Poker is a recent offering (04/08/2005) by www.gamesgrid.com, a site that has offered money play in backgammon since 1997. At GamesGrid Poker, you can choose to play limit and no-limit Texas Hold 'Em, limit and pot limit 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud High/Low, limit and pot-limit Omaha High, limit and pot-limit Omaha High/Low, and a dealer's choice game featuring limit Texas Hold 'Em, limit Omaha Hihg/Low, limit 7 Card Stud, limit 7 Card Stud High/Low, and limit Razz. Although there is a tournament section, the traffic is light at Games Grid, so there is rarely a tournament running.

Here are the GamesGrid Poker banking options:
Firepay
Neteller (including intaCASH)
Credit Card
ePassporte

Withdrawals are straightforward and usually are processed within 24 hours to Neteller. Other options may be faster or slower.

's software is pretty far behind that of most other poker sites. First, there are almost no options (as of 07/05/2005) to customize the interface for the individual player. There are no player icons, no four color decks, and no sound options. The player cannot change background colors, choose deck styles, or choose whether to show animations. The only selections a player can make are whether to auto post blinds, whether to auto-muck hands, and what information appears in the chat box.

Some of the software functionality is annoying. For example, the chat box, while scrollable, pulls the focus to the bottom whenever new information is inserted. That makes it practically impossible to review the action or player chat while a game is progressing. Perhaps the most annoying thing about the software is that the player posting the big blind must decide whether to post before the small blind decides. If the small blind sit out, the game will proceed without a small blind posted. In a full game, this is not a big deal, but in a shorthanded game, the big blind might prefer not to post if he knew the small blind were going to sit out. This is an issue for many player who will play, say, 5-handed, but would prefer not to play 4-handed or shorter. GamesGrid Poker does offer the ability to preselect your action, which is useful for multitabling, but some of the normally present options are missing. For example, there are no "Call Any" or "Raise Any" buttons. Although Hand Histories are available on GamesGrid Poker (from the Cashier page, of all places), they have drawbacks. The biggest drawback is that the hand histories are not e-mailed to you or automatically stored on your PC. This makes it difficult to automatically collect all your hand histories for a database. Another drawback is that only Texas Hold 'Em hand histories are available.

Player notes are available. GamesGrid Poker is a young site, and in the three months it has been operating, it has shown a willingness to make upgrades to the software. While the software does not have all the bells and whistles of other sites, it is not buggy, doesn't suffer from lag very often, and generally gets the job done. They have been responsive to player request for new features, such as waiting lists. The Dealer's Choice games are nice if you are particularly good at a game that others are not (like Razz). Few other sites, if any, offer Dealer's Choice.

The action at GamesGrid Poker is not what most players will be accustomed to. From what I can tell, the traffic at GamesGrid Poker consists primarily of multi-table players trying to collect bonuses and earn VFP pay (see the bonus section below for details). As a result, there are rarely more than a couple of tables (usually $2/$4 or $3/$6 limit Texas Hold 'Em) open during the day. At night there are usually many more tables running, usually between 10-20 tables at various stakes. Each week, GamesGrid announces a showcase game and stakes. Any VFP playing in these games earns double VFP pay (3 big blinds per hour), so the showcase games will have the largest number of players. Tournament action is very slow. There are rarely any Sit and Gos running. There are a few multi-table tournaments scheduled, but mostly the tournaments section is pretty dead on this site.

Support consists of a Frequently Asked Questions page and an e-mail address (support@gamesgrid.com). I have e-mailed support about adding a waiting list feature to the software, and I got a response within a few hours. Within a month this feature was added (though I am sure I wasn't the only player to ask for this feature at Games Grid). There is no live chat or telephone number prominently displayed. My limited interaction with support has been pleasant, and I believe they are committed to making the site better.

The players at GamesGrid Poker are typically multi-table bonus and VFP chasers. As a result, they are considerably tighter than the run of the mill players at other sites. In a full ring game, it is very unusual to see anything besides heads-up or three-way action. The most common error these players make is playing too weakly after the flop. The games here are basically blind stealing wars. For those of you who prefer to play against players who have somewhat of a clue, this is not a bad place.

