    Unhappy Full Tilt Deposit

    Quick question..

I created a new account at Full Tilt tonight and deposited some $$. The deposit went through but security locked my account before I could even log in. They sent me an E-mail requesting digital photos of me holding my drivers license and credit card. Is this normal?

    Hey wheelsrob!

They'll usually want to verify new accounts with something like this, but you'll only have to do it once. The downside is that it takes a few minutes to take the pictures and send it to them, but the upside is that this type of protection makes it so that people can't commit fraud nearly as often which could screw you out of winnings or, in the worst case scenario, have someone steal your identity and run up a bunch of credit card debt.

So what games do you play? What stakes?

It can seem like a pain but it's worth the time. I had to scan documents (telephone bill, immigrant card, etc.) for each site I made an initial cashout from when I played full time here in Mexico but never had to repeat the process. You can snap a few photos and set them aside in a folder for these types of poker site requests going forward to save time.

Do you play cash games, tournaments or a combination of the two?

I never have problem in loading $$ in the account but have to verify when withdrawing money.

That's a valid point of course, and it's a frustration shared by many fellow online poker players. However, I personally don't see the trend of stricter verification guidelines reverting itself regardless of which regional market(s) x-site is operating within. Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines are being passed via legislative efforts in countries around the world, so it's conceivable that poker sites will request more data when signing-up or cashing out in the future.

US players on regulated poker sites are required to submit a Social Security Number and geolocation data before playing a single hand. There are clear "pros" to this process, but it can also dissuade casual players.

Even so, scanning documents or uploading photos and sending them to complete a verification requirement isn't all that time consuming - especially when you've saved the files beforehand and just need to attach them.

    Best of luck 80108.

theres also an argument to be made for getting your id verification done before you deposit. This will avoid a lot of frustration when you try to withdraw in the future and the site has incentive to get the process done so that you start raking, for a withdrawal they have an incentive to drag it out and hope you keep raking whilst you wait.

Hey all.. Sorry it took so long to get back. Thanks for the info. I've got it all sorted out.

I'm a mostly a holdem player. .25-.50 usually. $20 sit n gos, $5 rebuys etc I play a little omaha and stud too, but I find that there's too many people playing at the stakes I can afford that just have such a lousy understanding of the game that its nearly impossible to make any head way. I'm no Negrano or Juwanda, but I'm a fairly methodical player that gets frustrated with consistently bad play. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as prone as anyone at my level to take the odd flyer but not hand after brutal hand. Same goes for the casino down the road. Unless you have a grand to sit down with, you're just wasting your time. They usually have 4 or 5 tables of 1-2 going, but the grinders just wear you down. 15 or 20 times the BB is a common bet and you're lucky if 4 or 5 people fold their hands. Recently I hit a royal flush at a table game (ultimate holdem) which paid 500-1 which was a nice payout. If I would have flopped it I would have won the progressive (almost 100k at the time). Oh well maybe another time! lol

This story reminds me of my very first live poker experience about a decade ago when I sat down at a $2/$5 NLHE table at the Gold Coast in Vegas.

I remember making my typical 3x online raise from Early Position with AQ and gawking at how many players entered the pot preflop. I may have been imagining things, but I could've sworn some guy at the Palms heard there was a 3x preflop raise from EP and made the 300 yard dash so he could get over there & call me down.

As far a sub-optimal play by competitors, it may take some time to adjust but once you get the hang of it you'll be thankful for the expectation in spite of the beats.

You might also want to check out the various cash game strategy articles that spoonitnow (Jesse) has published here at FlopTurnRiver. I've taken some time to read through his Back to Basics Series and wish I had been aware of these resources back when I was getting into cash games.

Sucks about not hitting that progressive Royal Flush jackpot at your local casino but 500-1 is not a bad payday.

Best of luck to you wheelsrob!
