After Random_Hero started his Operation I decided I need some sort of stability to keep me on track.

I need to get back to basic ABC Poker. Focus is a big thing for me, because I do not have that much free time I don't study or review my HH's as much as I should and I think posting regularly in my own thread will give me more dedication to learning the game.

I am in the middle of a huge downswing- I don't know the numbers because I don't keep track of them- which is one of the things I am going to be tackling. But if I had to guess I have placed ITM about 5-10 times in my last 25-30 SnG's.

I need to start getting better at ICM and controlled aggression- overall I think I have been either playing too passive or spewing too much.

In this thread I will post:
1. At least one hand every night where I think I played poorly
2. At least one hand that I had a hard decision
3. One hand I think I played well

Occassionally I will post full HH's and HH's from different sections of the SnG (ie. Bubble, early on, ITM, Heads Up)

Goals
1.)Get my roll to $1000
2.) Find where I am playing poorly and fix it
3.) Get a good handle on ICM and push/fold poker
4.) Get better at putting opps on ranges
5.) Get better at getting reads
6.) Stay focused and patient

I plan to play as much as possible- and play every weeknight. Some days I cannot play at all for instance next weekend I will not be posting Friday or Saturday because I will be in Milwaukee for Summerfest (a huge concert) with my gf.

A hopeful goal is 10 games a week, maybe more, maybe less.

I also might try a microstake donkafest here and there.

I will update as much as possible. Wish me luck.

And thanks to Random_Hero for starting an Operation and get me inspired to do the same.

Current Bankroll 140.68

I dont know what you usually play, but I've found the turbos great for when I'm short on time. You can squeeze one in before bed without having a late night like a normal might do.

Similar bankroll to me, and Random Hero is playing the same stakes, so it'll be interesting to keep track of both.

Do you single table? I find my reads are so much better. I also make sure to take notes of interesting plays. It may not give you a read, but it can give you some idea. For instance if someone limps AK early, that goes in a note. Doesnt mean they always slowplay big hands, but its a pointer.

Good luck!
Just playing to improve.

Yea I usually play the 6.50's.

I was up to around 300, but I transfered $70 to my father as a present (just starting out) and I lost the rest- horrible play and cards.

I almost always single table, but there is always noise-music or conversation or tv-when I play, I can't get away from it.

P.S.- Can anyone link that site to make those operation sig's?

Good luck Zee. From the tourneys you've posted and your replies to others' hands I can see you're more than good enough to beat the $6.50s.

ok first day and I took 7th and 2nd. Still in the downswing- just not making good plays and getting good opportunities. Here is a tricky hand I have no idea how to play.

Villain (UTG+1) was maniacal and raising huge almost every hand. He only showed down one hand and it was a set that ran into a straight.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

BB (t1480)
UTG (t3760)
UTG+1 (t860)
MP1 (t1750)
MP2 (t1390)
CO (t1410)
Button (t1350)
Hero (t1500)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q, A.
UTG calls t30, UTG+1 raises to t60, 3 folds, Button raises to t90, Hero raises to t210, 1 fold, UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to t330, Button calls t240, Hero calls t120.

Flop: (t1050) 4, K, J (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets t530 (All-In), Button folds, Hero folds.

Final Pot: t1580

No reads.

I figured a with the river not completing draws and SB checking it was a large enough pot to try and take it on the river.

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9, A.
4 folds, Hero raises to t90, Button calls t90, SB calls t75, 1 fold.

Flop: (t300) K, T, Q (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t180, Button calls t180, SB calls t180.

Turn: (t840) 3 (3 players)

I don't know man that sounds really aggressive to me early on. I would probably dump A9 this early because it's not suited. And I would never C-bet against two low buy-in players early on with this kinda board.

First hand I would also dump it this early after two raises but it's much more harder to do it and I'm never sure folding is the right play.

AQ hand - with the maniac minraiser and button re-raiser, I probably just flat call and try to see a flop rather than re-raising. Once you get 4-bet and Button calls, you have to call too BUT play very carefully on an A or Q high flop.

A9 hand - preflop raise is fine from the CO, but that flop is very dangerous indeed for a hand that missed - just check/fold with two opps in the hand with you. C-betting this flop is a bad idea IMO. Betting the river is totally pointless too.

I don't think AQo is strong enough to 3-bet PF after the button puts in a (wimpy) reraise. I'd call the button and fold to a 330 raise from the villian and take note to only get involved with him if I can close the betting (or I have a monster I want to reraise).