Bonuses and promotions are where gets juicy, and they are the primary reason why I play at this site. GamesGrid Poker offers a 200% bonus up to $400 on your initial deposit. You may withdraw your deposit at any time. The bonus is best earned at relatively high stakes and full tables. The bonus is earned based on a points system. Points are awarded based on the following schedule:
rake points earned
$0.00 - $0.49 0.00
$0.50 - $0.99 0.25
$1.00 - $1.99 0.50
$2.00 - $2.99 0.75
$3.00 - 1.00
You are awarded points for any hand that you are dealt in. You do not have to contribute to the pot to earn points. From the table above, it is clear that bonus dollars are best earned at mid stakes ($3/$6 and above) where there is a better chance of a $3 rake. However, notice that the bonus is paid at $1 per 5 points, which is half as many points as most other sites. Bonus dollars are paid out nightly and in $1 increments, which is a departure from many sites.

Be sure to key in 'ttanaka' in the Promotion Code field when registering!

In addition to the bonus promotion, GamesGrid Poker has a Very Frequent Player (VFP) program. In this program, any player designated as a VFP earns a special bonus of 1.5x the big blind per hour (up to $12 per table) for any game in which he plays. The player must play ten table hours during the week to qualify for VFP pay. Ten hours may sound like a lot, but if you are able to play multiple tables, the time requirement is quite small (only 3.3 hours of real time if you play 3 tables at once). In addition, each week the site offers a set of showcase tables (for example, all $3/$6 limit Texas Hold 'Em tables) where the VFP's earn 3x the big blind. This is a great bonus, as it amounts to about 1.5 big bets per hundred hands at a full table (about 50 hands per hour) or 3 big bets at a showcase table. In addition to the 200% bonus, it is enough to turn a marginally losing player into a moneymaking player.

The VFP program is free to join. All you have to do is apply through the GamesGrid Poker website. VFP membership is limited, so you may have to wait to get accepted. Also, the site monitors your play, so if you miss several weeks, you may be removed from the program.

“GamesGrid is Toast” by ttanaka, 22 May 2007

Interface:  1/5   Action:  1/5   Support:  1/5   Fish:  1/5   Bonus:  1/5

Just revisited this place to see if it still exists. They had 9 players in the poker room... ugh. This site was pretty decent at one point. They never had a huge player base, but you could get in on some games. Now, it's a ghost town. Not sure what's going on, but I'd thougtht I'd update the review to let everyone know.

Interface:  4/5   Action:  1/5   Support:  1/5   Fish:  1/5   Bonus:  1/5

GamesGrid has really shrunk in its player base, its hard to find any action at all levels. The bonus is good, but hardly worth earning here in my opinion. As previously mentioned, the servers are not that reliable either. I think GamesGrid may be focusing on other games other than poker, very little promotion going on and I doubt GamesGrid will be able to survive as an online poker room.

“Avoid it!” by SpeakEasy, 20 Jul 2006

Interface:  3/5   Action:  1/5   Support:  1/5   Fish:  2/5   Bonus:  2/5

Forget the bonus offers! This site has an unreliable server. Even though there are almost never more than 80 to 100 players on at a time, the server regularly screws up. You will find yourself disconnected or timed out for no reason. If you complain to admin, they will blame your connection. This cant possibly be true because there are times where everyone gets disconnected at the same time. This has happened when there are as few as 30 players online. Other sites seem to have no trouble with 10s of thousands of players online but this one cannot handle a tiny amount! You will end up losing money because of server troubles. This may be the reason why longtime players such as myself no longe play there. Nothing has changed in months. Check the poker forums and newsgroup archives and you will see complaints about this site. Sad really as their interface is one of the best.

Interface:  4/5   Action:  1/5   Support:  3/5   Fish:  2/5   Bonus:  3/5

Games Grid is interesting, the software and interface is light-hearted and fun. Not enough traffic and games yet, though. I've only played the play money games, but have always kept my eye on the number of real money games going on. I agree with the other reviewer that it's worth checking out for the innovative software, but maybe only the play money games for now...

