Some of the guys I play with are notorious for playing way too many hands. They try to limp in with anything and will even call most raises preflop unless they are huge.

My strategy against them in the past has been to raise large preflop if I have anything and try to teach them a lesson. Problem is I'll end up getting burned by the rags a few times and then have to tighten right up inorder to stay in the game.

If more guys used this strategy then I'm sure they would learn that its not profitable to play 74o against guys who are raising with good hands preflop. However I'm outnumbered by all these limpers and when I do raise big I'll either make everyone fold and only win the blinds or have 5 or 6 callers! Inevitably somebody cracks my pair or has me beat.

Any help on how to deal with being outnumbered by all the limpers would be appreciated.

you're going to have to loosen up and tighten up at the same time. doesn't that make a lot of sense!

- early on - when the blinds are cheap, if you can limp in a strong potential straight/flush draw, do it. the payoff could be big if you hit your hand.

- middle portion to on the bubble - tighten up and wait for a monster. hopefully you've gotten a few chips, and can just sit back while others get a little crazy dealing with the increasing blinds.

- in the money - become ultra aggressive on the hands you play, but choose them carefully. although, they don't have to be premium hands since you're down to 3 or 4.

anytime you do get a good "disguised" hand (e.g. a set), trap, trap, trap! lead them along with reasonable bets, and then hit them hard on the river. by this point, they'll (hopefully) feel pot committed and call your big bet.

good cards!

I've commented on this phenomenon in the party poker sngs.

DO NOT TRY TO BECOME THE HERO OF THE TABLE AND TEACH THEM A LESSON.

Reason: There are so many of them doing it that one of them is bound to catch something.

Play tighter than normal. Play super super tight. Let them play russian roullette with each other. By the middle of the tournament, 1 or 2 of them will be knocked out, and the other one will have their chips. You won't have the chip lead but getting to the middle and late levels of the tourney consistently is a much better feeling. You'll need some luck to win it at that point, but this is the only way I know how to compete with those types of players.
