trouble spotting sets

bode is an unknown quantity at this point

everytime i get beat by a set w/ TPTK or 2pair hands and look over the HH, i never see a way to put him on it.

this hand may not be the optimal situation because of his short stack, but id like to hear ideas in general on how you spot sets and slow yourself down/find a fold with good hands.

im including the results. (HH converter isnt working for AP)

Yeah there's no way you're getting away from that hand. Pretty much the most obvious way to spot sets is to see how the guy plays a set and when you see that betting pattern again consider a fold. It's tough, a lot of times you have to go broke against them.

No offense, but that hand is a terrible example because he is so short.
Watch for people in EP to limp/call and then be aggressive with the hand. That is a set's best indicator. A lot of the time I go broke to sets, but that is why our bankrolls are 20-40 buy ins deep.

I agree with Silly string, definitely bad example since he's so short. But the above is your first clue, and then suddenly an EP player playing back at you on an A high flop after you raised PF.

In this case he couldn't play back at you cause he was so short, but often he might lead the flop, check raise flop, or check raise turn. Either way, an EP limper is happy with an A high board against a PF raiser, so you gotta ask yourself why.

I think its harder to spot sets when you raise in EP, and then are called by a pocket pair behind you. OOP sucks.

i realize this hand isnt the best example, but it was the most recent HH i had access too since im at work.

i guess the EP limp/call is a good indicator when they start getting aggressive. I also see the inherent disadvantage to beind OOP when you raise something like AK from EP. I guess thats why we have BR managment.
