Why no comments on this?

Excellent post, esp. for people just starting out SnGs or the some of us who need a fresher upper.

M is a number calculated by your chipstack divided by the cost of one round. So if the blinds are 100/200 with no ante and you have 1500 chips. Your M is 5. This subject is discussed thuroghly in HOH 2. Basically if you don't know about M (or at least some sense of it) you will be a losing player.

The basic answer to that is that you M is the size of your stack in relation to the blinds and antes. A couple of examples are:

You have 1,000 and the blinds are 15/30. Your M is calculated by 1000/45 = just over 22

you have 1,500 chips with 6 people left, blinds at 100/200 and an ante of 25. Now your M is just over 3 ((25*6+300)/1500).

Knowing your M is just part of the equation as how you play hands differs when your M is Over 20, between 10-15 and less than 10.

To get a very good understanding on how "M"'s work go read Harrington on Hold em. He discusses M's in Vol II, but you will want to read Vol I first.

Good Luck

Edit: I just noticed that was your first post so let me be the first to welcome you to FTR's message board.

Folding equity is the value your hand gains from the potential to make your opponent fold. To a large extent, it relies on first-in vigorish (i.e. the added strength of being the first one in the pot), as well as Sklansky's Gap Concent (the gap between how strong a hand you need to make a raise and how strong a hand you need to call a raise).

HOH2 discusses all of this, though I don't know if the Gap Concept is mentioned by name.

TOP talks about the Gap Concept and a ton of other stuff...(I'm currently still making my way through it).

The most important thing in SnG's IMO is to steal the blinds when they start to get bigger.

Play it very tight till the blinds reach 50/100+, then start making big bets and stealing the blinds.

Steal the blinds, don't be scared, most important thing in $11 SnG
