    Default Slowplaying

I am mostly on one gear, it seems like whenever I slowplay shorthanded, my opponent hits on the river. But when I go hyper-agressive, doesn't it seem too obvious sometime? Do you guys ever slowplay? like a rainbow flop tptk? I know for one I can't slowplay full house, people usually fold to my bet on river cuz they think I trap.

call down some marginal hands then u can slow play to good effect.

There are merits to slow-playing both on dry and draw-heavy boards. I think the decision as to whether or not you should depends more on your opponent than the nature of the community cards.

Slowplaying can happen in two ways. 1) you check OOP with teh nutz with the intention of c/r to bloat the pot. 2) c/c the flop with the intention of underrepping your hand to get value from worse hands. 2) sucks 95% of the time because usually our opponents dont have a good enough hand to go broke on. The only times I use 2 is when it's obvious that my opponent will go broke. e.g. I have the bottom full on an AAx board and he bets the flop OOP or when checked to.
My sig is too much for you to handle.

A few cases where I feel safe slowplaying:

-top set on a rainbow board
    -flopped boat / quads
    -flopped nut flush

These situations don't come up very often, so I don't feel comfortable slowplaying very often. If your opponent's range consists of hands that give him at most like 2 or 3 outs against your hand, & he's aggressive and hates calling, then slowplaying is probably better.

This probably depends on the stakes you are playing at too.

At the micro levels I've been successful RARELY slowplaying (at least up to 25nl, and I don't think this is changing much at 50nl though I haven't played much there yet). Only when I have a very strong hand on a flop that couldn't have helped your villain (unless he's the type to always put you on a bluff), or one that's just too damn scary for anyone to call without a monster of their own. I'm sure there have been plenty of times where I could have made

People will pay you off with weaker made hands and they will pay too much for draws. Then when they see you playing fast with hands your cbets will get more respect (assuming they aren't the fishiest of the fish).

Stop with the fancy play and just bet.

Does it ever occur to you, that all your posts are you having trouble when you try to get fancy at microstakes?
Just dipping my toes back in.

Bet it like u would c-bet. Hope they have something or want to try to take it away.

Slowplaying without a good reason has many drawbacks:
-failing to get more money into the pot (if he doesnt have anything, it'll be hard to get much out of villain, if he does, you may give him extra outs and fail to create a big pot)
-giving hands you have dominated a free card (even on an apparently drawless board there may be gutshots, 2outers, 1outers...)
-being transparent if not balanced well (c-betting when missed, sloplaying monsters is an easy to recognise pattern)

    good reasons to sloplay:

-villain is aggro and habitual bluffer
-hand is so strong (ie 4of a kind, str8 flush) that givin free cards will not cost us
-on a drawy board, villain may make a powerful 2nd best hand (ie flopped FH on drawy flushy board). Still, in this case, many times its best to bet a small amount, as villain will likely pay with good odds to draw, since he probably wont realize he is drawing dead.

Most of the time, villain will fold if he doesnt have anything and you bet, but thats ok, if he didnt have anything, it was gonna be hard to get value. You want to bet so that the times villain has something decent, you manage to build a big pot. Those are the important times.

DO NOT mistake sloplaying with checking a street for pot control/inducing bluffs, when you have a medium hand like TPTK

I actually read a great article in ALL IN Magazine, March 2008 by Josh Arieh explaining why slow playing isn't nearly effective as you may think it is. You should check it out.

in raised pots you should pretty much never slowplay a full house or flopped nut flush
