Default Some info on NL at Monte Carlo and the Palms in Vegas

I was in Vegas last weekend and played at the Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo usually has one NL table going with $2-$5 blinds on Friday and Saturday nights ONLY. I was under the impression that the max buy-in was $100, but once I sat down at the table, I learned otherwise. Some newer players were cashing if for considerably more ($200 to $300.) Unfortunately, the players on the whole were better than the ones I'm used to playing with at Commerce so the session wasn't profittable (a loss of around $300,) not to mention I couldn't catch a decent starting hand and one extremely loose player being able to catch whatever cards he needed. Bonus hands are NOT paid on the NL table. All in all, a very educational experience.

I tried to get onto a NL table at the Palms on Sunday night. There were eight players ahead of me. In the meantime, I checked out the tables. They had two tables going with $1-$2 blinds, $100 min buy-in with $400 max buy-in. Some players on the table had over $2500 in chips in front of them with the rest of the players on the tables having no less than $600. Needless to say, I didn't respond when my name was called. After going back to the Monte Carlo and talking to some of the dealers there, they said the Palms is more difficult since they also pay bonusses on the NL tables. So, you have players staying in on some weird hands if they have a chance of catching something.

The buzz in the poker rooms also said the Bellagio usually has a NL table open, but the Bellagio lost power the weekend I was there and was closed.

Still, my vote for the best NL casino poker is at Commerce. In fact, I'll probably hit it tomorrow before I head to the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Thanks for these posts about your casino experiences, Big J.

Yeah. My experience at both the limit and NL tables at Monte Carlo was the same. But then again, it was several months ago, so I didn't know quite as much as I do now about the game.

Commerce keeps sounding better and better every time you write about it. I'm going to have to give it another whirl. Never tried the NL games there.
