Thinking on how we could do this..

If we get 40 people and like 7 are good teachers, we could break the rest of the fishies under one teacher for a study group. Then the teachers themselves could have a study group that meets to discuss the more difficult hands of a session or just enjoy each others company. I'm sure players like trikflow and myself would be interested in learning from ilikeaces or dav if either decides to toss hop in on this.

It'll be a trickle down effect of sng awesomess.

The following box does not apply right now, I didnt delete it in case we decide to switch back to groups, in which case it will be used as a starting point.

    Code:
Here is the rough draft for groups right now. This is subject to change, please feel free to PM me if you want to switch groups. If you cant make either of the groups, there will likely be a third when more people respond. I decided they should all be on Pstars, but it might not matter depending how it is run. Perhaps, everyone will be in a chat room, while the teacher plays an SnG and everyone else watches and discusses. Therefore, even people without Stars accounts can still download the software and watch.

As for teachers, i'm still waiting for Aces, and davsimon to reply. Rilla also said he wouldnt mind teaching so that is possible.

The groups were mainly based on stakes, but also for availability.

my two if you don't mind.

For lack of a better real world example, run this like classes at a gym.

Whoever the teachers are should just have a set time once or twice a week where they can
'hold class" and anyone who wants to can join in and watch. Maybe the teacher then posts/emails their entire HH with comments and then everyone discusses from there.

Might be easier than coordinating a bunch of strangers, and gives people who miss the specific time to still participate. Comments, anyone thinks this is a good idea, but can improve it?

    E.G.
rilla plays at Stars every Tuesday and Thursday at 9pm ET
Simon plays PP every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:30 Central, etc....

I'm assuming these sites all have player searches, so locating their table shouldn't be hard.

    Tuesdays are no good.
I will happily volunteer to play a $55 SnG on the weekend while people watch and berate me.
As far as chat rooms, most of us have IRC, it would be easy to open a room there.

dont think i have the time to "teach" a class....and it seems there is a ton of 5-20 dollar sng players here....... That being said....i would also be willing to let people watch me play a 55 or 109.......
  24. #24
Stakes I normally play at: 55-215 (depending on how many tables etc etc)
Times: I'll adjust to your times...but preferably not eastern evening (I'm in sweden and that's middle of the night)
    Sites: Pacific and Party.

I'd prefer these sngs to be at lower stakes. Max 55.

Thats why you need a mic that just sits on your desk to talk with. And just let my beautiful voice flow out your speakers.

Rubix, I like your ideas. I think the way to go would be to set a time, and get Ilikeaces, trikflow, davsimon, rilla, maybe even some others, then watch them play an SNG and in a chat room we can all discuss.

I am starting to think that breaking it down into groups wouldnt be the right way to go, perhaps we could just hold open classes?

Also, should we use MIRC? Is there a way to start a room on the side of the FTR room that only the people watching the SnG would use? If not perhaps we could just make an AIM chat room.

We could also set up a private tourney on Stars, then afterward condense the Hand histories so that we can post the entire tourney with all players hole cards and analyze the play.
I have always wanted to do this... I just need 9 people who are willing to e mail me their Hand histories after the tourney.

The problem with this is i am going to make a lot more "plays" so to speak and would not be playing typical ABC sng poker. I would be trying my best to own you guys and look like a donkey in the process.

Not sure if this exists, or is possible, but it'd be great if FTR SNG forum had some kind of real time chat room (Isn't this where all those internet sexual predators hang out). People could just log in and either find out where someone is playing and the watch/discuss, or if no one is playing offer to start a game and have anyone who shows up critique.

So say I sign in at 7:30 and I see that 'rilla is holding court on a game he started 10 minutes prior. A couple other people are watching him play, I find out what table he's at, watch and we all dicuss

    or.

I sign in and see nobody's playing/teaching. So I start up a game. Then Gabe stops by and sees pathetic little me struggling, so he decides to give a few pointers while I ride out the late game. Some other fish sign in as well, and we all watch and learn.

It's open source poker tutoring. Now, anyone know how to set up one of these real time chat rooms?

This list is being populated very fast. Only problem is that it will be impossible to get everyone together in a chat room to discuss, heres what I think.

Rilla and trikflow, you are the only people who have said they would teach, if one of you could pick a time (Tuesday at 9:30 or Saturday at 9:00 preferably) and play an SnG, we will all watch then discuss afterwards. Please let everyone know and we will all decide on a meeting place. Either IRC, AIM, or another chat room someone knows of. hell we could have two people join a HU ring game and sit out, then we will all talk at the table.

It will offer a place to start, and we can also talk aout possibilites of making a private tourney and cobining hand histories.

It would be great if one of you can specify a time and date, then we can have our first "meeting"

notes- dont worry which group you wewre placed in, if we decide to split into groups that will be done at a later date
also, if any of the other FTR greats would like to teach please let us know

Sorry for putting any of you on the spot, but based on their insightful posts and forum presence, I'd think VQ, Triptanes, Jeff..., Dwarfman, and "Dragon Guy" (sorry, couldn't find your handle), are all capable of mentoring any of us fish.... Whether or not they're interested is another matter.

The only reason I'm hesitant to sign up for the group thing in general as well as agree to this is that I'm wicked-busy these days (who was it that warned me this summer against thinking I'd have free time once I started grad school?). I get in a dozen SnGs at most on a good week - half that on a bad one. Spreading my time even more thin just doesn't seem realistic.
    I run a training site...
