Here's a hand that happened in my first session today. I'm new to the table, only about fifteen hands in. My opponents stats are pretty nitty (12/6 maybe), and I've only seen him show down one hand, 55, where he raised and checked it the whole way and lost.

The converter keeps messing up so here's the HH:

POKERSTARS GAME #14157498096: HOLD'EM NO LIMIT ($0.10/$0.25) - 2007/12/28 - 14:32:51 (ET)
Table 'Tololo' 6-max Seat #3 is the button
Seat 2: Tween111 ($31.55 in chips)
Seat 3: geowal21 ($24.65 in chips)
Seat 5: StinkeSocken ($16 in chips)
Seat 6: JustFun[est] ($33.95 in chips)
StinkeSocken: posts small blind $0.10
JustFun[est]: posts big blind $0.25
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to geowal21 [7s Ks]
Tween111: folds
geowal21: raises $0.75 to $1

With the stakes I'm playing (NL25) it can be argued that this was pretty damn loose preflop, so maybe I should have folded it there.
StinkeSocken: folds
JustFun[est]: calls $0.75
*** FLOP *** [8s Ts Kh]

I hit the flop pretty hard, but lots of stuff beats me right now, so when he leads out my play should be to just call....right?
JustFun[est]: bets $1.25
Well I'm rusty so I raised his bet
geowal21: raises $3 to $4.25
JustFun[est]: raises $28.70 to $32.95 and is all-in

then he pushes......so now I should fold for sure, right?

Awesome, just making sure. As for results:

JustFun[est]: raises $28.70 to $32.95 and is all-in
geowal21: calls $19.40 and is all-in
edika joins the table at seat #4
*** TURN *** [8s Ts Kh] [Qh]
*** RIVER *** [8s Ts Kh Qh] [Ah]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
JustFun[est]: shows [Js 9s] (a straight, Ten to Ace)
geowal21: mucks hand
JustFun[est] collected $47.40 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $49.40 | Rake $2
Board [8s Ts Kh Qh Ah]
Seat 2: Tween111 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 3: geowal21 (button) mucked [7s Ks]
Seat 5: StinkeSocken (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 6: JustFun[est] (big blind) showed [Js 9s] and won ($47.40) with a straight, Ten to Ace

I was kicking myself for making this call at first, I'm glad to know it was the right play. It's been soooooo long since I've played poker so hands like this are going to throw me off for a little while...

yea just open up pokerstove and work through some of these spots to realize how much equity you have in the pot.

One final thing to remember: you don't always have to have the best hand when all the money goes in.

I'm confused, he did raise preflop. So what are you guys all talking about?

I think you missed this part of my original post.

you're so silly Galapogos

also, is it "gala-pogos" (like many pogo sticks, or "ga-lap-a-gose" (like she's so gross)? always wondered that.

Pretty sure it's supposed to be "pogos". I took it from a song that I thought had a cool name when I was younger and have just kept it all this time for the sake of consistancy. Everyone thinks I just mispelled the island name though, I really didn't think this one through.

ha, I used to be big into wrestling so I'd go to wrestling forums, I'm talking like twelve or thirteen years ago when the internet was still pretty young. anyway, my favorite wrestler was The Ultimate Warrior growing up, and I've kept Ultimate George as my screen name ever since. kinda crazy.
