, and was
answered quickly by another customer
service rep who answered all my
questions.
They have always had an actually
person watching the open room chat
lines. I remember "overhearing" about
someone rant about two players building
each other up in a money game. The
"watcher" told the "ranter" to send
an email with the names of the people.
I do not know what happened after, but
the fact that someone from the site
listened to a client spoke volumes to
me.
The 1000 bonus is both good and
bad. You get 50.00 for every 750 raked
hands. The bad; that's a lot of raked
hands. The good; Well you can see some
of your bonus earlier then another sight
where you get nothing until your 2000th
raked hand.
The poker rooms/software are
drawn in an above average fashion. (I
am a guy, and I appreciate the rather
volumptous blonde character on the upper
right side of the virtual room.) It
does not differentiate avatars so it is
basically where you sit, and not guy or
girl in that this or that spot.
There is also an option that lets
you choose if you want your table to pop
up and override all windows if its your
turn to act. Normally, you have no
control and if you are playing multiple
tables; one will pop up. I do not like
this. I can only handle four tables max
if I am trying to rake rush and it gets
hectic. Honest to goodness, I have
accidently folded pocket rockets, and a
nut straight flop. Over at hollywood
poker, you can turn the table pop ups
off (much rejoicing...yay).
I will continue to bonus chase but
when and if I run out of pokersites and
the bonuses they give when you sign up;
I intend to make hollywoodpoker my home
for recreational play. For profit play;
well, I am not good enough to be at that
point yet. Then again, if you are good
enough; I guess it doesn't really
matter. |
