I really liked Naka's DON guide, and I've been playing a few of these lately. I'm posting the following tourney to suggest something I would like to see from Kevster, Naka or others. Why not give a brief sketch of each hand and updates on table conditions, with notes on interesting hands?

Here's my contribution. Stack size updates are given (clockwise starting with UTG+1) when Hero is UTG, and reads/HUD stats are given for hands that are played.

Hero CO

62o Fold
J2o Fold
Q8o Fold
K7o Fold
T8s Fold
A4o Fold

Hero UTG Stack: 1500
9 OPP: 1510, 1430, 1660, 1330, 1480, 1470, 1420, 1690, 1480

94o Fold
K5o Fold
62o Fold
A3o Fold
72o Fold
K2o Fold
J7o Fold
A4o Fold
86o Fold
65s Fold

Hero UTG Stack: 1435
9 OPP: 1215, 1590, 1975, 1265, 1660, 1500, 1230, 1475, 1530

A2o Fold
A7o Fold
43o Fold
65o Fold
J2s Fold

Interest Hand 1: Hero has 66. Limper is a 10/8 nit I have extra HH's on at this point (~80). SB/BB are 39/9 and 28/8 respectively (just this tourney). They have decent sized stacks. Options: AI or fold. I fold. Too much risk this early.

Stacks:
UTG (1,640)
UTG+1 (1,605)
UTG+2 (1,360)
MP1 (1,405)
MP2 (975)
Hero (1,340)
CO (1,070)
BTN (2,080)
SB (2,480)
BB (1,045)

Blinds: 50/100 Ante 10

Pre-Flop: (250, 10 players) Hero is MP3
3 folds, MP1 calls 100, 1 fold, Hero folds, CO goes all-in 1,060, 3 folds, MP1 folds

QTo Fold

Interest Hand 2: Hero MP w/ JJ and 1310 stack, raises to 3x (blinds are 50/100). All fold. Hero's new stack is 1560.

Q9o Fold
T4o Fold

Hero UTG Stack: 1530
9 OPP: 1610, 2820, 2520, 835, 1430, 1395, 800, 995, 815

Table stacks are unfortunate with the the largest stacks to my left in the hands of loose villains from Hand 1. I get 22 UTG and fold. The next hand might not have been smart.

Interest Hand 3: Stack 1520, Hero has AJo in the BB, and 39/9 min-opens UTG+1. I call and donk the flop w/ TPGK, then shut down. I probably wouldn't have called a turn bet...

Stacks:
UTG (795)
UTG+1 (1,390)
UTG+2 (1,355)
MP1 (760)
MP2 (1,480)
MP3 (725)
Hero (2,165)
BTN (1,345)
SB (2,280)
BB (2,705)

Blinds: 75/150 Ante 15

Pre-Flop: (375, 10 players) Hero is CO
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to 300, 4 folds, Hero folds, 3 folds

Hero's stack is 2270.
82o Fold
Q6o Fold
J8s Fold
54o Fold
95o Fold
Q8o Fold
32o Fold

Hero UTG Stack: 2055, Level 200/100 w/ 20 ante
9 OPP: 1255, 1815, 2390, 855, 1450, 1790, 820 , 1915, 635

I'm feeling comfortable because I'm OK with the Push/Fold deal and I have a stack with fold equity, as Naka says. Situation is still dicey with 2 of top 4 stacks (other than mine) to my left with the loosies.

97s Fold
J5o Fold
87s Fold
T5o fold

[Interest Hand 4:[/b] Hero has 44 in CO w/ 1675 in chips. Two loosies are in SB/BB. I don't want to open 2.5x for fear of getting raised off my hand. Options: Push or Fold.

No Limit Holdem Tournament
9 Players
Hand Conversion Powered by weaktight.com
$5.00+$0.20

Stacks:
UTG (1,370)
UTG+1 (1,710)
MP1 (740)
MP2 (1,735)
MP3 (755)
Hero (1,695)
BTN (2,130)
SB (2,555)
BB (2,310)

Blinds: 100/200 Ante 20

Pre-Flop: (480, 9 players) Hero is CO
2 folds, Hero goes all-in 1,675, 3 folds

Final Pot: 2,155

Hero wins 2,155 (net +460)

I thought it was a good time to push, with the chance to steal more than a quarter of my stack. As you can see, there are still 9 players left and the levels are going up. The loosies had shown the ability to fold to AI's by now. And I like shoving small pp's here more than hands like AT since there's a lot less chance of being dominated. Of course, on those rare occasions when you are dominated, you're an ill-fated 4.5 to 1 dog.