Interface:  5/5   Action:  3/5   Support:  5/5   Fish:  3/5   Bonus:  5/5

I signed up when GamesGrid announced the Mac client so I could play in the RGP open. Like the Chip Stacker said, this site is all about the bonus. Personally, I love the interface and think it's the best in the online poker world. Finally, someone has figured out that you don't have to mimick the real world in a computer environment. The action is best in the American evenings. The action then is good, other times it's less so -- although you can find a low-limit game 24/7. I used Tech support twice and got (correct) responses in less than 20 minutes both times. The ring games seem to be very tight and often devolve into blind stealing wars. lowboat is right, raise and win there. The no-limit games are insane. Wait wait wait until you get cards then bet bet bet. I consider these to be the best no-limit games on the 'net, but be VERY careful of the high-limit tables. There's not much tournament action, but the RGP Open will probably change that. Some things have changed since the original review (or were wrong then): They now have Pot Limit 7-Card Stud. There are many sound options. (Under the "Settings" button.) The small blind/large blind bug no longer exists. There is a $400 guaranteed tournament every night that (right now at least - 9/05) always has about $150 of overlay. They also currently have a Leaderboard promotion where you can win seats in a $4k tourney. I think everyone should try it -- even if it's just on freeplay, to see what a truly innovative computer application looks like.

“GamesGrid Rocks” by lowboat, 08 Aug 2005

Interface:  5/5   Action:  3/5   Support:  5/5   Fish:  4/5   Bonus:  5/5

Thanks for writing the review, but i think that JJDylan has the site pegged better: 1. The software is great, just different. 2. The tournament manager is the fastest and smoothest on any site online. RGP will host their entire 20 event RGP open on GamesGrid because only GG software could handle all the requirements (re-buys, special games, overnight breaks, etc). 3. The controls, colors and spacing are all well thought out and very playable. This system was designed by the guy was chief architect at Apple and ran the Mac OS System 7 release, so they know what they are doing. Sound options do exist (now). 4. GamesGrid offers many fun games not found on other sites, including a Dealers' Choice game that runs 24 hours. The added KC Lowball at the request of RGP and are running a lot of special private events for different forums. 5. Poker Room action. Bet and raise and you cannot lose. The games are generally tight-passive, except for some of the craziest $300NL games anywhere. 6. Bonuses. The 1,000% bonus clears quickly at mid limits, say 3-6 and higher. There is also the VFP program which is like another 50% rakeback (though it is not automatic entry any more, you need to bring some referrals to get in). 7. Atmosphere. GamesGrid tries to maintain a friendly and welcoming climate and the players are very supportive. I suggest that you give this new site a try (and make it long enough to get used to the novel interface). I think that this site is a comer.

 “earn $50/hr” by koolmoe, 09 Jul 2005

Interface:  2/5   Action:  1/5   Support:  4/5   Fish:  2/5   Bonus:  5/5

I started playing for the VFP pay and was earning about $56/hr before considering my win rate (2 3/6 tables and 2 5/10 tables earned $9+$9+$12+$12 with about $14 per hour in bonus collected). It's dropped since the VFP went to 1.5x the big blind, but if you focus on the showcase tables you can still earn a lot. FWIW, I think they fixed the BB/SB posting problem mentioned in the review.

Interface:  5/5   Action:  3/5   Support:  5/5   Fish:  3/5   Bonus:  5/5

I came across gamesgrid around the time of their opening, attracted by the 1000% bonus, and its the only site ive played on since. Yes, the interface is plain and simple, its not flashy but works great (no disconnects etc..) and im here for the poker anyways so its not an issue. Being such a new site the traffic is a little low, but ive found that the people on the site are very loyal to it and are trying to build it up. The games are tight, but after some time are very easy to beat because play is so predictable. The bonus' are amazing, youve read about them already. Customer service is the best ive come across, they're regularly changing things and adding games based on players emails and are very responsive to players needs. Other than the ordinary, gamesgrid offers games you might not find on other sites such as Dealers Choice, 7-2 Triple Draw and Pot Limit 7Stud. I think the only thing lacking with gamesgrid is high traffic, but believe that it will come once people take a chance on the site and get hooked like some of us already have.
