Hi everyone, i'm new around here but i've read most of the posts and i'm very impressed with the quality of the discussion around these parts.
What i'd like to ask about is how to play heads up, specifically when you get to heads up at the end of a SNG tournament. I can usually get in the last 3 but hardly ever win. This applies for no limit and limit, though i'm trying to avoid limit at present. I'm only playing very low stakes so the opposition aren't anything special.
Any general tips?
What i tend to do is play most hands at the end and raise with group 1-3 hands before the flop. I might be chasing straights too much or maybe i just need more practice, i've only been playing in the net for a month or two.
I've seen it written that if your opponent checks you should always raise but i've found playing hyper aggressive isn't really my style and i tend to lose.

In general, 3 or fewer opponents:
Play fewer drawing hands
Play more made hands
Lower your starting requirements for hands
Play your stack. If you have enough chips, use the 'all-in' move a few times to earn some blinds. If you don't have enough, fold fold fold and try to outlast them.
Don't always raise with good cards. Let them try to raise you out, then put them all in.
Flop play is extremely important. Remember that your opponent likely missed his flop. Bet accordingly.

Any pair is a pretty good hand.
Two pair is a monster.
All but ignore suits. Avoid 2s, 3s and 4s, otherwise just about any face card is good.

the story of my life!
every time i review my hand history from then final three in an SNG tourney, i realize i wasn't aggressive enough.
that k7o that i folded without a second thought 15 minute before now is a potentially strong hand.
ditto what the others said.

I think what ripptyde said is good.
I have had pretty good success when it comes to 1 on 1 in the SNGs. I think I may have lost once (but I really had to go pee!). I generally feel like I don't want to give them any room to breathe. If I am playing a hand I raise pre-flop. After the flop if he re-raises and I don't have anything I get out. If I'm not willing to bet the hand after the flop I don't play it. I also try to change gears a lot and raise with rags.
Mostly though, I never ever want them to get a free card.

Thanks, i was hoping Ripp would see this post as i know he thrives on making opponents make difficult decisions. That game was impressive, I'll have to see if i can emulate it.