Q5o Fold
95s Fold

Interest Hand 5: Hero has KJs, 2090 chips and is MP, opens with an AI shove. SB has 130 and BB has 405 after they post. Both are nitty. The loosies still have me covered but have been playing to see flops. All fold. Hero has 2690 stack.

Interest Hand 6: Very next hand with ATo, Hero shoves AI pre. The SB has only 255 chips left after posting. This is an interesting situation where the other med/big stacks are likely to let you take on the small stack and risk your chips to eliminate him. The BB has 1375 after posting, but has been nitty. All fold.

Situation after two successful shove/steal from MP/UTG+1: Hero has 3265 chips vs. 8 opponents: 2020, 2345, 2860, 960, 1275, 255, 1375, 645. I still don't like the big stacks to my left, but I do like my chip position and the fact that the table doesn't like calling all-ins without premium hands. Time to cool it and look for solid steals.

I fold K4o UTG, and then this:

Interest Hand 7: Hero is BB and a one of the loose players limps, the SB w/ 1k chips completes. The only question is whether to call or raise on the river. I call for two reasons. First, I pretty much have the nuts, but I don't want to take a chance on 64s showing up (and the loose guy hasn't folded, yet). Second, the SB will be left with a crippled stack if I just call and win. If I shove and get beat, I have only 2k chips. Seemed safer to call, though some might argue this is too nitty.

Stacks:
UTG (1,995)
UTG+1 (2,320)
MP1 (2,835)
MP2 (935)
CO (1,250)
BTN (1,225)
SB (1,200)
Hero (3,240)

Blinds: 125/250 Ante 25

Pre-Flop: (575, 8 players) Hero is BB
1 fold, UTG+1 calls 250, 4 folds, SB calls 125, Hero checks

Flop: (950, 3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks

Turn: (950, 3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks

River: (950, 3 players)
SB bets 500, Hero calls 500, UTG+1 folds

Final Pot: 1,950
SB shows three of a kind, Deuces

Hero shows a straight, Ace to Five

Hero wins 1,950 (net +1,175), so stack is now 4415.

Interest Hand 8: The crippled stack moves all-in for 400 with blinds 125/250, I call from the SB and BB calls, too. We collude and check it down. The baby stack wins with A5o. Oh, yeah, I had QTo.

Q4o Fold

Interest Hand 8: Hero has A7s and open shoves all-in, all fold. Level is still 125/250, so steals = 600. No one has less than 1,000 chips, and 8 players (7 opponents are left). Loose players have 1500 and 3,000 in the blinds, but they've folded a ton to my all-ins, so I'm keeping up the pressure until they respond. Especially now that my stack is 4515 which covers the tables by 1,500 chips.

76s Fold

Interest Hand 9: Hero open shoves 86s since SB has < 1k chips after posting. Everyone but him folds, and he loses ATs < 86s. Hero with 5935 chips.

From here, nothing much needs to be said. I have a huge chip lead so I'm playing aggressive poker and calling all-ins whenever I have a decent hand. We're down to 7 players.

KJs UTG, open for 900, all fold.
K4o BB, call all-in for 670 total (370 after my BB). K5 > AKo. Bubble Time.
76o SB, call al-in for 825 (675 after my SB). 76o < KQo. I have 6.7k chips.
65o Fold
KJo all-in pre, all fold.
5 OPP: Stacks are 710, 2100, 1520, 2070, and 1320.

I like these spots. There's no danger of going busto, and I'm just jamming where possible. I think there's a danger here, however, of playing too loose. You don't want to shove the medium stacks off big hands that would have a much better chance of busting out the small stack.

87o Fold
99 (UTG) all-in pre, all fold (8k chips)
73o in BB, all fold to me (8.5k chips)
K4o in SB, one limper with 1k chips left after limp, I call (blinds 200/400) but ditch on 729 flop when he jams.

Interest Hand 10: This was an amazing hand!

