Always play your bluffs and real hands similar, especially vs. good thinking players.

Stars 100FO middle/late. Notice it seems like there's room for me to fold. A big mistake imo in this spot is just pushing allin to maximize FE.

See lots of cheap flops early to double up of a donk. Be selective with coldcalling raises preflop though. Rule of thumb for coldcalling raises: only play pocket pairs vs. unknowns, add other (soooted) stuff if you have any kind of read.

I usually raise preflop here btw, but limping is fine too:

Won another mtt tonight (3rd this month). I like playing the stars 100r&a.. Not very deepstacked but enough possibilities to make moves and play creatively. The players tend to be very good though but that also makes them kind of predictable in some spots.

Very interesting hand in the 20K Gtd at FT. We're nearing the bubble, avg stack 18k, he's fifth in chips, I'm the chipleader. I could play every street differently here. What would you do?

He's at FT right now, pretty short.

How often does an A check the turn? How often does someone without an A call a bet on river?

Really the only thing I don't like is pre flop, I have been raising or folding here.

unlucky (and weird?!?!) he quit betting.

This sucks. Bluff was definitely +EV. Only hands he could have to call me with were K9-KT.

I'm confused, then. Aces don't beat us. Lots of decent aces call a river bet b/c they're not as worried about a random 9 after we check turn...

edit: by "aces" obv i don't mean AA but hands like AK/AQ, etc.

you're ignoring my first question, which is the key:

Quote:
How often does an A check the turn?
the answer is almost never, so j-fish assumes opp doesn't have an A.

If he doesn't have an A, he's almost never calling a bet on the river, so the only way we make money is to check and hope he bluffs at it.

Further, if he does have an A and 'value bets' (reasonable given the action), he may call a check raise (especially if he has AK). Villain played his hand really weird.

Thoughts on A9s hand:

Preflop: I'm slightly ahead preflop but stack sizes make it really awkward to reraise. AJ- oop in a reraised pot essentially is a bluff. Other thing to consider is his weird minraise preflop. I'm planning to lead missed flops too (I balance this with leading monsters a lot).

Flop: Leading is best to stack a big Ace but he usually doesn't have anything on this board. Also I'm probably making a lot of a big Ace anyway if he indeed has one.

His bet is ~1.2x pot which is very strange. It also sucks because I can't c/r now and make it seem like I can fold to a push. I call and plan on leading most turns.

Turn: The 2nd 9 locks it but it also freezes up an Ace. If I were calling with middle pair I just made trips.. If I bet any Ace will call once and fold to any substantial river bet. Best move is probably to check and hope he either 2nd barrels with air (not unlikely given donkish flop overbet) or just keeps firing with Ax. If he's any good he will check the turn either way.

River: The hands that call a bet will bet themselves if I check to them (Ax, 9x). A big checkraise can be called by a part of that range too. I'm only losing value by checking to an Ace checking behind (unlikely; he might even try to steal the split pot with the river K) and an unlikely Kx (maybe TT-QQ will reluctantly call a bet too but that's about it). My line is so weak, he also can try a bluff with nothing.

I missed that it was a min raise, I can see this line being good too.

Totally agree it's a bluff if you re raise - I'm hoping he folds all the hands we beat (maybe even AT and certainly low PPs) and shoves any hand we don't so we don't have to try and play a flop. If he calls, you just check fold, or weeeeeeeeeeeeeee a FH!

I am still stunned he checked turn and river. RIGGED

Happy new year everyone!

December was a very good month for me; 160 played, +41K, 157% roi.

My 2007 goal is to play 3000 mtt's and make a profit.. 50% roi would be really really nice.

Anyone in the 1060 at Full Tilt tonight btw?

I agree with this guy (and I think you). Beyond just the 'better player' arguement I think we all tend to want to ignore how bad of a player the blinds turn us all into.

2) Math doesn't matter? Of course it matters, and the math says to FOLD.

What's most interesting about this hand is that if you feel that Below Riskky and Bax are better players than you, there is an argument that you should call. You're not too big of a dog EV wise and if you have the chance to (basically)knock out 3 top players at your table AND give you a huge stack now at a table of inferior players, that could make the call ++Tourney EV.
I LOL'd at Below's post, he sure doesn't play like he types.

wow. at first i thought this was a horrible call. guess that shows why im not playing the big MTTs everyday.

after readying your reasoning and JINXYMONKEY's, i think the call was fine and you had a great chance to win this if you hit your 7.

pre-flop. I like it I call too. I don't like re-raising or folding here. Pre-flop I put this guy on Ace rag, perhaps a pocket pair, most likely ace rag.

flop. I like it, you made your big hand, no reason to go overboard here just call. The fact that he bet with the ace out there makes me even more convinced that its ace rag.

turn. I like to throw a small irresistable bet out there, in case he does have ace rag. Maybe 1/3 to 1/4 of the pot, a hand ace rag has a real problem folding to. If he had a small pocket pair, he is folding now, but you aren't going be extracting any more money from him anyway in this hand, unless he makes a boat on the river. Or maybe if he has a small pocket pair he still doesn't believe you and looks you up.

river. I think this is the perfect card for you, if you go with the read he has ace rag. Now any other ace chops with him, this is what he most likely puts you on. Put a pot sized bet out there and let him think you are trying to buy it with an ace, since its a chop anyway. A pocket pair folds here, unless the player is quite loose.

About that 77 hand...

I can't say I'd (have the balls to) play it the same, but I have to give some love for that play. It's downright gorgeous.

Just making a great play knowing everyone will hate it, knowing how scrutinized these things are, I gotta give you credit... Johnny, you're my hero.

40 in a day?!

How many do you play at once? Do you start them all around the same time so you're not in bubble-world in one tourney, FT in a second one and 3rd level in another? I'm just curious how you keep them straight.
Check out my self-deprecation here!

He has to adhere to the tournament schedule, so he can't really control this. He just plays whenever they start ...

Yeah, I run bad. -5k today

Last hand of the day.. FT 163, itm, last 22.

BB is a donkish Lag so I try to limpraise preflop. That didn't work out but the flop is good.
Only hand I could put him on at the turn was a slowplayed Ten or he floated me with a random Q. Both unlikely obviously.. Thoughts?

A big problem I have with this is it's really easy to put you on a Ten, it's exactly what u are repping, so why is he raising you?

I'm not really repping a Ten here (blind battle).

Btw, Wlleiotl actually won the tournament yesterday for 16K

Pretty sick day.. Won Party 33ra and Stars 109fo and just finished 2nd in the Bodog 109.

3:1 chiplead wasn't enough for the Triple Crown

Also FT'ed both UB 109fo's (both 10th).
