Default Questions to Those Who Play MTT For a Living

I mostly play 180 mans now a bit. 180 mans definitely has lot of downswings and upswings and having 200 buyin up or downswings is very common. I'm not sure but i believe having 500 buyin downswing could be possible for a winning player at 180s. The thing about 180s is you can definitely go on a long downswing but you could also have big upswing as well but with 180 mans, you can't really win that much money. From looking at sharkscope... it doesn't appear that even the top regs make that much.

I know this forum has lot of ppl that play mtts only. My questions i have for these are this.

    1. How many tables do you typically play a day and at once. I heard that most ppl who play mtt should never play more than 16 table at the very max. I heard between 8-12 is the best. However if thats the case, how do you get much volume then? Im curious how much tournaments does someone who play mtt only full time a month plays. Im guessing something like 500 tournaments a month?

    2. When you play mtt... typically how long do you start and end your session? Obviously you want to go long because that would mean you go deep. Im curious how everyones schedule would be like for this and if someone could tell me how their schedule would be like. Such as okay start grinding at 9am or 2pm depending on your time zone.

    3. This is the one thing that makes me not want to play mtt. At least with 180 mans, after few hours or end of day, i know that if i play 2 straight weeks, i know it would be hard for me to not profit even 2-3 days. For MTT.... its like you aren't making any money until you are deep in a tournament. A min cash is pretty useless since you don't even get your original buyin back. Yes getting down to the final 100 should give a decent amt back but it isn't more than 8 times maybe of your buyin? It seems like unless you have any final tables or top 3, mtt are very hard to make money. Also i read lot of ppl talk about downswings. For someone that woudl play say $11-$55 tournaments, how do you handle when you brick 25 tournaments for the day and it repeats like this for 2 weeks. Obviously thats a very low sample because assuming you play say 6 days a week, that would be 300 tournaments in 2 week which is small sample. But say you brick every tournament for the day and are down $500 in buyins let say. Then you do this for the next 2 weeks. You would be down $6000 in 2 weeks. And if you ever want to win money... its a long process b/c its a tournament. Its not like cash game or sng or even 180 man mtt where you could win 500 for the day etc.

    4. Im curious but is there anyone that mainly plays turbo MTT only and rarely plays any MTT because of how long it takes? Thus play all the turbo mtt since those take much shorter time? In a way its like a 180 man since its a turbo but of course much more players. I did read that roi's in these are very low so thus no one does this?

    5. Can someone who play mtt for a living online and plays low-mid stakes post how their typical daily and weekend schedule would look like? I assume this isn't asking for a lot? I would assume it would include all the bigs and turbos etc but curious what other tournaments you play. Also would be curious of high stake mtt players and their schedule.

    6. For High Stakes MTT players... im curious but whats the average amt of tables you play at once and average a month. Obviously theres much lesser high stake mtt going on compared to mid and low stakes. So i assume you rarely get more than 300 tournaments a month at the most? The other thing is this. I noticed lot of those pokerstars pros who play high stakes and mid stakes mtt... very few of them play more than 8 table max. Lot of them play 3-6 tables only. I know many of those ps pros dont play online mtt for a living because with the volume they put, it wouldn't be possible. But for those that high stake mtt players that play for a living and don't rely on pokerstars contract etc... im curious are there any of you that play more than 12 table? I would guess 8 probably should be the max since you can't play autopilot right? Compared that to mid and low stakes where doing that is considered standard. Also how does one continue playing high stake mtt when they go on a downswing? I know many ppl sell shares and are backed but assuming you play everything on your own dime... i mean 2 weeks of bricking everything in say stakes from $55 to $215 tournaments... that is a lot of money and you could be down $15000 pretty quickly in 2 weeks.

    7. To those that play many tables say 20 tables... I assume almost everyone of you are going to be playing pretty tight right? Are there any lags that play that many tables? I would say its hard to play a loose style if you are playing 20 tables. I seen some players that play 180 mans and they play that amt and are definitely tight. Is it wrong for me to say its hard to play a loose style assuming you are playing 12 tables at once? Because it seems lot like of players are autopilot unless they are playing 8 tables or less which i assume. Is that good or bad assumption.

    8. Is there a reason why mtt players don't play cash or another format like sngs? I heard lot of tournament players would have trouble beating low stakes cash game a while back. Is that statement still accurate today? I believe i read even high stakes tournament players would probably do just okay at 100 or 200nl online and most would not be able to beat 400nl. I believe i read that quite a few would have issues with 200nl and maybe even 100nl. And that many low stakes mtt players wouldn't be able to beat 100nl. Would you agree on this. I always recall throughout the years, people mention that tournament players play tournaments because they would get destroyed playing cash.

    Thanks!

Another thing but is there anyone that plays satellites only for T$ on stars? Or is that basically impossible to do now. I do know satellites many years ago are thus more softer than regular tournaments.

"8. Is there a reason why mtt players don't play cash or another format like sngs?"

At least sngs or multitable sngs like 180mans they play as "filler tournaments" in their daily grind.

MTTs are insanely soft. You have a high ratio of fish in them. The trade off is the variance, the hours, and (sometimes) the hourly.

If you are looking for a game that pays you on a consistent basis, don't play MTTs. You can go months without making money, even if you play full time and have a good edge.

I don't think that in MTT 180 men a player can have that big of an edge nowadays, as most of players at the table know the standard push/fold move which is the core game of turbo tourney. Only when deep stack the edge is significant. So I do not expect to have good ROI with turbo tourneys.