Stacks:
UTG (1,220)
UTG+1 (2,460)
CO (570)
Hero (8,010)
SB (790)
BB (1,950)

Blinds: 200/400 Ante 40

Pre-Flop: (840, 6 players) Hero is BTN
2 folds, CO goes all-in 530, Hero calls 530, 1 fold, BB calls 130

Flop: (2,030, 3 players, 1 all-in)
BB goes all-in 1,380, Hero calls 1,380

Turn: (4,790, 3 players, 2 all-in)

River: (4,790, 3 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: 4,790
BB shows a flush, King high

CO shows a full house, Tens full of Queens

Hero shows a flush, Queen high

BB wins 2,760 (net +810)
CO wins 2,030 (net +1,460)

In fact, I was pissed off at the CO not colluding, but he made the smart play, building a nice side pot for a cushion if the small stack sucked out, which he did. I don't think any of the players could do much besides what they did. Just a freakish hand.

J4o Fold
T5s Fold
J8o Fold (player to my left called shorty all-in, T5o > QTo, game over.

I'm interested to know what y'all think of my play, but more interested if some other guys would post interesting tourneys start to finish and discuss their thoughts. The keys to this win were:

1. Staying tight early.
2. Identifying that the larger stacks who played loose early would fold vs. all-ins, then applying pressure.
3. Avoiding trouble.
4. Abusing a group of medium stacks w/ 7 left and on the bubble. Identifying their weak-tight survival mode and profiting.
5. Luck - can't ignore the fact I got some nice cards at just the proper times.

Hand 1 66 - I don't mind the fold here. I think arguments can be made for both pushing and raising to 250 in this spot. I would probably attempt one of these, but looking at the blinds' stats, they will probably call too wide.

Hand 3 AJo - Fold or jam PF. The antes plus the donk raise really make jamming worthwhile here and donks are often folding. As played, it's good to try to get to a showdown cheap.

Hand 4 44 - I agree with the push here. This these guys are pretty passive, I'm not worried about getting pushed off the hand PF. I am worried they will call and we will have a very difficult hand to play post-flop.

Hand 5 KJs - Find the fold button quick!

Hand 6 ATo - This seems a bit wide for a DON. I'd need to see the stack sizes though.

Hand 7 Q4o - Your thought pattern is good; the goal isn't to win as many chips as possible, it's to accumulate chips in as safe as a way as possible. I'm fine with the call.

Hand 8 A7s - This seems ok. From what I can make out, you are in a LP. With a big stack, this seems like a good spot to adopt a less risky strategy and min-raise.

Overall, pretty good and an excellent example for folks wanting or trying to learn to play DONs.

I'll try post a HH with notes a bit later.

Interesting idea Robb. I'd be happy to give this a go but I'm screwed at the moment as I have no internet access at home until the middle of December

For this to work well (or better) for me, I need to see your M on each hand and the stack sizes on each 'interesting' hand.

Anyway, here's my thoughts.....

Hand 2 (66) - I fold but it's marginal as the blinds are starting to creep

Hand 4 (44) - Easy AI because my M and the fact that there are 9 left - other factors aren't really important

Hand 5 (Kjs) & 6 (ATo) - Seem a little loose but, as Naka has said, I'd really need your M and the other stack sizes

Hand 7 (Q4o) - I'm always calling rivers when in any doubt whatsoever

Hand 8 (QTo) & 10 (J9o) - I think there's probably a seperate discussion to be had on collusion when there are 7 or more left. Personally I don't tend to do it and you can never rely on others.

Overall, I get the impression that you're a little more aggressive than me. My default play is uber-conservative until I have to switch to uber-desperate. Being aggressive to maintain/build a stack is a minefield. It's not that I don't make moves, I just make them far less often.
- You're the reason why paradise lost

Ok, I don't think stack sizes matter too much in this section. There isn't really a hand or an opportunity to aggress here.

Both the SB and BB are nits. Big blind is at 8/6 calling 0% in SB over 1K hands. BB is 8/6 calling 7 in BB over 1.3K hands. Pushing here seems like a good opportunity to add chips almost risk-free.

OK, stack sizes before next hand. UTG - 4665, 1620 (Hero), 1120, 1395, 1030, 1410, 1795, 1505. KJo doesn't seem nearly enough to work with here.

Ok, the 22 hand. The FTR HH converter isn't working, so it's HEM special. Villain is 16/11 over 283 hands and probably folding quite rarely given his stack size. Flipping seems bad here.

I'm mindful here that I have two nits directly to my left that seem to be folding to steals. Add to that they are similar stack sizes to mine. I don't want to take unnecessary risk her by pushing PF. Hand plays itself. After this hand I min-raise a few times, but easily cruise into the money.
