PokerStars, world’s largest online poker site, has achieved worldwide renown due to all its tournaments. One of the first regular tournaments with a guaranteed prize pool PokerStars had on its roster was the Sunday Million.
The Million, staying true to its name, was one of the first online tournaments which would guarantee a 7 figure prize pool since day one. It was originally a $200+15 buy-in tournament. Sometime during last year, PokerStars would up the ante every last Sunday of the month by increasing the buy-in and the guarantees. The buy-in would then be $500+30, and the guarantee would be upped to $2 Million. PokerStars no longer does this, because there is now the Sunday 500, which is a separate weekly tournament, held on Sundays which has its own $500+30 buy-in.
The PokerStars Sunday Million has been filled with prestige and history making ever since its inception. Since it is such a popular tournament, its field is always filled with the most famous online poker faces, including many of PokerStars own pro’s, such as Dario Minieri, Victor Ramdin, Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Vanessa Rousso, Humberto Brenes, Raymond Rahme, Hevad “RainKhan” Khan and Isabelle Mercier. On the non-PokerStars pro front, you have big guys like Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, Etushekki (who final tabled the million like 3 times consecutively in the summer of ’08), Spacegravy, Sooners, ch0ppy, WestMenloAA and Jovial Gent. It’s a tough tough field, but because the field is so big, you might just get a free ride all the way to the final table.
And this is exactly the appeal of the PokerStars Sunday Million, aside from its guaranteed 7 figure prize pool which is now at $1,500,000 every Sunday and average field of about 7500 players. Anybody can get in and win big. There are all sorts of satellites for this event running around the clock, and you can even use the step 4 tickets to buy into the event. Satellites are available for cash buy-ins, but you can also win your seat for free using your FPP credits. Anybody can play, and even if there may be tough players in the field, the field is so huge that you will find your fair share of truly donkish players. You never know when it will be your time to be in the spotlight.
And what a spotlight it is. At the final table of the PokerStars Sunday Million, a PokerStars representative will be on hand to congratulate you and help you facilitate any deals that may rise. That’s right, you can make deals at the final table to help lessen your variance. Any deals that may be made, however, must leave 30K on the table for the eventual winner though. Oh, and I almost forgot: the play at the final table will be recorded and broadcast on the Online Poker Show on PokerStars.tv. Every week the show will feature highlights from the world's biggest tournament, with commentary from poker experts such as Nick Wealthall and David Tuckman. All you have to do is log in PokerStars.tv and look for the dedicated Sunday Million channel, and you will be entertained for ages. Your performance will be recorded for posterity (if you make the final 9, that is).
