You did fine here - but please lead turn for at least 1/2pot, a good player will interpret your weak turn lead as weakness and raise you out of the pot.
Sometimes I fold the flop here, because there are not really any big draws present and you are OOP the rest of the hand, and sometimes I checkcall a reasonable turnbet instead of leading.

KJ missed? Make the turn bet 80-90. Checking the turn and c/c the river is a good line too.

I think I get pushed off if I check the turn.

i like to bet a little more on the turn, too, but i like the river check. nh wp. not really a scary turn so checking to an aggressive opponent might be ok as johnn_fish suggests, but i wouldn't check turn to a passive player. you would lose value from that line. obv the 2nd 8 doesn't want to make you call, but you should be ahead of most other attempts he would make (he can't push, he might bet pot).
In answer to your question... it depends...

Are you ever calling the flop and weak-leading the turn like this with a monster?

Love that line against an aggro player who has no reason as of yet to think I'm not a weak donk type.
