Now that you know how to change the standard themes from the PokerStars lobby, we're going to add custom table themes. If you don't know how to change the standard themes, you can read more about that on our
PokerStars Skins page. Adding a custom table theme to PokerStars really isn't that much more difficult, except that you have to find the theme you want, then download it and install it.
So let's start by finding a custom theme. For this example I am going to use this
FTR theme available for free, made by Bar Nuthin, who runs the PSThemes site. First, make sure you close the PokerStars client or the theme will not install correctly.
To install this theme just click the download button on the forum post. These instructions are made using Windows Vista, so for another OS this process may be slightly different until it is downloaded and installed. You will then get the "save file" pop-up.
After you save the file and it downloads, go to wherever you save your downloaded files (likely it will be start menu>>User [your name]>>Downloads) and double click the file. You will have to allow the program to run on Vista. You will then get a pop-up that says to install the theme only one time. Just click "Yes". Follow the prompts until you get to where you choose the destination for the files. Here you choose the location where your PokerStars main file is located. Vista users may have to select Program Files (x86) to find the right location. Then click next.
That's it! Now your file is downloaded and you are ready to use the theme. Now, open up the PokerStars client. Just like before, from the Main Lobby, click "View", then select "Table Themes". Now, on the menu of themes, you should have one that says "Flop Turn River".
When you click on "Flop Turn River" you get a message that says, "This theme requires 'Shiny Theme' to be installed." This is because PokerStars allows users to build custom themes, but they all use one of the standard themes as a base. So, we simply need to select "Shiny Theme" and click install.
Once the Shiny Theme is installed, we can go back to the "Flop Turn River" them and click "Apply". Then open up a table and admire your beautiful new, custom FTR table!
