    Default LuckySlevin's Poker Blog

Hi everyone, it's been a while hope everyone is well.

I've decided to spend a fair bit of time playing poker lately after having been on a break for a while, I'm going to play HUSNGs on Broadway Poker I've just created an account from the FTR offer section, so I will be getting 33% rakeback. I'm going to chart my progress here. The goal of this operation is to make $1000 playing HUSNGs. I'm going to start at the $10 level.

Thanks guys! Today I went to an internet cafe at lunchtime and read ISF's HU cash thoughts, although he is talking about cash it's still useful to think about some of the things and try to incorporate into my HUSNG game.

I'm going to pick a couple of points out each session and try to focus on them.

    Today I've picked

-always put people on ranges every street.
It's something I do intuitively sometimes but not consciously enough, I still fall into the trap of deciding if villian has xy hand instead of considering overal range. So i'm going to think about that a bit.

-'the most important thing in HU is focus' - I'm going to concentrate on making sure i'm focussed on every single click. That I have a plan, and don't start 'auto piloting' due to tilt or lack of focus.

Going to try to play 10 games tonight

well on Monday when I last posted I had a bit of a bad session... lost my small profit and another 3 buyins which left me with $2 - as I only deposited about 5 bi's to start, it's friday night and I'm going to have another go today my $2 I had left is now back up to $6 thanks to the rakeback - rakeback is so good. Broadway is a pretty solid deal from ftr 33% rakeback so I'm going to see if I can get this $6 back up to something meaninful playing as low as possible HUSNGs. Will report back on the nights proceedings later tonight...

    Br: $19.43

Played 5 and won 5, for a total profit of $12, one was a $2 HUSNG, and the other four were $3 HUSNG, so br currently $19.43 - think I'll call it a night there and end on a good note, can hear Tom Jones in the background for children in need going to go watch some and eat, as I haven't eaten since lunch time and its 10:40pm

Unfortunately my husng attempt ended a couple of days ago, I had a good run, had the same bankroll for 2 weeks which is good for me, but with only 5bi's to start I guess I always needed a bit of luck!

I've found a new project to invest myself into - I've decided to do one of the zero to hero challenges, along the same lines as Chris Ferguson. Onto day two and progress is slow but it is moving in the right direction! My target for now is to hit 10 GBP's once that milestone is out of the way I should be well underway.

Freeroll pro challenge is moving along nicely about to take another go at a paid up sng ($0.10 + 0.02) with the profits from the free sngs I've been playing.

Here are the results since I started on Friday, two down spikes are the $0.10+$0.02 sngs I entered. So far I've had to rebuild from the giveaway sngs twice, hopefully the 0.10 + 0.02 i'm about to play will work out and i'll break out of the 3-2-1 sngs part of the project!

In other news... I've taken a lego subscription out recently, and having done so randomly stumbled across some chess videos - they've inspired me to start learning how to play, so I'm learning chess now!

Going to play 200nl in the casino today, wish me luck! I'll post how I got on when I get in, hopefully this will help me to stay focussed when I'm in there. Rule 1 - don't drink any alcohol. Rule 2 - think very carefully when raised or bet into. Rule 3 - don't get it in thinking they may be bluffing, wait until I'm in front of fish and then take their money! Rule 4 - remember poker is fun, and enjoy it.

These are the 4 rules hopefully when I reply later I'll have stuck to them!!!

edit: was on my way to the casino when I changed my mind, ended up buying a laptop instead - now I can play online poker without my computer crashing every few hours.

I have about $150 left now and am trying to decide which room to play on, i've decided to focus on cash, may give 50nl a try.

Thanks playtowin, I had a go but it was a risk with only 3 buy ins and unfortunately it didn't work out, I have about $25 left I can deposit and am going to grind that up using some sngs.I'm going to play on bet365 and take advantage of the money added ftr tournaments there.

I've been really inspired lately by the BC motivational thread, especially the link to BoyWonder's thread. Pretty amazing that he got to where he is now from a $50 deposit (it was his second deposit) and a year ago he was having 13k$ months.

The laptop is going like a dream, windows 7 is great I'm really pleased I got it, here is a picture of it

Now I just need to find a way of being able to continually play without expiring my bankrolls!

