What kind of strategies do you guys typically use when you play freerolls?

I usually play p-room's freerolls(1800 people) and usually don't have a problem at least getting into the top 100, even when I play badly. It's usually not until that point that people start playing real poker.

The problem I often have is that I'll reach a certain point in chips and then have a really tough time getting above that. I usually hit the bump around 20k and then it's hit or miss. The blinds at that point are enough that I've gotta start making some moves at bluffing at pots.

I don't ever worry about reading the table in the first 45 minutes or so. I'll often take all in chances with group 0 or 1 hands against the really loose players and more often than not it pays off. Also, I just slowplay a lot and let the idiots bluff away. Once I get around 7-10k, I'll slow down and pick my battles more carefully. At that point I start taking a few chances, calling all-ins of the short stacks with hands as low as group 3-4.

Once I get up to around 50k or so, I don't have trouble getting into the money.

So what types of styles do you guys usually play in freerolls?

In the $750 freerolls, I usually just gamble and then bully if I even play. Those things take forever since half the entrants don't even show up for the tourney, and I don't really like spending 4 hours for a top prize of $75.

I do play seriously in the $6000 points freeroll, though, since the top prize there is often more than $1200.

Yeah the last one I joined had a full table with 3 players present, 1 player was really gambling it up and managed to eliminate me and the other player quite early and just sat there raiseing every pot to win the blinds uncontested.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .
