Still reading, more to come. Just buy it.
It's not another f'n lame wait for AK and big pairs book (and mix in AQ sometimes when you're feeling wild.)

Xianti - what do you think of Theory of Poker? Im getting it in a week and have heard that its a VERY good book.

It's hard work. Gambling. Playing poker. Think about what it's like sitting at a poker table with people whose only goal is to cut your throat, take your money, and leave you out back talking to yourself about what went wrong inside.

Well, I'm only halfway into it and have taken a break from reading it for a while, so I can't give you a thorough review. If you've read any of Sklansky's other books, you'll know what I mean when I say it's packed with valuable and fantastic information, but his writing is very dry and plain matter-of-fact. Not that I think a poker book should be "entertaining," but I personally find it hard to get through too much of it in one sitting. Perhaps it's because there's so much information on every page, you really have to re-read a lot of it to comprehend and absorb. Or maybe it's just me. Anyway, if you think Sklansky's Hold'em for Advanced Players was helpful, Theory of Poker is a must-read!
Now, enough thread hijacking. Get back to Fnord's topic.

Fnord, I can't wait he hear more about this book. Harrington has a reputation as being tight but I saw him make one stone cold bluff on tv that worked really well. It was a bold move and I think his tight reputation helped him pull it off.
I've been waiting for a great NL book to come out and maybe this is the one. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the book.

Im guessing you mean the time when he reraises three quarters of his stack against two raising chip leaders. He only had 6-2 off.
What a heist that was!
Harringtons book is definitely gonna be on my growing list of poker books to buy, might even move it up the list to the top priority if Fnord says its worth it  :

The book is great and it is specifically for NLTH Tourneys. The examples are great. The whole thing is great.
A must for your collection.

Just got finished reading this for the first time. I will need to go back over it a bunch of times to try and grasp alot of the stuff, but it is definitely the best book I've read on nlhe tournaments, by a long shot. I can't wait till volume two comes out.

I agree with Xianti as Im sure many who've read Sklansky do, his books are extremely dry, I liken it to something an organic chem prof would have his class read, It sucks but the book is Jam Packed with information. I like Brunson's style of writing much better because he mixes in a lot of analogies and war stories to keep it light.
Looks like I'll have to check out harringtons book though. Fnord, how does this compare to Tournament for Advanced Players, better, worse, same? Any new or different concepts he covers that arent found in the 'advanced' series. I would enjoy a more in-depth reveiw from you once your done.

I just picked this up at a local Border's a couple of days ago and I'm about halfway through it. It is truly an awesome book.
Once of the nicest things about it is that in the hand problem sections he fully illustrates everything about the hand, including a diagram of the table, your position, the chip counts of all the other players, etc. It's really helping me visualize each of the problems and makes it easier to not just skip to the answer.
I've also read Tournaments for Advanced Players and so far Harrington's book has been much more enjoyable. In terms of pure data, TAP may have the edge, but I feel like I'm getting more out this book.
I forgot to mention something, so I'm editing my post:
Another super cool thing about this book is that Harrington talks about the strategic differences between SnG's, cheap MTT's (<$100 buy-in), not-cheap MTT's (>$100 buy-in), and B&M tournies. I haven't seen anyone break down the strategies into these categories and being I participate in three out of the four types of tournies this is incredibly helpful for me.
