Another $11 bubble-out + why do I suck?

Results 1 to 10 of 10

    Default Another $11 bubble-out + why do I suck?

Okay, here we go another SNG where I bubbled out in 5th. Here the critical point seems to be hand 8.

Is my thinking way off here? I haven't played with SitNGo Wizard's settings, so I don't know if I'm using it correctly. But as it stands it's giving me check marks an awful lot more than it was, but my results are not improving.
Of course, swingy turbos, but I'm concerned there may be a deeper reason for my terrible results of late.
    Blah blah Op Blah blah

Faith in Jesus Christ is +EV. That is all.

    Finding my game
I'll take a stab here. Take everything I say with a grain of salt and wait for the real players to correct me first. So take this as me playing a private quiz.

Hand 1: I'd raise these preflop from any position. Standard raise of 2-3x the pot to drive out the limpers.

Hand 3: Don't limp with this crap. At this early in the tournament I only call with 22+ KJs+ AT+ in late position and much tighter in early position. I understand you're trying to flow a flush draw, but very often when you do you'll find yourself having the 2nd nuts and losing your whole stack.

9Spade AHeart SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+f+f+f+f+F): I would raise this when folded to me on the SB to steal the blinds.

Hand 6: A bit loose push against a caller, can easily run into slowplayed monsters just like here. Then again with your stack I would have pushed too.

Hand 7: Got lucky here, but don't let that make you think this was a good call, push/fold.

Hand 8: You have the 2nd largest stack but even the small stack can do serious damage to you. I'd fold and wait for a real hand. That QT0 you folded UTG would have been a better option.

Everything else seems fine to me. Stop limping with crap and try to pick your spots. SnGs always have variance and Turbos are often a crapshoot.

Now someone who actually knows something pls correct me. :P

Just looked over the end of the tourney. Looks good to me.

This is the frustrating part of SnG's, which I consider the 2nd half of negative variance. The first half is when villians suck out. The second half is when you make good pushes, but just keep running into better hands.

Both hand 8 and 10 were good pushes, especially 10, however 2 out of 3 pushes you ran into a hand. Thats way off the average.
Just dipping my toes back in.

I took a look at the Sklansky-Chubukov rankings. The SC of T4o is 6.25,thats for a 1/2 game. So really you should only be moving in here when you have ~3BBs or less for it to be +VE. You can get away with pushing a wide range in these spots and still be +EV, but I think SC rankings assume that Villain has you covered. Anything with a SC rating about 14 would be +EV here.
No offence but this is so wrong! Hand 8 is obviously fine, it's a clear ATC push, I have much much more of a problem with:

    6Spade QDiamond SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+F)
    and
    4Spade 8Diamond SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+F)

These are fairly obvious ATC pushes (yes I know you only have 3.5BBs in the last hand but against most party $11 players you still have a lot of fold equity and those chip mean a lot!) When the blinds reach 300/600 there is NO WAY you can afford to pass up spots like this.

    Edit, found another couple:

9Spade AHeart SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+f+f+f+f+F) Thats even worse! How can you fold A9o here? POOOSSSHHHH!

7Heart AClub SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+f+c+f+F) If CO likes to call this is a push, particularly if blinds are 200/400.

    Something's up with the trimmer.

It's frequently labelling BB as SB.
Note how I'm labelled as SB with the 6Q hand, but then next hand push in the SB with T4o because I recognised it as an ATC spot.

The 6Q and I folded to a CO push which trimmer missed, same with 48. I was BB for both and pusher was the same, perhaps the players name has caused a bug in the trimmer...

I agree. As presented they would be

The first I am BB and there's a push from a guy with a similar sized stack.
It's an interesting spot, I tanked a fair bit before folding. SNGWiz seems to agree.

LOL, for the second hand there was a call followed by a push. Caller had AK, pusher had 22. I was well out of that

There's a definite problem with the trimmer reositions. There's UTG and SB twice in a row and no BB or BTN.

Good response tho badger, appreciate it.
    Blah blah Op Blah blah

    I'll respond in bold.

Yeah, it's a toss up. I usually raise... but I don't do anything ALL the time pre-flop

Be interested to hear more thoughts on this. Early on I'll limp behind a number of limpers if I have the button and chances to hit a large and potentially disguised hand.

9Spade AHeart SB (M = 0.00; f+f+f+f+f+f+f+F): I would raise this when folded to me on the SB to steal the blinds.
    Trimmer error. See above

Hand 6: A bit loose push against a caller, can easily run into slowplayed monsters just like here. Then again with your stack I would have pushed too.
There is a significant edge to pushing here with my tourney life at stake. He has a bigger PP fine.
Folding here would be very bad.

Hand 7: Got lucky here, but don't let that make you think this was a good call, push/fold.
    Erm? Are you kidding?
I'm the Big Blind there was no call, I'm not folding to a limp.
Pushing is probably ok, but given the range I put him on, it's a check. As it was I hit a straight, but the arse-end so no time for anything cuter than a push.

Hand 8: You have the 2nd largest stack but even the small stack can do serious damage to you. I'd fold and wait for a real hand. That QT0 you folded UTG would have been a better option.
Ok. You're rejecting a fair solid push which would be right with any two cards and advocating a horrible push in a position where you should really be looking to be very tight.
You're clearly playing with a different playbook to the rest of us!
Do you know much about ICM for instance?

Everything else seems fine to me. Stop limping with crap and try to pick your spots. SnGs always have variance and Turbos are often a crapshoot.

Now someone who actually knows something pls correct me. :P
Your advice is certainly well thought-out. But is fairly unsound on a few key points. Keep any eye on what some of the better regs are saying, I think you are making some of the same mistakes I was a few weeks ago with regard to push/fold.

Watch out for the "I can't push this crap here" when it's position which counts and the "oooh, both face cards, pooooosh" syndrome. I'm only starting to get it right a bit more often now

Going over this again I have to admit everything you say makes sense. Thanks for the comments. I'm aware I have quite big leaks in my game, hopefully I'm starting to get some of them patched up soon.

    Hand 1: (AQs) Raise PF

Hand 3: (24s) Call PF? Don't like this, very weak suited 1-gapper.

(A9o) This was folded to you in the SB... this is a monster at this point, raise it up and take the blinds.

(A7o) Depending on your stack size, I'd push this from the SB with 1 limper

Hand 7: (45o) You're under 5BB. Anyone else consider pushing here over SB's completion.

Hand 8: Yep, this is fine, but ultimately crushed you.

read some other posts, seems like trimmer is messed up so can't really tell if you missed some ATC spots from the button or SB. Overall looked fine, hand 8 was perfect and burned you.
