Everyone knows they are supposed do it. This is the first time I've ever done it this dramatically, deciding "OK the next 5-6 hands are going to be tight/passive" only varying with monsters. And then I'd decide "OK a few high-aggresion hands". The only reason I'm posting this is because I've never really thought of this (the on/off hands all put together) as such a strong tool before now.
The reason I did it this way was his 3:1 chip lead when we got heads up. I knew that if I came out aggresive as I normally do HU, he would have a normal strategy for playing aggresive players. He was a fairly good player up until now, so Im sure he had seen both aggressive and passive styles, and knew how to play both. I wanted to develop a weak/passive image from the start, so he would try to bully me around. There were a couple hands, where I check-raised or re-raised him with something very solid; but I think he would chalk that up to the rare occasions that someone gets a monster. He kept right on playing his bully strategy, just like I wanted him to play.
Something I found interesting: After looking over all the numbers, my passively played hands were only down 450 in chips. By passive hands, I mean a hand that could easily have been started by an early or PF raise. My aggressive hands of course were up 10540. Unless you include #80 as passive, because I check-raised the turn to appear weak after he had called on the flop. This would put the passive hands at +5510, and the aggressive at +4780.
I know some people are to lazy/busy to read the whole hand history. Go to hand #80 to see the results of my new-found tool.
The first five hands were trash anyway, so I considered them an investment in my image.

Switch on my aggression. As timid as I had been playing, there is no way he would have raised that much with the Ace. So my PFR, with my very tight image that I had developed, paid off with the opportunity to rep the Ace

All that image work pays off after only 22 hands. Betting the pot with 3rd pair? Not a normal player, only one who thinks he can bully you because the scare cards. 8-) The best part about this hand was when he bet the 3000, I clicked the raise button before I could even read how much he had bet; it was so fast, he had to know he was screwed.

The "all aggression, all day" comment was after i gained the big chip lead. I decided to just go with the momentum and chip stacks; image didnt matter at that point.
This passive image seems to work best once it's down to 2-3 players, because they already want to be aggressive and I just give them permission. Typically, players will try to develop the loose/aggressive image, in order to get action when they bet with good hands. I played my strategy in two SnGs last night, when we got short handed. I got more action from 3 different players with crappy hands, than I have ever gotten with my previous monsters. Such as:

Again, no normal player would play a pocket pair, with two overs on the board, this way unless he thought I was afraid of him. They lose the game to me, and go away thinking "wow that tight dumbass just got really lucky and hit some major hands against me" So much fun