A9- really don't like the c-bet on that flop with that many people still involved. Go into check/fold mode

On another note relating to getting better, one thing that really changed my game around was having someone/something who I can talk to to hold me accountable for my stupidity/losing. I lost track sometimes even with poker tracker of my losses in sngs. I was doing alright in the $25 nl cash tables and making a little playing the sun million satellites, but my sng game was just lost. Then one day a fella at a table started cracking on me because of my SNG stats on Sharkscope. I looked my name up there and wanted to puke. I was down $150 in profit and at one point I was down to almost -$250. I realize that i could have seen this in PT, but I play at work and at home so my stats get mixed up. From there on I talked to my brother who plays poker everyday about hands/situations and focus'd hard on my play. I also used the free searches on sharkscope to keep track of my stats/profit/etc (I will be using PT when i get my new job in a couple of weeks to keep track instead of SS). That was at the beginning of this month.

I am not posting this to brag about my game (I suck) or to promote a website. I am posting this because when i see how im doing its motivation to improve and do my %110 best to do better the next game. This might not work for you, but its working for me. I started my operation at the beginning of this month with -$150, playing no cash games, just a few Sun Million satellites, and all the sngs i could muster.

Ok so this is the first tournament I have won in a long time. I admit varience helped me quite a bit as I cracked AA 2x and JJ once, but it feels good to be on this end.

Hands 7 and 12 were/are very tricky for me. Hand 12 I think I found a leak- I try to bluff after a c-bet if I feel they are weak into calling stations.

Heads up needs some definate re-tooling I think. Otherwise I dont think I donked it up too badly.

Hey good luck with the operation man

Quote:
I need to get back to basic ABC Poker. Focus is a big thing for me, because I do not have that much free time I don't study or review my HH's as much as I should and I think posting regularly in my own thread will give me more dedication to learning the game.
This is basically the same reason as me for doing my op thread also... I feel already I'm thinking about my plays more whereas before I would make a decision within seconds and it usually turned out a stupid move. It's ok knowing what your leaks are but its a different story fixing them.

Hope this works out for you...

You have near 10xbb so it's a tough call but I would either fold here since MP will most probably go all-in, or raise to 270 to put the MP all-in and maybe the others will leave you alone (Actually I doubt that in low buy-ins)

I felt my bubble play on this one was pretty good. Enough aggression, but picked right spots.

This is a good shove, and gets better if your opps call you looser. Haven't checked SNGPT, but my shove range in this spot is like 77+, AJ+. 66 and AT are probably marginally +EV in this spot.

With his stack he can't flat call the raise. I probably push too.

I don't even know where to start now. I have been playing my game for the last few weeks and I still can't win consistantly.

Personally I feel it is a mix of bad play and a lot of varience.

If there is anyone in the US who would be willing to rail me I would greatly appreciate it.

Current Bankroll: $139

Tough one. I might have tried to check it down on the turn. Not sure you could lay it down though if he put you AI.
Just playing to improve.

Alright, I just got back after a 4 day trip to Summerfest- the largest music festival in America (maybe the world??). It was amazing- I got to hang out with my girlfriend and best friend and listen to great concerts.

But now I am back and ready after a little more downswing to play some more- the break definately helped- or at least I think it did- we'll see.

Alright, i will try to review your play in that one SNG u won. I am a consistent winning player at 10$ sngs on Fulltilt , so hopefully i shall give good advice.
Here goes:
#3=This is good, just ran into AA and got lucky. No way u could have avoided this.
#4=I like this
#5=I like this if he has been REALLY tight, if not fold.
#6=Like it
#7=You need to bet the turn here
#8=Fine
#9=Fine
#10=I dont like the raise here, he has shown he will call. But i like the flop play, he should have folded.
#11=Fine
#12=Like it
#13=Standard
#14=fine
#15=Tricky. Good if he has been raising a lot, if not just raise, he has shown he is loose.
#16, 17, 18, 19=Fine
#20= I dont really like it, but not HORRIBLE. FILTHY turn.
#21,22=Fine
#23=The min raise there would look strong to me, but i guess u have better reads. But even so, i dont think taking a 60-40 is worth doubling him up and getting him back in it. But not HORRIBLE.
#24,25=fine
#26=Same as #23, hes not folding here he has pot odds.
#27=Standard
#28=Good, he has shown down weak K everytime hes min raised.
#29, 30=Standard

You played alright, but i think you should start playing normal sngs. You can be more patient in them and they are more skill less luck. If you switch to normal sngs, i am almost sure that you will win more.

Gl on the tables

The break seemed to help me- I played 5 today and placed 1 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd.

I think I did well with bubble play, especially in these 2 sng's.

Tourney 2 i love how you played hands 12 and 15. In 12 it's difficult to find a balance between slowplaying and value betting and I think you played it perfectly. 15 is just the power of the big stack. Awesome.

No criticisms, well played in both tourneys! Grats on the upswing.

SNG 1:

Hand 10: (65o) If Button limps, is completing with a very loose range profitable here? At first I thought this was an easy fold but even unsuited connectors and gappers could be worth completing here?

Hand 14: (76o) Need to do more of this myself. Was this an ATC situation, figuring you could push off the weak completion?

Hand 15: (87o) What's you feeling/range for completing from the SB on the bubble. Clearly you've been active, was this just a change of pace hand?

