Nuts (Cool): |
|
New, and innovative idea. User-friendly interface. DuplicatePoker deemed a skill game trying to remove as much luck as possible. Can be a fun switch from normal texas hold'em games. Accepts US Players! |
|
Beats (Suck): |
|
While the theory sounds good, it may not apply as well (doesn't totally remove luck). Small player base. Very small stakes. Limited options of games to play. Limited funding options available - currently only credit cards. |

DuplicatePoker.com Review
is the very first online poker room to be deemed as a game of skill – due to their very unique, and very innovative system of play. They not only allow U.S. citizens to play upon their site – they encourage it. DuplicatePoker claims to eliminate the luck of the game, and increase the skill of it. DuplicatePoker is legal and safe to play on, with credit cards being the only source of deposits for the time being. They are of their own Network, with no one else sharing it.
DuplicatePoker has what has to be described as a very interesting concept. While you’re playing someone else at your own table, you’re actually competing against the other players that share your seat at other tables. How, you ask? Well, every table in a given tournament, or quick game (to be explained later in the review) has the same cards dealt to a seat on a table, and the same flops, turns, and rivers dealt out as well. DuplicatePoker’s claim to a more skilled game lies in the idea that everyone is on an equal playing field, as well you’re competing against the player at your table, you’re not really competing against him. You’re really competing against the other player(s) at the other table(s), as you get the same cards, from your hole cards, to the board cards. See the picture below which shows who I was competing against synergy at the other table.
In a given game, you are given a set number of deals, and then compared against the other players at the other tables, that shared the same seat as you. In the quick games, which are DuplicatePoker's version of cash games from $.40, to $15, however the $15 doesn’t fill up too often. You can have two to six players per table, with no more than 5 tables, and the amount of tables (and players) you compete against differs throughout the day. You then play four to eight hands, sometimes having to wait up to 15 – 25 seconds for the other table(s) to finish their street, as all hands begin at the same time. The betting system is capped at 1,000 chips per hand, and the amount of chips you start with is according to the amount of hands played in the game. For example, if you are playing 8 hands, you’ll have 8,000 chips, 7,000 chips for 7 hands, and so on. This ensures that no one is ever at a disadvantage due to stack sizes. At the end of the set of deals, you’re compared against the other player(s) in the seat that corresponds to yours, and the player who ends with the most chips is awarded the buy in paid by every player that shared the same seat number as you. One problem with these games however is that while they are deemed “quick games”, they may be a bit too quick to measure skill. Other than that, they’re very fun, and skill does indeed win out in them. Also, it should be noted that these games are Pot Limit Hold ‘Em, not No Limit.
One of the limitations of the system DuplicatePoker utilizes is that cash games are virtually impossible, as then it would perhaps be able to collude with another player. While their system is very innovative, the absence of cash games will be harmful to their player base. It should be noted that their ring games are not ring games in the classical sense, as there’s never really any real cash being used on the table. However, this is their version of ring games.
However, one of the many bonuses of playing on DuplicatePoker is that just for signing up, you get $3, free! You’re able to start your very own bankroll, without ever depositing a dollar! (More on this later).
Despite the lack of games held on most popular sites, DuplicatePoker offers an extremely unique experience in that it lets players play without worrying about the luck side of the game – this game relies on a great deal of skill. It’s also a great place for a beginner to start. It’s safe, secure, and legal as well.

Duplicate Poker's Software Interface/Usability
DuplicatePoker is very easy to play on, and very simple. There’s virtually no confusion whilst navigating the site. The lobby is very navigate between games and types. But it is recommended that you watch the tutorial video when installing the DuplicatePoker software. I say this because knowing the difference between Quick Play, Tournaments, and Sit & Go is actually quite different than normal poker sites. The opening video explains everything fairly well and after playing a few times you should understand the different concepts between these games and any normal poker games. The loading times when bringing tables up, is very, very quick. However, there are a few beats.
For one, you can’t resize the table. At all. This causes a problem for anyone who wishes to multitable. The tables are the "standard" size that you will see at most sites, so 4 will fit at 1600x1200 with no overlap. Also, you are unable to view players at other tables, whether it be within the quick play games, the tournaments, or sit & gos. I guess this is to prevent collusion or some form of cheating by seeing how the person you are playing against is doing. Not being able to observe or rail is pretty disappointing, but pretty seems like it is necessary.
However, the biggest annoyance I ran into is the "Please wait for other tables to progress" message (see below screen shot). While playing, you can have 4 or more tables all competing against each other. All of these tables have the same cards dealt to the same seats, and the same community cards come. So in order to prevent cheating or having a buddy tell you what is coming, every table has to wait until all tables complete that betting round; every single time. So let's say you're on a fast table, 3 folds to you and the bb walks. However, you end up having to wait anywhere from 30-60+ seconds for the next hand to be dealt. It is like hand for hand every single hand, except worse, which is very very frustrating. Perhaps these are things that will change in the future, which will definitely improve the quality of the interface a ton.
Duplicate Poker Table "Please Wait" Message
Other than these annoying flaws, it’s very, very easy to navigate your way around this poker site. Figuring out how to play is the hardest part, but once you do that, it should come easy. Overall, does Duplicate Poker totally eliminate the luck factor? No. There are so many other things than cards which effect how lucky/unlucky you are. For example, you're unlucky if you're seated with 4 other people who are good, when the other table is full of donks. Also, you're unlucky if someone at your table decided to play 73 off suit and cracked your AA whereas at the other table the guy with AA doubled up. It's impossible to totally eliminate luck, but it's a fun new innovative idea! I recommend trying it out!

Duplicate Poker.com Poker Room Action
The action is a lot scarcer than some will be able to handle, as this is still a relatively new site, with a concept never seen before. With consistently under 1,000 players on at any time, there’s a lack of viable games a lot of times. As I’ve mentioned, the lack of true cash games definitely hurt, but the quick games are the most popular attraction on the site, their version of ring games.
The tournaments don’t offer a great range of buy-ins to play, but do offer variations of the general concept of DuplicatePoker. These tournaments get between 5-50 players, using the pot limit, capped system until they get down to 6 players, where capped no limit kicks in.
One problem is that the game offers no other games than No Limit and Pot Limit Hold ‘Em, which does limit the amount of action that one can find on the site.
The Sit N’ Goes range from $.40+.00 up to $25+2, but are the least popular attraction on DuplicatePoker. Anything past the $.40 range can take a very long time to fill, which can be a hindrance on your gaming experience.

DuplicatePoker.com Customer and Technical Support
For a relatively new site on the block, DuplicatePoker offers a very accessible support system, with two easy, viable options. You can either directly mail them at customercare@duplicatepoker.com, or you can use the support form on their website.

Duplicate Poker's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
Due to the low limits being the only option at DuplicatePoker, you should have little to no problem being able to crush the games on there. Very loose play is prevalent, as it is a site that attracts beginners to the game. With a site that offers no higher game than $33, you can be sure that the majority of players you come up against will not have a great deal of experience, so with proper bankroll usage, solid play, and some time, you should be able to do extremely well on DuplicatePoker.
