Hi,

I'm posting 2 hands from a freeroll at CD Poker. My concern here is how can we get more value in these hands. Its interesting in freerolls is that you often see players going all in when they have the nuts...and sometimes they're called! My approach is a bit different...I try to bet for value, but sometimes I feel I'm not getting the value I want (or deserve).

Should I just bet strong every street and hope for calls? What would you do in these hands?

HAND 1: I had a multiway pot and the nuts. I did not want to push opponents out of the hand, so...I slowplayed it. However, I think I should have raised the turn to get more value and bet half the pot on the river. I was hoping that someone made a flush on the turn or river...but the action was pretty cold.

No-Limit Hold'em, $30.00 BB (10 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Hero (Button) ($1425)
SB ($2910)
BB ($7580)
UTG ($3915)
UTG+1 ($1855)
UTG+2 ($3146.25)
MP1 ($1425)
MP2 ($698.75)
MP3 ($1425)
CO ($1425)

Preflop: Hero is Button with J, 10
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $30, UTG+2 calls $30, 4 folds, Hero calls $30, 1 fold, BB checks

Flop: ($135) 10, J, J (4 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($135) 5 (4 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 bets $30, UTG+2 calls $30, Hero calls $30, 1 fold

River: ($225) 9 (3 players)
UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero bets $120, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls $120

Total pot: $465

HAND 2: This hand is similar. However, I decided to bet the flop to get more value. I did not bet the turn to simulate an air bet and perhaps extract more value in the river. It worked...he bets on me...I think for a while...and call. I think he would call a higher bet on the river...but I decided to bet about half the pot (and he did). I wonder what would you do differently.

Hand 1 I would just go ahead and bet. In a four-way pot, someone has a worthless draw, Tx, a pair, or a gutshot that they'll float you with. You're in last position so any bet looks bluffy. Bet like $60-$75 and hope someone does something stupid. Because you slowplayed the flop, a raise on the turn is going to set off alarms....Still I think you have to make some sort of raise to $100 or so, and then bet half pot on the river.

Hand 2: Flop bet is sexy, I like it. Having gotten a call I'd just continue to lead the betting. Bet like $200 on the turn. If you get flatted you can go for a check-raise on the river or continue to bet.
Playing big pots at small stakes.

H1: Raise pf...bet on the flop and maybe check turn to induce bluff on river. You pretty much own this board and want someone else to either call you with worse or catch up. Keeping the pot small doesn't help your situation.

H2: Bet more on the flop, turn, and river. You got value on this hand, you just didn't get as much as your probably could have.

why are you raising pf? JT is great in multiway pots when you're in position.