Hand 18: (76o) another limp from the SB.

SNG 2:

Hand 10: (87s) I actually like this, pushing mid suited connectors, less likely to be dominated by a big ace. What's your range here?

Hand 12: (22) playing these micro PP's always worries me. I guess I should look at this like a standard defensive raise and you got lucky and hit the flop hard. With position I'm assuming a c-bet and c/f the turn if it's called. How would you play this if he limped from the button and the SB folds? How would you play this if he limped from the button and you were in the SB? I assume you're folding to a standard raise from the button. Your stack is healthy and you're not desperate to flip for stacks so I figure these could be interesting questions.

Nice posts. I like just looking at bubble play. Hope to see more.

Nice raise on hand 15 in SnG2. You have a good draw and if villain had trips he would have checked so by raising you represent a 7. plus his bet is fairly weak so can be easily exploited. very noice...

I am getting 6:1 odds here, and with my healthy stack I can afford to look this up once in a while.

I don't push ATC here, but my range is very wide. 76o is an alright drawing hand, so I will have some potential even if he calls. But generally I do like to raise in the BB once SB completes if folded around and the blinds are high. Earlier rounds, when the blinds are low I generally complete/raise from BB a lot less.

15- #1 CrapBag has been very tight, and I have big stack- room to play a little. I don't like playing against the other big stack (but neither does he), so I am not getting committed to anything small here (nor should he).

Hand 18: (76o) another limp from the SB.
I decided to complete every time because he let me, and I was getting great odds. Once he raised me back I stopped completing with ATC.

My range here is quite wide because both blinds have been playing pretty tight, and neither have a gigantic stack to call wide. I am pushing A7o, A5s, 22, K8o, K8s, Q9o, Q9s, and all suited connectors 67 and up.

Yea, I generally raise from BB when SB completes with anything decent. If he limped from the button I am not sure, If he had a small stack I might push, but I really don't know. Checking seems good, but I probably have the best hand pf, and should take it down there. If button limped and I was SB I would probably complete because I am calling 100 to potentially stack at least one opp, which is more than 15x what I spent to call.

Son of a bitch I am dumb.

First hand I called getting odds and was only going to play for 2 pair or better, but seeing now that I had a gutshot I think I should have bet it.

How do you think this blind defense is? This is the first time it has been folded around.

Hand 1: (J2o) I like your flop play as this board is fairly draw dry. I guess you could worry he's got 3 outs to make a better 2nd pair but I think a 3-bet clearly defines your hand as 2 pair or better from the SB.

Hand 2: (89o) Don't understad why you wouldn't lead this with TP (and a gutshot). But I think you know this

Hand 3: (A2o) WIth 9BB and an UTG limper this Ace is a little too weak for me, even 4-handed- but I need a ton of bubble work so perhaps that's good.

Hand 4: (A3o) I like it. I think the min-raise from the SB is usually a weak ass attempt to steal ("I know I should steal here, but my hand sucks... shit, I'll just min-raise.") You're also at 12BB so those chips are gonna be a nice addition. Seeing how the final pot is 2,390 I assume he called and dominated you?

Yeah, I've been getting caught here more often than usual. Perhaps it's the way low tubros work, but I've been surprised how often people are willing to flip for their stacks with low PP's and decent Kx.

Well I played my first 2 table SnG today and won it. That was cool.

But before that I had a shot at a 4.40 180-man SnG. I really don't know how that went. This was the first hand I played, we've been playing for about 20 minutes already. Did I overvalue AK here? I am partial to a push instead of raising to 400, but oh well.

Ok so after two weeks of this Operation I have stayed pretty stagnant.

I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I want to chalk it up to varience, but I think that is the easy way out. I really want to just post every tournament that I place OTM, but there are too few people who read this and I doubt you will look through them all. Anyway, here are my stats.

Starting Bankroll: $140
Current Bankroll: $170

SnG's played: 28
ROI% 14.2%

I was thinking about dabbling into MTT's, but with my bankroll I would only be able to play the small $1, $2, maybe $3 ones. Is it worth it with so many players in these fields?

Yeah, I think you overvalued AKo, I think 3-betting is just not worth it at this level.

Isn't your ROI fairly strong? I thought 15% was solid. My ROI is like 4% over my 88 SNGs.

I think the rake on these micro MTT's keep them from being worthwhile.

Positive ROI is good ROI.

Also, if you want to do MTT's, I'd recommend the $4,40 180's.
Just be sure to win a SnG, then play in one. You wouldn't be touching your original BR this way ("freeroll" technique).

Yeah play the 180 man SnG's if you want to play an MTT. these are fairly soft. If you are going to play one use your winnings from a sit n go as Jack said.

Heres a link to a strategy guide for playing these.

Man, I hate JJ early, and I'm starting to think it's better to play it more like TT than QQ- especially against action. I want to just fold PF. Flop is busted, good fold IMO.
