    Default Three hands ...

    Hey guys!

I'm posting here 3 hands from a tournament I did last night on PokerStarts.
They are in sequential order, but not directly one after the other

    Hero: ???

I always have a problem with pocket Qs.Specially when the board come Axx! But I guess everyone does also ...
When I get them early in the tourney, I say to myself: "Damm, I'm going to loose money"

Should have I bet more pre-flop? Should I call? For me the small re-raise, says: "I have AA/KK/AK or maybe AQ!"
Even though, after this hand it seemed that genevadad was the kind of guy, that says: "don't mess with me" ...
Do think the guy did it for that reason?

    -----Hand 2-----
    Hero's M = 11.29
    PokerStars Game #6108546821: Tournament #30628825, $2.00+$0.20 Hold'em No Limit - Level V (75/150) - 2006/08/30 - 15:42:48 (ET)

    bigricky: folds
    Pennanti: folds
    rd2121: folds
    cluless is connected
    Hero: raises 600 to 900
    Da Fiddler: folds
    JT_n_ Vegas: raises 580 to 1480 and is all-in
    Hero: ????

This, I think, is a typical hand of KK. I got lucky, that someone raised pre-flop, so I go on top of him. But he goes all-in afterwards. Now, the only hand that beats me (in theory of course ) is AA. For me this was very unlikely and online in low buy-in tournemants sometimes I see this with TT. Is your move all-in?

    -----Hand 3-----

Having an M of 4.7, for me this was a clear push, furthemore, everyone had folded to me and only 3 players were left to act. Would you push?

    Thanks for the help!

All these hands are fairly basic.

The first hand is an easy fold. Two overcards to your pair it's likely your QQ isn't good. So let them go.

Second hand, what's the problem here? Do you really have a problem getting your money in with the second best hand? I get my chips in anytime during a tournament with that hand. Don't be afraid to lose.

Third hand, push. You need chips and you can't wait around forever. Go for the gold.

The reason I've posted hand 2 and 3 is simply, because in:
    - hand 2, I pushed, the other guy showed AA and I lost 2/3 of my chips ...
    - hand 3, I pushed, the other guy showed KQ and won.

As I'm still a beginner, I wanted to make sure I did the right thing.

    Thanks!

That's just the way it goes. Sometimes you make the right plays and lose.

Right, Never let the results of a hand make you think you misplayed the hand. You played it well and that's all that matters.

QJos is not a hand that I like to push with shortstacked because you are likely to have coverage by anyone who calls you. What I mean is you are likely to face one fo the following AK,AQ,AJ,KQ,KJ 22+ or AXs. I can't think of a hand that calls this with less then one of these hands. Personally I like to have AX when I push late, any pockets, or low-mid suited conectors. 98s is a good pushing hand, as you probably have two clean outs if your not up against 88+. Just my thought on the situation for hand 3, the other two were played exactly like I would.

I have to agree, I'm not exactly a mathmetician, but in my experience there have been too many times when QJ is dominated by anyone calling an all in, friends of mine like to refer to it as the 'hang myself hand' I would feel much safer pushing with possibly the best hand in an Ax situation, rather than having the possibility that K2 can easily beat me as with QJ.

As for the first hand with QQ, I just recently started playing tourneys avidly, and the best peice of advice I have picked up, is to never get into trouble in the early blinds... sometimes lay things down that may not be so easily mucked any other time for the sole purpose of gaining a chip stack instead of crippling your entire tournament on one mis-read.
Riv•er•stars (riv`er`stärs), n., adj. 1. A pathetic name used by incompetent poker hopefuls as an excuse for someone catching a hand better than theirs. Other variants: Jokerstars
