888poker Highlights

  • 100% Initial Deposit Up to $400. $100 is allowed to be immediately wagered! -- Automatic bonus with our links!
  • NUTS: 888poker (formerly Pacific Poker) has one of the softest player bases found online today. In the past 888poker tended to attract only fish because you could only play one table at once. While 888 Poker now offers the ability to play 16 tables at once, the site still does not attract many grinders. 888 Poker offers a wide variety of stakes and games, from $1 buy-in games all the way up to $10,000. The 100% up to $400 deposit bonus is a good way to build your roll in a hurry.
  • BEATS: Since 2006 888poker has not been open to US Players. 888poker finally adjusted its multi-tabling capabilities but is still far behind the times. Slower, out-dated software and a lack of options hold the site back from being one of the world’s best. Finally, their VIP System has been updated but doesn’t hold up to sites like FullTilt and PokerStars.

888poker Room Review

888poker Overview

Launched in 2002, was once a fairly high flyer on the US online poker scene. Like many other poker rooms, 888poker (formerly known as 888 Pacific Poker) responded to the threats of the UIGEA in late 2006 by banning US players. This cut off nearly half of its revenue. The suspension of US customers was anticipated by management, which wisely started building up the non-US player base prior to implementation, helping it to weather the storm.

Worldwide, 888 Poker usually ranks in the top 15 rooms for player traffic, occasionally cracking the top 10 at peak times. As part of 888 Holdings PLC, owners of Casino-on-net.com and Reef Club Casino, 888 Poker also benefits from a certain amount of cross-traffic from the casino side of the business and its roughly 170,000 registered player accounts. Top poker players feel this boosts 888's fish factor considerably. To date, 888 has been reporting fairly stable net gaming revenues from its poker operation, which probably means players can count on 888poker being around for a while.

888 Poker offers Pot-limit games of Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi/Lo, as well as No-limit and Pot-limit Texas Hold'em in ring games, Sit and Go, and Multi-Table Tournaments. The room also offers Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo.

888 also has its gimmicks – probably most popular with casino players – otherwise known as Bad Beat and Royal Jackpot tables (under the “Jackpots” tab). Hitting the jackpot on a Bad Beat table requires getting Four-of-a-Kind 8s or better crushed at showdown, while the Royal tables pay you off if you hit any four of a kind or a better hand. A Royal Flush of Spades wins you 100% of the Royal Jackpot. For poker purists keeping tabs on their rake these tables should probably be no-play zones, but there’s an argument to be made for the higher rake being counterbalanced by increased fishiness.

Players of all skill levels will be able to find a game suitable to their bankrolls. Cash games start as low as $.01/$.02 blinds and go up to $50/$100 for No-Limit and $250/$500 for Limit games. SNGs start as low as $.50 and go all the way up to $750+$35.

Poker Room Review Be careful by Vengeance on 11 Aug 2008

Hi all I've played on Pacific poker for some time, but recently some strange and very unpleasant things has happened. I get an e-mail from them telling me that my ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BLOCKED. The explanation is that they are claiming that I've won funds from players who have intentionally lost money. (!!!) Now, first of all, I wonder, why should anyone ever use that kind of means to transfer money, (dumping) when there's a million of other (better) possibilities? I've supported myself from poker for some time, and I never really had to do any fishy stuff. I never did. Pacific Poker are not able to offer any kind of proof, they are just repeating their yadayada. As it seems now, I've lost several thousand dollars, and looking at my most unpleasant incident ever as a poker player. Their interface is truly terrible, and I've only played there due to the generally lower level of the players. Now I'm wondering whether it was really worth it...! You're obviously free to form your own opinion, but I would advise you to be careful. Unless you want to sue them, there's nothing to be done when Pacific suddenly decides to block your account and collect your money.

I have read some of the responses and I don't know what you are talking about. This is the best place to get a sign up bonus because you don't have to do anything to get it!!! :) All you have to do is deposit and you immidiatly get the sign in bonus- no need to play a set of hands or bet an amount of money to get it. one of the best poker rooms I am playing on today...
Poker Room Review Ongoing problems by Islander on 12 Feb 2007

While the games are "easy" the frequent disconnections and technical problems override any advantages and can make playing on Pacific extremely frustrating. I stopped playing there for almost four months and then decided to try again to see if the problems had been corrected. I lasted less than 10 minutes in a tournament before I was disconnected and my cards were folded. I re-booted and again, my hand was folded. It appears that nothing has been done and the same problems are going on at Pacific.