Heh yeah, maybe. I do see why bankroll management is good, I'm just not rolled for the stakes I want to play, for now I'm going to continue on my freeroll op. i'm also going to put alot of work into studying the game and sticking with one format (for now sngs - mainly because they fit in well with the freeroll challenge).

Despite thinking I have in the past if I'm honest I don't think I can say i've ever truly studied poker. I've had odd series of 2-3 days where ive been really intent and focussed on some video or book or article but i've never gone a couple of weeks with focussed, dedicated, study to really try to plug my weaknesses. Let alone the months and years it would probabally take to be the player I really want to be.

The laptop is a great boon, I can now work with HEM and replay games etc no worries without it slowing down to a crawl etc. So I'm going to really try to use it and also to study, in the truer sense of the word - sngs and see if I can't start to consistently beat one format even if it is ultra micro. The freeroll challenge, apart from keeping me energised and giving me an outlet for my poker passion without incurring expense, also has the nice side effect of starting out at what must be the easiest of the easy, when it comes to sngs, $0.10 + $0.02.

As I spend more time studying and applying what i'm learning I should naturally develop the abilities to move up, this is all simple stuff, and the point of bankroll management I guess, so I'm going to focus on the freeroll challenge for now and just build my skill and bankroll up from that.

You can't play the stakes you wnat to play because of BRM so you play them underrolled? But your willing to play Freerolls as opposed to a lower stake?

That's like saying you can't afford to drive an M3 so you spend a couple thousand on lottery tickets and keep losing. So now your just going to ride a skateboard until you have enough cash saved for another thousand lottery tickets.

That's a cool analogy Jyms and I see what you mean! It must seem a bit wacky when you look at it like that. The fact the freeroll challenge is creating profits from nothing, does give the micro stakes that extra zing for me, to motivate me to play them, when I'm playing with my own money I start taking the game seriously but soon find myself getting so bored because of the tiny stakes that I quickly start to play away from my a game.

The freeroll challenge aspect, the thought that in a couple of years I may be able to say I've created 10k pounds from nothing just gives me the incentive I need to grind when the cash involved is pretty meaningless.

I realise though that what you say is bang on the money from the lottery ticket idea. The worrying thing is that even after all of this time, I didn't realise that I was effectively spinning a coin when I was playing with a couple of buyins. I knew it was a riskier form of poker - but still believed it to be skill based (which it clearly isn't when you're so underolled)

The two key things for me as I try to progress and move forward with my poker I think will come down to proper study, and not reverting to lottery ticket syndrome.

I've been here before I know, but I think the freeroll challenge may just give me that extra motivation in the micros and also the fresh perspective on focussing on a brm plan that I need. It will also mean if I stick to it, win/lose or draw so to speak, the endless string of coins going the wrong way between me and the poker community should be interupted, which has to be a progress of sorts!

been doing a similar thing at vcpoker you can read up on in my blog

Message Board - Keiths Blog onwards.

Also , you are still saying the same sorts of crap you've said all through your numerous ops about wanting to play at higher stakes . What happens is you have a bit of suvccess , think you have made it and jump up and play at stakes you aren't rolled for , go on tilt and blow your roll.

If you had just kept your head down and ground through the stakes you would have been rolled to play the stakes you want to play at by now. With your freeroll challenge , you are doing the same thing you are grinding the really low playing freerolls and as soon as you have the entry fee you are jumping in and blowing your bankroll.

Start and use some table selection principles. Try and find some low field decent payout freerolls if thats the way you want to start.i.e you'll see in my blog I did a paddypower welcome back one and came 3rd for 18$ and i think there were about 150 entered. keep an eye out on stars for any UK regional freerolls , if you've got any fpps on stars look at doing the UK and ireland poker league. PokerStars - UK & Ireland Poker League. If you haven't grind some playy money and get the entrys for the playmoney entry league. If you look at the past leaderboards just taking part every day virtually gaurantees a bonus atthe end of the month , make some cashs on the fpp league and you get prize money for the cash and chance of increased bonus for the month . the month i did that i came 6th and got about 40$ bonus.
